PRINCE FLOARIS RESTORED TO THRONE AFTER 30 YEARS OF MILITARY DICTATORSHIP
Today in Grins, Prince Floaris was restored to the Throne vacated by his father Prince Durk X who was violently overthrown in a military coup 30 years ago. Prince Floaris who was living in exile for the entirety of his life, having escaped with his mother Princess Inka at the age of 2, returned 6 months ago during the height of the "Tulip Revolution" which saw the downfall of the regime under General Henke Bootsma. The military regime came to power during a military coup, which saw Prince Durk and two of his three sons executed for trumped up charges of "treason against the state" and "abuse of power". The following 30 year regime under General Bootsma was particularly brutal, with any protests and dissent crushed by deadly force. The regime lived through the pervasive power of the Geheime Steatsplysje (Secret Police) which made Fryslân into a police state. The "Tulip Revolution" was sparked by the Fish Market Massacre in which the police open fired on hundreds of protesting mothers who were protesting over the soaring price of fish and other basic necessities. The killings lead to defections in the military and widespread protests across the nation leading up to the final protest that lead to another coup in which General Bootsma was arrested and will be tried and the restoration of constitutional monarchy under Prince Floaris. The young Prince has appointed protest leader Friso Dijkstra as interim Prime Minister until elections can be held. PM Dijkstra has stated in his first speech since being appointed Prime Minister that his first three priorities are to institute a truth and reconciliation committee to put away the crime of the past; break up the Geheime Steatsplysje and make the archives public and stabilisation of the economy in the lead up of elections.
