Analysis and news for group-by-group results:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Group 1

KIQUA, CENTRAL CENTRALIA-- This round's match between Central Centralia and Touzen certainly turned out exactly the way the hosts wanted it to be. With a score of 2-0, Central Centralia was able to dominate the field with precise ball passing and for the most part, accurate shots. Touzen did have some impressive plays and some very close shots, as well as a missed penalty, but overall the team looked tired today. With the win over Touzen, Central Centralia was able to claim the leader position for Group One in the tables, where they have a narrow lead over Touzen by goal difference.

As for the other match in this round with a face-off between Aurarine Republic and The Fennian Union, there was no domination as both teams showed true talent. The Fennian Union first broke the silence in the 41st minute with a shot from inside the box to pocket the ball in the right corner of the net. Aurarine Republic responded three minutes later with a wild shot from outside the box with a goal that was placed right in the left corner, which was virtually impossible for any goalkeeper to stop. After the half the game was tied most of the game until the 72nd minute when an Aurarine defender fouled one of The Fennian Union's strikers, resulting in a yellow card and a penalty kick for The Fennian Union. After this, the score was at 2-1 until nearly the end of the game when an Aurarine Republic striker was able to get a break away from the defenders off of a counter attack, which left the Aurarine striker and the Fennian goalie alone. The Aurarine player cleverly chipped the ball over the Fennian goalkeeper's head, resulting in the tie that saved Aurarine Republic from another disappoining loss.

Group 2

RELLSIPEN CITY, CENTRAL CENTRALIA-- Group 2 is regarded as one of the most difficult groups of the EFL, with some even calling it the 'Group of Death' and it is easy to see why. The matchup between Vestrland and Sylvania was an all-out action packed game with a few surprises (unfortunately two cases were violent- resulted in the expulsion of two players, one from Vestrland and one from Sylvania). Despite the roughhousing brought by some players on both teams, this was a very exciting game to watch as both teams were determined to win. In the end, however, it was Vestrland that emerged victorious with a goal off of a header from a corner kick in the 79th minute. This win brought Vestrland to first place in Group 2, while Sylvania was left in last place (although the gap between first and last is only three points).

Jurchen Republic was certainly predicted to win, although by a slim margin, but nonetheless was predicted to be the winner in the matchup against Cantignia. However, Cantignia stunned Jurchen Republic with a 2-0 lead at half time, with the opening goal by Cantignia in the 5th minute of the game. It could be said that both teams had equal amounts of ball possession and oportunities but clearly Cantignia's defense proved to be the better. Jurchen Republic was only able to get one goal off of a shot within the box that rattled the left post and rolled in. However, it was not enough to stop Cantignia from pulling a much needed win. With Cantignia's win Group 2 appears more evenly matched than ever, as Cantignia and Jurchen Republic each have seven points in the standings, just behind Vestrland by one point and just ahead of Sylvania by two points. Right now it is certainly too close to call which teams will make it to the playoffs when the time comes.

Group 3

GOLARSEN, CENTRAL CENTRALIA-- Group 3 brings the most shocking results of all the groups, as the underdogs stood up in this round's matches and put their foot down, determined not to let the big dogs win. And alas, they succeeded. First we remember the Ivernia matchup against Franken, arguably the most nail-biting and hair-standing match of the year. Ivernia started off the match in the 12th minute with a bang, and a beautiful bang at that. One of Ivernia's midfielders, who was unfortunately injured later in the game, blasted a shot from way outside the box with a goal that easily tops the best goals of this tournament. Needless to say, this did not discourage Franken from responding nine minutes later with a goal off of a header from a wild right cross into the box. Ivernia finished off the half on top with a goal in the 42nd minute, determined to make their point. Nevertheless, whatever the heck Franken's head coach said to influence the players during half time had a strong effect on them, and Franken displayed impressive unity and ball control, with Franken tying the game in the 56th minute. As the game went on, the Ivernia players, weary but not ready to quit, fought on until the 80th minute when one of their key midfielders was severly injured and suffered a broken ankle bone after quite a hard accidental hit with one of Franken's defenders. Despite shouts from Ivernia's coach and the Ivernian fans to punish the Franken defender, there was no card or free kick given. The Ivernian players, now somewhat discouraged, let off their game and Franken was able to seize the opportunity on yet another controversial play where the Franken striker scored off of a breakaway that appeared to originate from an offsides pass. However, the referee from Yelshiva said that the goal was valid, giving a victory to Franken. This was certainly a match that will never go unforgotten. In a show of fair play, the Ivernia and Franken players shook hands and traded jerseys despite a few angry emotions from Ivernia's side.

Østveg was the other team in Group 3 to stun the big dog. Tyrrhenia was widely favored to win this match, yet Østveg never lost hope and was able to bring home three points. Despite the contrast between the radiant matchup between Ivernia and Franken and this game, which was largely unwatched but nevertheless exciting, this match was a crucial win for Østveg and a terrible downfall for Tyrrhenia. Both teams are regarded as 'underdogs' in Group 3 but that will not stop them from bringing surprises to Ivernia and Franken, who enjoy a somewhat large lead over both teams. If Østveg can show the talent that they did this matchup, then it is certain that they have the potential to stop both teams. However, as we near the halfway point in the league with Round 6, both teams will need to step up their game if they want to make it to the playoffs.

Group 4

JALAPALA, CENTRAL CENTRALIA-- Group 4's matches began with a faceoff between Tolvix and Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, and the predictions in this game were in favor of Tolvix; except this time the predictions were correct. The predictions were almost wrong, however, and those who watched the game know that is true. In fact, it was Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach that opened the game with a goal from inside the box in the 8th minute, leading for most of the half until Tolvix responded in the 38th minute with an unstoppable goal that was pocketed into the right bottom corner. The half ended 1-1, and once again, Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach was the team that opened the second half with yet another goal in the 47th minute. Tolvix would not respond with another goal until the 84th minute, which was just in the nick of time. Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach was determined to win, but with two minutes left in the game this would be a tough task. Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach had their opportunity in the 90th minute when a corner was awarded to them, but disaster came for them during this play. The goalkeeper for Tolvix successfully punched the goal out of the box, and a Tolvix defender cleared the ball out of their side of the field. Then there was a lone Tolvix striker waiting upfield unnoticed, who carried the ball up the field and scored just seconds before the referee would have blown the whistle. The player was proven not to be offsides due to the fact that there was a defender in the upfield that was behind Tolvix's striker, just on the other side of the field. This would have jumped Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach to at least third place had they won or even tied.

The next match, between Yelshiva and Siyang, was a decisive match that would jump the victor closer to Tolvix, the current leader of Group 4. Although nothing truly exciting happened during this match, there were a few good plays that ended up with scores on the board. In the end, it was Yelshiva who won the match after the final goal was scored in the 76th minute. Both teams after this goal grew very weary and very little was done after this goal. Both teams were at 5 points apiece and both teams knew that the winner would get a chance to topple Tolvix, the team that has dominated Group 4 for the most part. Next week, Yelshiva will be wishing for a victory against Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach as well as wishing for their rivals this round to win next round, as Siyang faces off against Tolvix. Siyang has already defeated Tolvix 4-3, and both Yelshiva fans and Siyang fans alike will be rooting for Siyang as next week brings a clear opportunity to topple Tolvix from the first place spot.

The first matches for tonight have concluded! Cantignia wins over Sylvania (2-0) and may have a shot at going to the next round! Meanwhile, in a hair-pulling and nail-biting match between Østveg and Ivernia, the Ivernia team just barely held off Østveg in the end to win (3-4).

The next two matches have concluded! These two matches were ties but nonetheless exciting to watch. Central Centralia and Aurarine Republic ended with a 3-3 draw, while Siyang and Valkany finished with a 0-0 draw. In Group 4, it is now in the hands of the match between Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and Yelshiva to see who stays and who will go home.
