Introduction
The Levant has a large automotive industry, most Levantine families owning one or more cars. Previously the internal market was dominated by Levantine manufacturers, but this changed during the 90's, the combination of shoddy performance by a number of car manufacturers and an influx of companies from Eiffelland put significant strain on the main three mainstream car brands, Volvo, Serrat and Llussá. In response to this, these companies diversified their business models, branching out in related businesses such as truck-manufacturing, and the development of power tools and suspension and powertrain products.
In past years, the market share of Serrat, Volvo and Llussá has stabilized and increased somewhat again, however it seems that mostly Volkswagen and Audi are in the Levant to stay. In the luxury segment, Levantine brands have kept their dominance despite an aggressive campaign by Porsche, Maserati and Bentley remaining popular among Levant's most decadently rich. The Levant is represented in a number of branches of autosport, Volvo has been involved in Touring Car Championships, Maserati in several GT Championships and Bentley in the Le Mans Prototype Championship. Volvo, Serrat and Llussá have all been involved in rally sports.
Cadafalch Automobiles is a large car manufacturer, it's production ranging from regular cars to trucks and engines for armored vehicles. It's prime business remains cars through it's Serrat and Volvo brands. Cadafalch also produces a number of military trucks for the Levantine army, a the Cadafalch Professional division produces civilian trucks under the Volvo branding.
Serrat
One of the best selling brands of the Levant, Serrat has for some time been known as a relatively shoddy car maker both within the Levant and outside, and during the 80's and early 90's had such an image problem that they pulled out of a number of markets abroad. During the past 5 years, a daring marketing campaign and better engineering and design while maintaining low price levels has improved the market share of Serrat cars. Serrat has expressed a focus for developing markets.
