In recognition of the friendship to the Sylvanian nation in these times of strife and by extension to the alliance nations, the Ambrosian people's and government's commitment to democratic values and the willingness to defend them, the Democratic Defense Initiative hereby extends invitation to the Westernesse States of Ambrosia to join the alliance and strengthen the forces of true democracy. On this 2nd day of June, 2020 President Robert Hirschfeld has signed off on a congressional motion to accept and enter the Democratic Defense Initiative in accordance with treaty accession laws. Having observed over the course of the last year as a "Friend of Freedom", Ambrosia has observed and verified that the DDI shares the same democratic values, virtues, and a desire to proactively defend the same. We share a common veneration of the individual spirit, shining bright as an example for others in a world shrouded by oppressive darkness. As nations of great individuals we all bear a natural obligation to share this profound knowledge, strength, and energy with each other and the wider world.

In short order we intend to invite ambassadors and staff from Democratic Initiative partner nations to participate soon in an Amity Gala in Saint Theosburg to celebrate the bounty our perpetual liberty. Great opportunities avail us as this alliance advents intellectual, economic, and indeed shared defense boons. We recommend a careful crawl, walk run phased entry for Ambrosia as an ally to the Democratic Defense Initiative:

Crawl: Introductions and the establishment of contacts and strategies.​

Walk: Implementation of experimental economic and military exchange.​

Run: Ongoing economic deals and compatible defensive military exercises.​

President Hirschfeld has appointed me, Dorothy Heidelberg, as the first Ambrosian Secretary to the Democratic Defense Initiative. The State Department has approved funds for me to travel to Touzen, Sylvania, and Pohjanmaa to meet with available and relevant partners directly in the days and weeks ahead.

As Sylvania's appointed representative to the alliance it is my duty to inform you of the official accession of the W.S.A. in accordance with the Treaty of Charleroi (April 4, 1986). Attached is the document for your representative to sign. No conditions have been added beyond what is already stated in the treaty already agreed upon. As already mentioned by your representative we believe your "crawl, walk, run" will of course be the best method as we understand integration cannot be expected to be instantaneous. Nonetheless, welcome to the alliance.

Protocol to the Democratic Defense Initiative
on the Accession of the Westernesse States of Ambrosia

The Parties to the Democratic Defense Initiative, signed at Charleroi on April 4, 1986,

Being satisfied that the security of the DDI membership and the liberty and freedom of the individual will be enhanced by the accession of the Westernesse States of Ambrosia to that Treaty,

Agree as follows:

Article 1
Upon the entry into force of this Protocol, the Secretary General of the Democratic Defense Initiative shall, on behalf of all the Parties, communicate to the Government of the Westernesse States of Ambrosia an invitation to accede to the Democratic Defense Initiative. In accordance with Article 9 of the Treaty, the Westernesse States of Ambrosia shall become a Party on the date when it deposits its instrument of accession with the Headquarters of the Democratic Defense Initiative in Charleroi (Karlstad / Kaarlekungingas / シャルルロワ).

Article 2
The present Protocol shall enter into force when each of the Parties to the Democratic Defense Initiative has notified the Headquarters of the Democratic Defense Initiative of its acceptance thereof. The Secretary General of the Democratic Defense Initiative shall inform all the Parties to the Democratic Defense Initiative of the date of receipt of each such notification and of the date of the entry into force of the present Protocol.

Article 3
The present Protocol, of which the Sylvanian Eserian, Fennic, Touzenese, Austwegian, and Metsamaan texts are equally authentic, shall be deposited in the archives of the Government of the Continental Republic of Sylvania. Duly certified copies thereof shall be transmitted by that Government to the Governments of all the Parties to the Democratic Defensive Initiative.

In witness whereof, the undersigned plenipotentiaries have signed the present Protocol. Signed at Charleroi on the 5th day of June 2020.
