Vestrland Closes Borders​

Today Vestrland closed it's borders in what is being analyzed as a potential show of instability in the country. In an even more bizzare turn of events the borders were re-opened only hours later, causing even further speculation as to the closure of the monarchy's borders. "As of now, the administration is unwilling to make any speculative efforts as to the stability or political environment of Vestrland." Press Secretary Jonathan Anton stated in a press conference, "The Foreign Affairs Department however recommends that all Asylan citizens suspend their travel plans to Vestrland pending the resolution of any pressing political issues in the country." On top of this, the Asylan government has contracted the use of two ocean liners to retrieve any Asylan citizens that wish to leave Vestrland for the time being. "We assure Asylan, that all Asylan citizens will be protected to the best of this administration's ability. The 1st Fleet is ready to move in case the need for humanitarian assistance is required, as well as to evacuate any an all citizens of Asylan and its allies." Anton concluded.

Citizens Return Home/Imperial Marriage​

After the sudden closure of Vestrland's borders, at least a thousand Asylan citizens have returned home citing what many considered to be a "uncertain situation" in the country. The Asylan government has not yet issured any new statements over the matter, however Eitan Press Secretary Cary Wentworth has gone on record stating that the government is closely monitoring the situation abroad. In other news, the arms company Oxman has had it's doors forced shut after Asylan authorities discovered that it had sent an illegal shipment of arms from Asylan territory to the volatile South Himyar region. Asked if the recent increase in violence in the region had anything to do with the shipment, Arms Secretary Henri Werfhorst stated, "It was very likely this recent arms shipment was not the first from Oxman. There could have been thousands of weapons smuggled to factions in the region before Oxman had been caught. The Asylan government has issued an official apology for this incident and wishes to assure the world that our justice system will seek to punish those responsible for it." Vice President Diane Avdeeva will be attending the wedding of Emperor Demetrius XV of Valkany and Princess Ingeborg of Vestrland. She will be taken on the cruiser ANS Highland and has expressed her wish to solidify relations with both Valkany and Vestrland.

The Problem of the Eastern Cape​

President Henry Hollande gave a Q&A session earlier today outside of the government Capitol building due to the recent heavy involvement of the Republic in the calamity of the Eastern Cape. President Hollande So I want to address some of the concerns for progress we are dealing with in the country of the Eastern Cape. We've had a few developments over the past few days which have change the landscape of the situation. I know many citizens are concerned that our aid budget is going to waste but we believe we have found a plan to deal with these problems. As of last night the city of Augustaborg declared independence from the Eastern Cape and this has presented us with a unique opportunity. As a result our aid mission will focus on the reconstruction and development of the new Democratic Republic of Augustaborg. We think that developing a strong set of allies in Himyar can be in the best interests of Asylan and her new allies in the Triparte Agreement. As of now we are in talks regarding Augustaborg and their continued existence as either an independent nation or something else. In other news the Department of Foreign Affairs has approached the Etnaean kingdom with a request for further economic and military ties. However when asked the Department declined to give a statement on what the details of the proposed treaty were and status of the treaty as a whole. The involvement of Asylan in Himyar has been a hot topic since the establishment of the naval base in Erdenshire and the settlement of former Eastern Cape natives to the site. While there has been little debate in the inclusion of the natives to become Asylan citizens most of the debate revolves around the issue with Asylan foreign policy and what the President and his administration's goals are. Many believe that Asylan wishes to expand and create an economic dominance over the southern Himyar region which has undergone massive upheavals recently. Several analysts believe a solid Etnaean/Asylan alliance could lead to greater stability in the region.

The secessionist attempts of a political minority will not be recognised by Cathiopia, and we will do our utmost to ensure the territorial integrity of the Eastern Cape. We warn Asylan against any further dialogue with the separatists in Augustaborg.

However, The Republic of Asylan firmly believes that each group of people in a nation must be able to decide for themselves in a situation such as this. There are many reasons why countries such as all of our own are not all together in one large state. Forcing ethnic groups and those who do not wish to live in the same national confines has only wrought destruction and civil instability in the past, and it is this that Asylan is seeking to avoid. We ask that every nation, not just the small selective panel of nations present in ICD come together as a whole to help solve the fate of Augustaborg and its people. We believe that the Augustaborg's disbandment of its military forces and its peaceful message is indicative of its good faith. Do not let our petty differences condemn these people to an endless cycle of violence.

The Eastern Cape is a failure of a colony which united peoples who did not wish to be so under the wicked Danish sword of authoritarianism and genocide. We respect the peoples of Augustaborg and their God-given right to forge their own path free from the old Imperialist ways of Danmark and also free of the Neo-Imperialism of the RDTO and the ''Commission of Decolonisation'' which, in great hypocrisy, is trying with all it's might to maintain it's personal rule and hegemony over a colony, and an abject refusal to allow that colony to cease existence and for it's people to decide it's own path. The Commission of ''Decolonisation'' should follow it's own dogma and allow the Eastern Cape to decide it's own fate, free from the foreign rule of other nations. The Eastern Cape was, is, and always shall be, a failed project. And the very idea of the colony left to the annals of history and the native peoples to carve out their own future.

The information which his Excellency, the Minister Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Asylan to Leidschendam, has given me of the pacific disposition that prevails in the councils of the Asylan Republic, and of the basis upon which democracy in the Eastern Cape may be discussed, has induced me to lay a part of the declaration of the States-General to the Crowned Provinces, to your government.

The States-General has by profound majority declared to the Crowned Government its sincere desire to observe the Crowned Provinces embrace the first opportunity of establishing formal recognition of the Democratic Republic of Augustaborg, such as may be compatible with the interests and permanent security of the people of Augustaborg and of our friends and allies; the determination of the Crowned Provinces is uniformly pacific; but that the Crowned Provinces also hopes to observe that there should be a safe and a lasting recognition, a certain political position, which from its very stability would be the source of restraint to the other powers of Europe engaged in the Eastern Cape.

With regard to the stipulations of the treaty of the Tripartite Agreement, which have been proposed as the basis of the negotiation of recognition by other members permitting, it shall be observed here also, that the Crowned Government of Lisse considers the security obligations of the Crowned Provinces to the Tripartite Agreement most seriously

You must be registered for see links Ministry of Foreign Affairs​ Unless the constitution of Eastern Cape has specified a legal outline for both municipal and provincial governments to secede from the Eastern Cape federal government, the Belkan Commonwealth reserves its recognition of Augustaborg as a sovereign state. As it appears thus far, the basis of seceding has been only been de facto that residents of the municipality demand secession and independence. However the manner in which Augustaborg has declared its independence outside any legal framework (e.g. referendum) is illegal to the Eastern Cape constitution. We are however willing to overlook this fact considering the situation in Eastern Cape has been a disaster and a failed project. The sovereignty of Eastern Cape was granted by its colonizers, nationhood as a united country without colonial rule may be in fact be impractical due to Eastern Cape's ethnic composition and tribal differences. In addition, there are those who are unwilling to be part of the new nation and are left without a voice. A disunited country will only bring more trouble that will result in further casualties. The Belkan Commonwealth recommends that the people of Augustaborg to declare its independence through a referendum, even if the constitution never outlined succession, to peacefully secede from Eastern Cape. This is a recommendation for all other municipal and provincial governments within the country that desire its independence. Only then, barring any change in political circumstance, will the Belkan Commonwealth recognize its independence. The Belkan Commonwealth does not officially endorse the dissolution of the Eastern Cape. However we fail to see the benefits of a united Eastern Cape if its people refuse to be under its banners. Augustaborg Consensus​

Today the National Council has come to the decision that Augustaborg will be recognized fully as a nation and that its defense will be the initial responsibility of Asylan. President Hollande congratulated the Council on coming to the decision and continued to address the nation. The National Council today has made the decision that Augustaborg will be protected in its infancy and assisted by our great nation. I will further outline the synopsis on the Council decision. As of today the Republic of Asylan recognized the Democratic Republic of Augustaborg as its own soveriegn nation. While the Augustaborgians split from the country without the consent of its government or the allowance from a constitutional edict, we recognize that the Eastern Cape was formed and its constitution written by a group of only five nations that constitute the ICD. With this in mind we do believe the creating of a new nation for the unique people housed within is acceptable. I thank other nations who have stepped up and given their support for Augustaborg. As of his moment the Asylan military hass been pledged to defend the new nation and help foster its growth. On top of this the National Council also approved the raising of the Army limit from twenty thousand to thirty thousand, allowing thousands of Army applicants to reapply and try again for admittance into the military. The military has become a much sought after employer due to the high pay and benefits provided to the people serving in it. On top of this the military has been considered one of the top training institutions for entrance into the job market and a quick segway into higher education.

offers this advice to our good friends of the Asylan Republic, that the Asylan people of power in the Eastern Cape strongly encourage those Natives attempting to break away from the defunct Eastern Cape to hold elections as soon as is reasonable, and to plan a referendum in the long term.

Asylan has the backing of the Tripartite and thus, Ivernia, but it must promote thee democratic way in Augustaborg as soon as it can. It must legitamise the nation to the world, and so the RDTO and their Red Propaganda Machine will splutter and churl as it meekly attempts to twist and rebut the iron-clad democratic voice you gave to the Natives, removing them from the New Socialist Empire.

Between our two governments, we hope the people of Asylan are sure of their cause, as we in Ivernia see little and less value to the region, in the grand theatre of Europe in general.

The International Commission on Decolonisation of Himyar feels it necessary to refute one claim being made in the Asylanian press: the constitution of the Eastern Cape was written by this body. The Constitution of the Republic of the Eastern Cape is in fact a temporary document agreed between the exiting Danish colonial authorities and the transitional government of the Eastern Cape.

The member-states of the International Commission on Decolonisation of Himyar are currently in the process of creating the environment necessary for free and fair elections to take place, when a new constitution can then be decided by a democratically-elected government.

Behind the veil of the so called liberty stands the return of colonialism and white minority rule. We will stand away from this abomination until it is legalized through a nation wide referendum, in which all the Capers accept the butchering of their territory. We will prefer the federalization of the Eastern Cape Republic as a response to those problems, not the separation, that in time it might bring even worse problems.

Government Drama Continues​

Asylan today is still mired in the political scandal of the councilors and the President himself who set off the Erdenshire crisis, in which many have cried an "imperialist will" from the former leader. While President Hollande has not officially been removed as President of Asylan, it seems likely at this stage that the National Council will vote against, given the immense amount of evidence against him and other councilors which have been removed from their posts. This has opened the way for a new Candidate from the United Libertarian party, one Kirsten Lange, a retired and incredibly popular Navy admiral who was considered the "restraining hand" at Erdenshire, and had delayed in implementing further mobilization orders. While some have called her act "disloyal" or "traitorous" such as the Hollande himself, the majority of the populace and council has hailed her as a national hero, saving lives when some in top leadership were willing to throw them away. Opinion polls already show that Candidate Lange is far in the lead from the next nearest candidate. "This incident has somehow united Asylan public opinion for the first time in a few decades. Never before has one candidate been able to bring together public opinion so quickly. However we should all note that this opinion spike has more to do with the handling of one incident than discussion of national policy. We should see these numbers stabilize over the next coming day. But with the replacement elections in only one week, this boost will undoubtedly be invaluable" Said George Osten, chief political analyst for the Eitlan Times. ---- Asylan has again made the decision to protect some of its maritime trade by sending escorts with convoys bound to the Empire of Sikandara. The escort mission has been limited to Asylan registered vessels only, and will only continue should the seas in the region remain unstable.

Asylan Pursues Economic Development, and New Military Strategy​

Sylvanian Trade Accords​ Earlier in the month Asylan signed additional deals with Sylvania marking closer relations between the two Triparte nations. The two most noteworthy deals signed by the two governments was an exchange of fuels. Asylan, through the Asylan Oil Coporation has decided to diversify oil holdings from across the globe and has signed an import agreement for specifically that. On top of this Ostwen National Gas LLC has been given the go ahead for large natural gas shipments to the Sylvanian mainland. On other notes, Sylvania and Asylan have formalized the removal of restriction of travel visas and have also begun talks on inquiring to the construction of more naval aircraft. New Trade Agreement Signed with Saraar​ As of last week Asylan has solidified a development package designed for economic aid, modernization, and construction efforts with the west Himyar country. Large amounts of money have been invested in a variety of Saraar businesses. "We are excited to have facilitated a deal between many of Asylan's top leading corporations, Asylan publicly owned companies, and business in Saraar. To assuage any concerns of Asylan business interests taking total control of the country in an economic sense Saraar businesses that have been invested in have been encouraged to keep their own majority stake." Ambassador Lajunen spoke today at a public conference, "We believe these steps can lead to better relations between our two nations and strengthen the core of the Saraar economy." What marks this new agreement is the Asylan development of large amounts of oil reserves which had been left under exploited by previous Saraar businesses, which could guarantee Asylan a safe supply of oil for decades to come. ANS Trogan Officially Decommissioned​ Early this week the Trogan was escorted by its old task force on one last journey for the ship under Asylan control. Captain Benson, the old captain of the Trogan, had a bittersweet statement on the transfer of command, "We are sad to see one of Asylan's proud carriers to be lost. However we are delighted to hear that the Trogan will not be having its last journey today but will live on through our allies." Upon arrival a brief ceremony was conducted between Captain Benson and the new Ivernian commander of the ship, officially changing its name and handing over command. Economic and Housing Package for Erdenshire ​ Despite the end of the Augustaborg crisis refugees from all over the Eastern Cape continue to flood into Erdenshire. "At this point Erdenshire has filled up with nearly twenty thousand refugees again. We have made the decision to allow permanent habitation of up to fifty thousand residents on the islands from refugee sources. Critical human rights issues with food and shelter have been dealt with, and since Asylan has made the decision to include Erdenshire for territorial purposes as if it was the mainland itself it is open to any aid any citizen would receive on the mainland. We hope to be able to have a bustling trade port on Erdenshire before too long." Director Joel Haavsteg, head of the Department of Commerce, commented on the island. The issue of Erdenshire is a split one between politicians. While all politicians supported keeping the island roughly half are undecided as to its value. "What we are seeing is a test of Asylan economic strategy. If the government is able to make Erdenshire a place worth living, and a productive portion of the overall country of Asylan, I think most can call it an undoubtful sucess, as well as a sort of victory over Carentania, who was hoping to see Asylan relinquish control of the island." Political analyst Jay Friestwald noted. Elections Continue​ Elections are nearly upon us, with massive support seen in support of former Admiral and now president hopeful Kirsten Lange. Nearly sixty three percent of a recent APN polls putting her heavily in the lead. Many value Lange's response to the Augustaborg confrontation in a refusal to directly engage Carentanian forces, until the dust was settled. Many applaud her for saving the lives of countless soldiers on both sides of the disagreement. Many on the extremem right however have labeled her a traitor and have denounced her ascendancy to a presidential run.

Kirsten Lange Elected President​

The national elections concluded today with near expected results for President Elect Kirsten Lange, who will assume responsibilities as President of the Republic of Asylan at the end of the week as the Vice President, who also ran for the same office again under Lange's campaign, concludes his brief tenure as de facto president of the country. Many politicians and analysts are still shocked at the popular furor in which the new President to be rode in on. Many analysts now say it is general anger at the government and the widespread allegations of high corruption that triggered this wave of dissension. Many people interviewed believe that Lange, a career naval officer with no negative strikes on her record could bring stability, and clean the government of its more unsavory elements. On top of this the nation celebrates the first time a woman has even been elected to as high an office as President in Asylan history. The last such major event for woman in Asylan occurred in 1932, when Councilwoman Jeri Saanders took her role on the National Council. For citizens who have doubted whether Asylan has lost its way in the world, the President Elect has stated she continues to support military reformation, moving away from a carrier based fleet to a more flexible and specialized military to work in conjunction with the Triparte Pact, an organization Asylan has been in for several months now. On top of this she has continued to voice her support for developing Erdenshire and has recently made vague comments on Asylan observance of the more increasingly successful rebellion in Danmark.
