Federal Funding For Rail Tunnel Connecting Sequoia Islands Gets Green Light.

Hesper - Congress completed a milestone today, as a major rail project set to connect the mainland to the two major islands in the Sequoia Island chain passed the Chamber with a majority vote. Federal funding had the green light to begin construction, that would enable easier access to the two major Islands off the coast, including the city of Lorelei. The project, that included connecting the major cities of Chryse by high speed-rail, is an effort pushed by President Grace who defended the project as "A major step in updating and modernizing the infrastructure of the Country, allowing Chryse to keep up with the times in new an innovative ways." The project had been in the works for many years, with experts mounting for calls of "Major updates in roads, highways, and new research into modern methods of travel." It would improve the strain on travelers between the Islands and the mainland, who rely on ferries and air travel to reach destinations in the island chain. Initial projects heralded by State Governments we're brought up for debate in the past, but were struck down by many State legislatures who claimed that projects would leave States "flat broke."

Months later, supported by a slight uptick in economic progress and a popular agenda in Hesper, President Grace championed hard for these projects in Congress, and across the country, visiting major manufacturing Plants and delivering speeches to many outlining "the core advantages of a major update in infrastructure across the country that would modernize the way we travel today and the way we work in a modernized world." The Tunnel project is expected to begin by the end of this year, and would try to be completed by the beginning of 2014.

Governor Faces Backlash Over Proposed Decision to Not Accept Rail Funds, Calls For Recall Mount.

Cydonia - The Governors Mansion seems to be bustling with activity lately, but for all the reasons Governor Crist doesnt want. The current Governor, who was elected not but a few months ago, has faced some of the harshest backlash so far after he publicly refused to accept funds for the new High Speed Rail project, lobbied by President Grace and passed by Congress as part of a major tag connected to the new Budget for the Fiscal Year. The Cydonian Governor is the first State Governor to flatout deny the acceptance of funds for the new rail, in a statement describing the project as "a flawed waste of money that seeks to drain the State of its coiffers and bankrupt the citizens for the Governments own agenda." The statement came as not a surprise to some, but those voicing their opposition to the Governor's decision seem to be those from his own party. Studies showed, that rail connecting to the major of City of Cydonia would average a "substational" surplus within the first year of service, the state benefiting from a economic advantage that hasn't been present over the past decade.

This isn't the first time the current Governor has been harshly critisized. Earlier in the year, weeks after taking office, The Governor accused the current Government of "forcing their idealologies down the throats of the average citizen" and using questional methods in selling the Grace Administrations agenda. His approval rating soon took a dip, after he pushed through with a bill that would cut funding to Education and State Health Assistance, of which a large portion of the population benefits from. Protestors swarmed the Governors Mansion, a common scene nowadays, where recent calls for the Governors recall has been the most prominent. The Governor, legally, will not be able to face a recall election until another few months. Local groups have already begun the process of drawing up plans in support of the recall, and the momentum seems to be going against the Governors favor.

Top Afternoon News In Brief

 President Grace addressed the nation this afternoon in a discussion about the growing hostilities between Solaren and Nicosia, and the decision by the Nicosian Government to give in to Solaren demands and pay the ransom placed on innocent hostages:

"The International Community was too quick to harp on the Nicosian Government, after the painful decision to give in to Solaren demands for the freedom of their hostages. It is unclear how hard the decision must have been for the Nicosian Government, but the move was made and the hostages were freed into safe hands. A victory was achieved today, regardless of how such a victory was won. Nevertheless, karma will have it's time and the Solaren Government will ultimately pay for its blind ignorance and growing threat it posses to humankind."

 Protests grow in the Cydonian capital, as hundreds of civilians march of the Governors Mansion protesting Governor Crist's growing ignorance towards relations with Hesper, The President, and the possibility of budget cuts that would severely cut programs the growing populace of the state relies on the most. Earlier this week, the Governor issued a statement to Hesper insisting the state of Cydonia will refuse to accept funds for the Rail Project, the first state to do so.

 A monthly report out continues to show a sharp decrease in Home sales, the lowest the country has seen within the last decade. The economy continues to show slow growth after a small surge the past few months. Rent prices were expected to skyrocket due to the report with low Housing demand, the populace being more inclined towards Apartment and Town home style living instead.

Top Afternoon News In Brief

 Hesper and Congressional Leaders changed the tone of policy this weekend, with initiatives for new found projects into Deep Sea Drilling was brought to debate to combat the serious lack of natural energy reserves the country possess. Chrysian dependence on foreign oil and the lack of sufficient access to any stored reserves has brought to the floor the debate that would allow the country to independently explore possible Off-shore Drilling initiatives. Issues like these have taken a back seat to policies related to the Budget and other Economic initiatives that Congress has focused on the past few months. President Grace expressed her willingness to allow a Committee, a bi-partisan selection of both Presidential Mansion Advisers and Congressional Leaders, to explore the possibilities of such new Energy initiatives. Despite this, the Grace Administration has remained mum on what other, if any, initiatives will be explored and if such Policy will come together within the next few months.

 Secretary of State Kirk has come under fire after speaking to reporters about the situation in Solaren, most notably that he had labeled Pope Urban and the Solaren Government "a terrorist threat" and the need for real Democratic reform in Torrence is dire. Kirk was quick to rebuff that such a claim was said, backtracking to deny he had called Pope Urban or the Solaren Government "terrorists" and that he should step down immediately. He defended his claim for Democratic reforms in Torrence, stating, "The situation could be easily cleared up if the establishment of Democracy was swift, aimed to create further peace and destabilize the region almost indefinitely."

 Severe storms wreak havoc in the southern coastal states of Tharsis and Austyn, spawning dozens of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that has left 3 people dead and 20 others wounded. Severe storms ripped through Port Tharsis, where torrential rain caused minor flooding on the outskirts of town and caused power to fail across much of the city. A tornado was reported to have touched down around the Port Tharsis suburb of Francescone to the north, where two people were killed and one remained missing as a path of destruction gutted the small community earlier this afternoon. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for the coastal areas of Tharsis, and a Tornado Watch is in effect for much of the southern half of Austyn until later tonight.

We urge our neighbours in the Grace Administration to consider a wide energy review, before committing to the extended possibility of off-shore deep sea drilling. For we continue to believe that the future of the regional economy will be one that begins to move away from out-right dependence on oil and seeks to build a greener, sustainable region.

Political Shakeup Splits Conservative Party, Extreme Right Wing Evangelicals Caucus As New Party.

Mensa - Political upheaval seems to have gripped the Conservative party, as ideological differences and extremism have caused tensions to boil over within party ranks. A new faction of deeply religious and right wing fundamentalists have announced their independence from the Conservative Party, forming a new political party that calls themselves The Golden Moral Majority (GMMP). Recent elections nationally have shown a trend away from the right, with the past two elections showing major gains for the Democratic party. The Conservative Party's influence has dulled even more, as the growing population is trending more left and progressive as the years go forward. Last years crushing defeat in Congress was the straw that broke the Yaks back, as deeply Conservative districts fell to more moderate Democratic opponents as Conservative influence waned significantly. Led by Pastor Randy Claymore Blythe, the Leader of the controversial Claymore Church which is an organization known for it's vocal opposition to progressive ideals like Abortion and Gay Rights, the Golden Moral Majority laid out a platform that has attracted the right wing fanaticism that most in the party believed was "being ignored by the Conservative Party, in exchange for a more moderate platform."

"We've abandoned the Conservative Party just as they abandoned the true ideals of being what a true Conservative means. God has laid down the foundation for us to start anew, and I humbly invite anyone to join the cause and bring back true Conservatism that has long since left us under past leadership." Blythe spoke to a fiery crowd of supporters outside the Claymore Church, with volunteers and top political operatives present in a political rally that drew a sizable crowd. Willard Steele, Chairman of the Conservative Party, declined to comment on the recent events that has shaken his party. "Our focus is on the next election, and we will continue to commit our resources to winning the future for our Children and this country." Political insiders agree that the events surrounding the collapse of the Conservative Party were "inevitable", with the party influence greatly weakened and a rise in deep right wing opposition against the Party. The Golden Moral Majority is made up of mostly evangelical white-working class voters, who are outspoken in their opposition against Gay Marriage, Abortion Rights, various other social issues, and the Government's influence in people's everyday lives. It is unknown of the future influence the new party will have, but many believe the new party might have greater power in the upcoming mid term elections.

Tornado Outbreak Cuts Swath Through Central States, Multiple Fatalities Reported.

Valasco - Severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc across the nations heartland this afternoon, with as many as 30 Tornado sightings and multiple fatalities reported making today's outbreak one of the deadliest in the nations history. In the town of Valasco, a small town outside Bahram, a mile wide tornado was reported carving a path of destruction that left 70% of the town's infrastructure in shambles. 65 fatalities have been reported in Valasco alone, with numerous still missing leaving many to believe the death toll will rise once rescue efforts officially are underway. Elsewhere in the state, 200 miles to the southwest of Bahram, a tornado swept through the towns of Chandra and Hebron, leaving trees uprooted and roofs in splinters. Chandra High School took a direct hit from the tornado, where it is believed three students and one member of the staff lost their lives. Overall, 9 people where reported dead in Chandra and 2 in Hebron. Meteorologists had predicted days in advance that the Central states could be dealing with Severe Weather, with a growing indication that a "Potentially Dangerous Situation" was possible. The storm system was so far reaching, the Capital even saw some severe weather as hail the size of golf balls and heavy rain drenched the city for much of the late afternoon.

President Antilae declared the tornado stricken heartland a disaster zone, and federal aide quickly began to pour much of it's resources into the rescue effort. Valasco Police and Fire we're so swamped with distress calls, that assistance was required and a alert sent out across the Bahram metro where city officials quickly responded. Additional dispatch was sent to Valasco hours after the tornado struck, where debris clogged roads and no power made the rescue effort a daunting task for the once thriving community. "The whole town has been completely wiped off the map...", says Valasco Mayor Taylor Downes. "The threat is always there and in the back of your mind sits that thought of inevitability, but you never expect it to be this bad. It's surreal."

Oculyse Senate Votes 3-2 To Break Controversial Military Imprisonment Bill Obstruction, Bill Heads For Immediate Vote In House.

Aurumryse - The Oculyse Senate, the subcommittee formed by Congressional Conservatives at the beginning of the new Session that randomly assigns five Senators Superdelegate status that has the power to break filibusters, override Presidential vetoes, and even amend the Constitution, was enacted today to forcefully break ongoing Obstruction that surrounds a controversial bill circulating the capital. The Indefinite Military Imprisonment Bill (IMIB), drafted by Sen. Nathaniel Meyers (CON-Pavona), would allow the Chryse Military to "seize" and "detain" anyone suspected of terrorist activity and hold them indefinitely pending an investigation by the Justice Department. The bill is the latest in Conservative efforts to step up their influence in national security issues ahead of President Antilae's announced visit to Fort Haise, the largest Air Base in the country, later this week to discuss possible cuts to the defense budget. Senate Liberals have kept the bill up in debate for a couple days, hoping to prolong a vote and possibly kill it for good until Congress recesses for Summer break. The Oculyse Senate can only be summoned for a vote if the Senate musters enough majority votes to call the Superdelegates to meet. Conservatives we're able to persuade a handful of Liberal Hawks to join their ranks to call the Oculyse Senate to order, and the five Superdelegates (Two Conservatives, Two Liberals, and One Indy) voted mostly on on party lines. Independent Senator Angus King(IND-Vega), the first Indy elected to the Senate, caucused with the Conservatives to kill the filibuster and force an immediate vote in the House.

The bill is expected to pass the House later tonight, but it's chance in the Senate remains a mystery since the Oculyse Senate was not dismissed and still holds the power to sway the vote for or even against passage. President Antilae commented on the events earlier, voicing her continued displeasure about the Subcommittee itself and how it's conducted. "It gives Congress a new found power to control certain legislation in a away that seems quite unorthodox and some would say very questionable. There are better ways to conduct solutions to such issues in the Legislative branch, this is just an abuse of power." The Subcommittee was founded when the current Session of Congress was sworn in and rules were drafted. Conservative leaders debated the new rules, hailing the formation of the Committee that would "Make life exceptionally easier" in the Capital. The landmark change sparked an uproar within the ranks of Senior Congressional leaders, but a deal was struck with Congressional Liberals at the last moment and the rules were accepted. The Progressive Caucus, a growing group of Far left Politicians, have continued to push for the rules to be revoked, in exchange for a more useful solution that "acknowledges Congress as a whole, not a group of pols looking for cheap power grabs."

Secretary of State visits Boliatur, sets dialogue between Aurumryse and Mrysini as "Open and Friendly."

Mrysini - Heading a delegation that included Senator Marsh from the Congressional Foreign Relations Committee and numerous other advisers to the Executive Manor, Secretary of State Constance Visage met with Chairman Nodovinya in the Boliaturian capital to discuss the framework for an economic alliance that would open the doors to one of the biggest trade deals in Chryse history. Specifics from the deal included access to a large chunk of Boliaturian oil reserves and a closer bond between the two capitals, in exchange for Boliaturian access to valuable resources from the Golden Plains. The meeting touched on economic issues mostly, though discussions surrounding the growing tensions between Boliatur and Yujin we're floated as well. Secretary of State Visage ruled out any sort of involvement in the growing tensions, but commented that, "The situation remains within the scope of officials in Aurumryse and will be monitored closely." When pressed, Visage denied the possibility of any future military involvement in foreign affairs "unless provoked by a foreign danger that would put the lives of our people at risk."

Conservatives in Aurumryse were quick to harp on the Secretary of State's visit, including the deal that was struck between both delegations. The country still relies on foreign oil, as lack of sustainable reserves at home remain a problem. The deal, when finalized they argue, would just make the problem worse and would "set us back after years of progression towards our independence from foreign oil." Conservatives in Congress have been trying for years to allow drilling to commence offshore of Maraldi, but the issue has never been brought to a vote due to Liberal opposition. President Antilae hailed the meeting as "a success", and welcomes the new friendship between the two capitals as "a beneficial relationship for both parties involved."

President Antilae Holds Meeting With Secretary of Defense and DoD Agencies Regarding Plans to Conduct Largest Military Exercise in Decades.

Aurumryse - President Antilae visited the Defense Department Headquarters in Aurumryse earlier today, where it was said high level talks between the President, multiple agencies within the Defense Department, and Secretary of State Neil Aldrin took place to discuss the future of Chryse's military and plans to conduct "one of the largest military exercises in decades", according to Press Secretary Jay Karney. The move by President Antilae comes on the heels of proposed investments by the Department of Defense and the President herself in new age military technology and updated defense programs, including new armed drone technology and ballistics missile defense, among others discussed. President Antilae is the first President in twenty years to propose such an increase in defense spending, pitting her against her own party's ideology regarding the issue. Far left members of Congress were quick to jump on the President, calling the plans " unnecessary" while defending the current military standards as adequate, some even prodding the current system as being "inordinate" already. Antilae soon released a statement at a Press Conference at the Defense Department Headquarters, with Secretary of State Aldrin present as well:

"With policies implemented by this Administration, we have fulfilled our promise of pushing the country forward by investing in our roads, bridges, and rail that keeps the infrastructure of our country strong. We invested in our children's education, setting the course for our future generation to succeed. We invested in our health care, which allows the millions of those uninsured the chance at having proper medical coverage that will save their lives. We are not done, now we must invest in a stronger military that will continue to protect our boundaries and keep the country safe. Our defenses are next in line, and without an updated defense our country cannot move forward."

Secretary of State Aldrin revealed in the Press Conference that military officials were in the process of setting up plans to conduct short range missile launches off the coast of Miraldi within the next few months, stating "the first wave of exercises will be conducted to first test our short range missile systems off the coast of Miraldi. We are looking at a time frame of around the next few months or so, before we begin to draw up plans for long range missile launches within the foreseeable future."
