Prince Schwarzenberg had entered the Emperor's chambers not too long ago, the meeting completely off the record. As the two men enjoyed their tea, they discussed burning matters of immediate national security, the chancellor delivering his cabinet's decisions and actions to the head of state of the country. It had been brief, odd; Schwarzenberg was less subservient than Baden had been, and the Kaiser enjoyed this. This man took initiatives, he needed no directives to rule. It was the CSU's way, as the chancellor had put it; and the initiatives the man had taken were interesting enough.

Schwarzenberg had come mostly with announcements from the war and foreign ministries, top-secret ones. The alert status of the military as a whole had been raised significantly, especially in the southern and eastern military districts. The missile force was at borderline war readiness, the air force shortly behind, and the army lagging behind them in all but border sectors albeit not by far. It was no mobilisation, however; merely anticipation of a great ill befalling the country.

"...And as of the Danes?" Friedrich Wilhelm asked, immediately changing subjects from the military affairs.

"We fully expect the nationalists to score a victory" Schwarzenberg replied with certainty. "The country once again proves itself far too volatile to trust" he added swiftly.

The Kaiser frowned; he did not enjoy such talk of Wieserreich's allies, even if one was about to become just a neutral neighbour.

"The suspension of Danish membership to the Germanian League is a given in our book" continued Schwarzenberg. "The military issues raised are virtually zero beyond what I explained earlier, but the economic fallout... it is going to be critical" he frowned.

The Kaiser nodded plainly.

"We have prepared emergency funds in order to armour the economy from the fallout, as much as possible. A Danish suspension of their League membership means no more free trade, and this in turn means a loss of business. The economy ministry is already reporting corporations are redirecting their businesses to Franken, seen as far more stable" Schwarzenberg continued.

"Of course, this brings up the issue of fallout from other countries..." muttered the old emperor.

"...Not much of an issue, comparatively. Danmark's closest trade relations in the League have been with the Reich and Eiffelland. The more distant members should not be affected as much, and with emergency funds to be poured immediately to the economy, we believe we can limit the issue" replied Schwarzenberg. "And then we have the emergency measures to follow the funds."

"Hrm. You might be overestimating this; our border tariffs are low, no? It should mean higher prices in certain commodities, but no massive hikes or anything unless we are outright embargoed" the Kaiser commented.

"...Perhaps" replied Schwarzenberg. "We are unwilling to risk it, however; so we are holding on for the moment they take a slip and severe our trade agreements. Which the nationalists have stated they will."

The Kaiser nodded quietly, before asking an odd question. "What of Mittelrhein?"

Schwarzenberg arched his eyebrows. "N... Nothing, Your Majesty. Shall I make arrangements?"

Friedrich Wilhelm did not reply.

"Is it an order?" he asked with a slightly defiant tone.

Friedrich Wilhelm did not reply still; Schwarzenberg frowned.

"I shall look into it" the chancellor conceded.

The Emperor stared at his grand map, with all his chess pieces, and smirked in a tired, elderly manner. "Everything is going according to plan" he muttered in his thick Saxon accent, before extending his fingers and knocking over a Black Queen. "...Headshot" he muttered, and he would stare at the knocked over piece for a few long and quiet moments. He then brought a white pawn, and placed it next to the knocked-down queen.

His butler's entry made him pause and look elsewhere.

"Your Majesty, the Reichskanzler... requests your immediate attention" spoke the other elderly, extremely loyal man, and bowed softly. The Emperor just nodded absent-mindedly.

"Bring him in Georg" he commanded.

"In your pyjamas, sire?" Georg asked back.

"There is no helping it, now, is there? Bring him in."

"As you desire, Your Majesty."

It was not long before Friedrich Wilhelm and Schwarzenberg were enjoying some breakfast right next to the queer map with the chess pieces. The Prince could not help but stare, wish to ask questions; but it was not why he was here for. What captivated him was a knocked-down queen, with a white piece standing next to her. He wished to ask, somehow relating it with the matters they were currently discussing, but it was not his place.

"The pawns are moving" observed the 102-year-old Emperor as he noticed the Prince's observations.

"...I noticed. We have taken action as far as our preparations allowed" replied the chancellor seriously. "The borders with Danmark are restored, though we are implementing low-tariff policies to not hurt trade. In addition, we have our prepared funds to subsidise industries threatened with too high losses; but the sudden implementation of low tariffs should not prove a catastrophe" he commented.

"Continue with subjects you wish to talk about, Rudolf" spoke Friedrich Wilhlem as he sipped his tea.

"...In addition we have declared Defence Condition 2 across the Reichswehr, Landwehr and Landsturm. The RSA will ensure this does not get leaked to the press" he added with a dissatisfied frown. "And we have suspended all arms trade and investments across the border."

"You expected the withdrawal but not the Kievan troops, didn't you?" the Emperor asked as he nibbled on a biscuit. "No matter. It is no matter, merely hollow warnings. If you do not give a casus belli, they do not have one."

"They might not -need- one, Your Majesty" Rudolf von Schwarzenberg replied with a growl.

"Then make haste to prepare for that too. When they officially withdraw from the League, take firm and immediate action... Oh, and get in touch with Waylon" nodded the Kaiser.

"...Sir? 'Waylon'?" Rudolf asked in confusion. "You mean the Talemantine Emperor?"

Friedrich Wilhelm nodded in a creepy, too-casual manner.

OOC: All dates from here on are after the shift to a 1952 RP, though the characters will, by principle, the same (albeit with different ages in the cases of the Kaiser and the Kronprinz).

Schloß Belvedere, Augsburg
Swabia, Wieserreich - 12 November 1952, 10.30 pm

The [wiki]Belvedere Palace[/wiki] served as the Imperial winter residence from roughly October or November to roughly March or April approximately since 1744. There was always confusion about the official purpose of each palace, unfortunately. Belvedere was the uncontested winter residence, but from 1810 the [wiki]Nymphenburg Palace[/wiki] of the Swabian monarchs had been shunned for the Imperial [wiki]Schönbrunn Palace[/wiki], which was the most commonly used summer residence since then.

Or, as Friedrich Wilhelm's father Karl summed it up, "we have more palaces than we need, or can make use of".

Friedrich Wilhelm's biggest problem was moving his favourite map. In Schönbrunn he had first deployed a nice world map, which he had proceeded to cover with neatly and not-so-randomly placed chess pieces from pawn to king, from various sets. Every November he had the same problem: how to best move it without subjecting it to changes. In the end he just gave up and re-set it twice a year, when he moved residences indeed.

It was an odd hobby he had since he ascended on the throne, more or less. His wife didn't understand, his son and daughters didn't understand either. Karl was bright, if somewhat bitter for not being the first-born child; Eleonore was brilliant, but the fact she was the first-born child, and a woman at that, annoyed her immensely. And at the same time, both were too proud to give up their succession rights.

Friedrich Wilhelm knew well. In the case of Eleonore, especially, it meant a lot: her succession rights in Swabia were her only gateway to being free of the social expectation to marry, breed, and just be subservient to the scion of another House. Karl, on the other had, had vested his full pride in the position of being the Crown Prince of Saxony. It would have been so much simpler for the father and the personal union of the two estates if succession was... well, simpler.

Picking up a large Black Queen piece made of beautiful marble, the Emperor moved it slightly but well within her territorial boundaries on the map. He circled her in the country's plot as he eyed the white pawn on one side and the crimson castle on the other. "Decisions, decisions" Friedrich Wilhelm thought out loud as he scratched his chin peacefully, eyeing the very particular region with great intent. On the map, it read Germania.

"Georg?" the Kaiser asked, turning towards his door. Not before long, a butler of roughly the same age as himself popped in, bowing deeply in a quiet response. "Could you please remind the Prince Schwarzenberg to report developments in a more timely fashion?" he smiled.

The butler nodded almost quietly. "The Prince Schwarzenberg is presently occupied under the graceful hosting of His Serene Highness the Duke of Thuringia, Your Majesty" spoke Georg in a somewhat friendly way.

"...I see. That would be alright then" Friedrich Wilhelm frowned, and turned his attention back at his map.

The butler bowed. "Anything else, Your Majesty?"

As he was dismissed, he sighed with a hint of relief.
