The nation has today woken to a terrible natural disaster that has devastated one of the Aquanas largest cities, Khet. Large parts of the inner city, including the central business district, are under water as the Khet River burst it's banks, unable to contain the large volumes of rainfall that has fallen over the past three days.

Emergency services crews swung into action yesterday as it became apparent the river would overflow, sand bagging thousands of properties and helping thousands of residents evacuate, but for many properties there was little that could be done. Many residents made it out just as the flood waters begun flowing through their homes and businesses. Emergency refuge shelters are over flowing, with over 50,000 people flocking to them, and many tens of thousands more seeking refuge elsewhere.

The worst is not yet over, with more storms forecast for the region, forcing the government to declare a natural disaster zone. The city and state of Khet accounts for ten percent of the nations gross domestic product. Authorities say it is still too early to say how much damage is done and what the final cost will be, but there is a good chance it will run into the billions.

With more rain on the way, questions are being asked about the nations political and economic isolation. Opposition parties in parliament are demanding the government end Aquanas self imposed isolation, and seek assistance in dealing with the flood crisis.
