Bellum ego sum. Spes ego interficiam omnes. Ego originale interfectorem. (I am War. I destroy all Hope. I am the Original Killer.)
Marcus Cato (1230-1278) - Moralitas meditato

XXI Via Victoriae
Deva Victrix

The bright daytime sun baked the off-white marble in Antonius Polonus' exquisite 14e Century villa in the heart of the city. Polonus had worked hard to get into the Senatus. Usually only the best of society were invited to join the Senatus. Polonus had paid his way into the Senatus. While this was not unheard of, the corruption that Polonus practiced would be an aghast against the civilised, technocratic values of the nation. Polonus could just imagine his purple sash being stripped from him and being sent into exile in some horrid, cold northern country. The thought of the barbarians in the North made him wrench a bit.

"Calm yourself Polonus,"
He thought to himself, "no-one will find out what you have done to better yourself."

Antonius Polonus had be been born into a relatively poor and undistinguished family in the north of the country. The youngest son of four, he was not expected to do much in life beyond work in the local manufacturing sector or continue the family farm. Though, from a young age his ambition for power, money and prestige were strong. He obtained good grades in his local Scolarum Glomarie and obtained a position in the Academiae in the local city in his area. There he fell in with the a local inventor and was named his successor and within a few months the inventor had a horrible heart attack and Polonus inherited his ideas.

That was Polonus' first murder and it was bittersweet. Finding the right poison had exhilarated him. However, he had not wished to kill the man in the first place. But he been unwilling to see the market potential in his items. The old man would have rather donated the ideas to the local Templae for the good of the State. Polonus had no choice, that was his meal ticket to the Capital and his dreams.

After his death, he did put them to market and got fabulously wealthy in the process. With wealth came power and at just the age of 26 was elected to the CP for his region on the Flavian ballot. He found he was a very successful orator and quickly rose through the ranks.

He had always wanted to be in the Senatus but he was not an expert in anything and the Senatus was for wise old men who were experts in various fields to temper the passions of the CP. The repeated no's were hard but money warmed even the coldest hearts. It was quick a stir when Polonus was invited to join as a representative of industry, given that many better candidates were passed over.

But even this was not enough...

Polonus snapped out of his daydream. Day was a very big day. He put on his smartest suit and wrapped his purple sash around his waist and called to his man-servant to prepare the car for his imminent departure.
