Allthing to conveneWith the growing calls for Midgard to look abroad for investment the Allthing will be Convened at Allthingvy to discuss the possibilities of breaking with centuries of near isolation from most of europe. The question of what do we have to offer the wider european community has been asked as has its twin: what does europe have to offer us?It is the editors opinion that our economy which is made up largely of fish, wool and some small mining operations could benefit from the up to the minute financial services and telecommunications of some european economies especially if they were prepared to invest in Midgard.And herein lies the benefit to europe, currently we do not have the means to survey and extract our lands and waters but some noted geologists have said the chances of discovering gas and oil most likely offshore are relatively high. During the Opening His Majesty was presented with a ninth century Danish sword, the star find when archeologists unearthedwhat they now believe to be the ruins of the first great hall in Alsvik, the sword has been preserved in its original state and sealed in a stainless stee lbox which has been inscribed “Born from a legend of steel, united by a bond of blood” the Althing Law-speaker Eric Thorvaldsson commented later that it had been a great honor to meet the King and Queen and that relations between Midgard and Danmark were good and would continue to improve over time.
Danish being a second language to many Midish people, it is hopes that with the opening of a series of cultural and heritage centers around Midgard that many Danes would choose to holiday here inyears to come.

Vollveigskoll will have its aging port updated
Sources close to senior Anthingvy delegates today confirmed that a key priority on the agenda was to upgrade Vollveigskoll's port facilties which have recently come under criticism for its poor safety record and lack of facilities.
As Midgard's primary port the grey concrete warehouses and rusting freight containers of Njordgard do not give the impression of a progressive country looking forward to its future.
Plans to build a five star hotel next too new world class conference faciltieshave been mapped out with some saying that the cost will be too great, others think the plans do not go far enough and Alena Martens a spokeswoman for theVollveigskoll chamber of commerce was keen to state:
"The Njordgard development project could provide much needed jobs for thousands ofcitizens of Vollveigskoll for decades too come, we must take this opertunity tograsp with both hands the bright future Midgard wants and needs"
One problem facing developers is the current location of a nine hundred year old alter house to the god Njord which has been given the status of being a building of cultural and historical significance, how to include it within plans for a modern development are hotly contested by some as disrespectful.

Götarike firmly protests the establishment of a Danish Naval Base in the far north. We feel that this development only further militarizes the North and will only serve to the precursor of further wars in our region. It is one thing if a Northern Nation provides protection to Northern countries; however, the Danes are strictly speaking a Germanic regional nation. This is clearly an advance on what might be traditionally considered Götarikes region to police and patrol. We urge your government to reconsider the Naval Base, and in return Götarike shall guarantee Midgard's independence and provide with the establishment of first response radar facilities to be jointly operated by our nations.

We are disappointed by the comments regarding the establishment of the Kongelige Danske Marine's Midgaards Flåde in Midgaard. It the sovereign right of Midgaard to determine its own future, which we pay great attention to.
Furthermore, we do not envisage any altercation between Danmark and Götarike though we reject the hegemonic stance of Götarike.
With respect to the historic ties between Danmark and Midgaard, we urge more care and attention by the Geatish foreign office on such matters and are rather disappointed a fellow Scanian nations does not pay more attention to pan-Scanian heritage. Our nations have close ethnic links which have bound our two nations together for a millennium, a reality pre-dating most other nations in Europe. These close bonds and blood ties continue to be strong ultimately symbolised by the fact that at the pinnacle our mutual head of state is HM King Hans Gustav III of Danmark and Midgaard, known to Midgaardians as Hannes Gústaf III. Military matters are in the natural arena of this grand narrative of our collective history.

We certainly hope that the Danish people do not feel that they have been singled out here. The fact of the matter remains that if any non-Northern nation were establishing a military base in our region, we'd be equally displeased. That said, we feel that Danish Government would be equally displeased if Götarike we to suddenly establish a military base near Solaren, for example.
The fact of the matter is that the establishment of a new naval base directly conflicts with Götarikes traditional region and sphere of influence. Common heritage or not, the Danes have never come to the aid of Götarikes military concerns or conflicts. We do not expect this to be a fact that will change in the near future either, as our most recent plight went entirely ignored by our so-called brethren. As a result, we must protest the establishment of this Naval Base as it does nothing other than set the stage for potential conflict between your nation and others in our region, which is a direct concern to our encouragement of pan-Nordic peace or worse, between your nation and our own.
As such, we will continue to petition the Government of Midgard to suspend its plans, else suffer negative consequences in the relations between our nations.

Honestly, this was not a problem as I envisioned Midgard to be a bit more of a colonial like venture in relation to you (ie. IRL Iceland, Greenland). Upon their map application in the far north to my east, it suddenly became a problem that also makes less sense historically as they are settled in prime native Scandinavian territory. So this will continue to become a thorn in our relations as it places your nation in direct challenge of my nation's region, so to speak. If you want this sort of conflict, I have no problem, but just so that you know.

Thank you for your correspondence which was forwarded to me by my official office.
I certainly understand the misgivings and sensitivities over the recent announcement by my country to establish a naval base in Midgaard and I have carefully noted the points you have raised.
Needless to say, I reiterate my original points that I do not envisage issues between our two nations and that the invitation to establish a base is entirely in keeping with the ancient traditions and close ties my country and Midgaard have which is a reality that I feel has to be factored into the equation, as does the right of independent sovereign nations to determine their own affairs in a peaceful manner free from pressure. I would therefore request that these are borne into consideration and we would appreciate an amelioration of your initial position.
Regarding the issue you highlighted in your correspondence to me on a lack of Danish interest in assisting your fellow countrymen, I feel compelled to highlight a few points. I am sure that you are aware that for a several decades my country operated isolationist foreign policies and that only in comparatively recent times has my country taken a more active international role. Furthermore, I am of the belief that my country may be able to take a more positive role in regards to its relations with Götarike but I also feel that this is a two-way dialogue. I am moved to note that in recent times, I do not feel that Götarike has entirely been forthcoming in its assistance to Danes who, several years ago, were afflicted by their own dilemmas of terrorism and economic reconstruction. Despite all this, I do not believe a 'throwing stones in glass houses' foreign policy position is helpful to either of our nations.
In the spirit of pan-Scanian cooperation, I invite you to work alongside my own country to find agreeable areas which we can work together on on an equal basis and in a mode of mutual respect as I believe there is scope for this. It is my preference to see greater cooperation and bringing together of Scanians which, lamentably, I feel has been sadly lacking in recent times, rather than continual divisions and the fostering of ill-will.

Althing disbands leaving behind it the "Caretaker" Committee Government with the shock appointment of Baldvin Streykar as Caretaker/Steward
The Althing has officially disbanded today for another two year recess, but it has left behind it the office of the Verndari (or Protector). The Office of the State Protector will have authority over several Committee's which will help to run the country on a day to day basis while the Althing is disbanded. Perhaps the greatest shock was the Law-Speaker Eric Thorvaldsson's failure to convince enough members of the Althing that he was the best man for the job, the post instead goes to Baldvin Streykar the former leader of the Midish mining workers union.
Mr Streykar whom won the majority vote at 65% has promised to run the country to the best principles of the people of Midgard and has promised to uphold Midish Sovereignty against foreigners whom would seek to subjugate us.
Mt Streykar has also welcomed the prospect of a visit from a Cantigian cultural delegation Mr Streykar said the Cantiginians would be most welcome to tour Midgard and enjoy famous Norsk hospitality at Alsvik whenever they chose to arive here. He also said he would like a chance to talk to them regarding a future relationship between the oceanic realms and the people of Midgard.

As is no doubt known by His Excellency, our two countries share over 1000 years' worth of ties and links and the Kingdom of the Danes will work alongside our brothers and cousins.
The Kingdom is fully respectful of the direction and independence shown by the governing authorities of Midgaard and we are impressed by the show of leadership displayed by the newly inaugurated State Protector and wish to declare that we will do all that is possible to not only work alongside our kin, but also to play a constructive and wholesale defence of our brothers in Midgaard.
Danmark will remain ever faithful and will remain eternally and steadfastly loyal in its firm support.

Fisheries dispute at the heart if the growing "Alsvik socialist movement"
A recent dispute between big business and self employed fishermen has broken out this week in Njordgard, and has apparently been at the root of a recent graffiti campaign on some of Alsvik's most notable structures and monuments, the Crimson banner and many other socialist images were daubed over the statue of General Allfin Grimmsson on wednesday night.
The dispute between construction companies in Njordgard and the local fisheman whose land they are said to be using has made for an uncomfortable atmosphere over the last few weeks and when the city elders took the decision to stand by the construction companies some of the fishermen started shouting socialist slogans in Vollveigskoll city hall.
Baldvin Streykar has appealed for an end to the graffiti campaign and has promised to meet with the leaders of the fishing community at Njordgard to see if something can be worked out,
