Constantine Proposes Nation-Wide Referendum!

Today in the Aresurai capital, our leader, Joseph Constantine, made a speech to the Congress unveiling a new plan in an effort to finally reunite our divided nation and bring peace and prosperity to all Aresurai. The plan is a referendum, one to be held both in free Congress Aresura*, and Touzen-Occupied Saurva**, where the people, not its leaders nor foreign powers, would decide the ultimate future of our beautiful lands. This comes after months of no progress by our diplomats, forced to negotiate with the meddling eastern power of Touzen, in an attempt to end the illegal division of Aresura.

"Despite calling themselves champions of democracy," Constantine said in his speech, "The Touzen occupiers continue to ignore time and time again the calls by the Aresurai people, the ones they proclaim to protect, to leave our lands and let us settle our differences in a peaceful, civilized manner. They prop up a relic that serves the interests of the people no longer, thereby relinquishing its right to call itself a democracy and, theoretically, the support of the so-called democratic champions. With all that in mind, I come to you today to prove, once again, that we are the ones with the interests of the people in mind, not these foreigners who trespass on our lands and meddle in our issues."

Constantine then went on to describe his draft plan of the referendum in question. "The referendum, I propose, will have a very simple question, which nonetheless will be perhaps the most important question all Aresura have answered in their lives. 'Should divided Aresura be reunited?' It will be further explained that, should a 2/3 majority of people on the Aresurai island vote 'Yes', both governments in Congress Aresura and Touzen-Occupied Saurva declare themselves transitional governments, and elections, a date to be decided upon when the occupiers are compelled to stand by their principles, to be held across the island, with the intention of electing a single, united, and democratic government, which will then oversee the immediate withdrawal of all foreign military presence on this island, be it Touzen or any other nation."

After a standing ovation that lasted five minutes, Constantine continued, "Obviously, this is a draft proposal. I leave it up to you, the representatives of the people, to decide on its wording and to continue to perfect its purpose. It must then be sent to Saurva, where the occupiers must decide whether they will stand by their principles, or continue to show themselves as the hypocrites they are. And I say to them now: although I am willing to alter some details in the referendum, I will not, under any circumstances, compromise the main purpose and goal, to see, once more, a free, united, and democratic Aresura!"

Another standing ovation followed at the end of this speech, and the Congress is expected to begin debate on the referendum by tomorrow at the latest. We will keep you updated as more news follows this historic occasion.

OOC:
*Refers to Reformist Aresura, which I shall change my username to and request a change in the map later on.

**Refers to the Republic of Aresura, but Reformist, or Congress Aresura, refuses to recognize that name as legitimate, and refers to the "nation" as Touzen-Occupied Saurva.
