PRINCE FLOARIS RESTORED TO THRONE AFTER 30 YEARS OF MILITARY DICTATORSHIP
Today in Grins, Prince Floaris was restored to the Throne vacated by his father Prince Durk X who was violently overthrown in a military coup 30 years ago. Prince Floaris who was living in exile for the entirety of his life, having escaped with his mother Princess Inka at the age of 2, returned 6 months ago during the height of the "Tulip Revolution" which saw the downfall of the regime under General Henke Bootsma. The military regime came to power during a military coup, which saw Prince Durk and two of his three sons executed for trumped up charges of "treason against the state" and "abuse of power". The following 30 year regime under General Bootsma was particularly brutal, with any protests and dissent crushed by deadly force. The regime lived through the pervasive power of the Geheime Steatsplysje (Secret Police) which made Fryslân into a police state. The "Tulip Revolution" was sparked by the Fish Market Massacre in which the police open fired on hundreds of protesting mothers who were protesting over the soaring price of fish and other basic necessities. The killings lead to defections in the military and widespread protests across the nation leading up to the final protest that lead to another coup in which General Bootsma was arrested and will be tried and the restoration of constitutional monarchy under Prince Floaris. The young Prince has appointed protest leader Friso Dijkstra as interim Prime Minister until elections can be held. PM Dijkstra has stated in his first speech since being appointed Prime Minister that his first three priorities are to institute a truth and reconciliation committee to put away the crime of the past; break up the Geheime Steatsplysje and make the archives public and stabilisation of the economy in the lead up of elections.

SKH Prins Floaris, Prins fan Fryslân,

The government of His Danic Majesty wishes to express its welcome to your restoration to the Principality of Fryslân and the advent of peaceful governance in the Principality. We wish your Royal Highness success in your tasks and responsibility as the head of state.

In a similar sentiment, we express the support of this government to the interim government of your Prime Minister, Friso Dijkstra.

We understand that Fryslân is undergoing a systematic soul searching and the healing of social, political and economic wounds following three decade's of military governance and a difficult process of national reconstruction.

Danmark, a keen promoter of democracy and stability, wishes to indicate that it will gladly assist the new Prime Minister and the government of the Principality in this mission if called upon and that we are open to discussions regarding economic recovery if Fryslân so requests.

Cordial felicitations,

Hr. Henrik Westerveld

FIRST DEMOCRATIC LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS AFTER 30 YEARS OF MILITARY DICTATORSHIP

Today in Grins, Prince Floaris announced the Writ of Election for the first Legislative Elections since the Military Coup of General Bootsma was dropped. Interim Prime Minister Friso Dijkstra has announced that he will lead the Sosjaal-Liberale Partij (SLP) in the Elections. He stated in a press conference that he felt that "democratic politics must return to Fryslân after years of hardship and toil" and that he "wouldn't be [his] civic duty by being accepting only a non-political role as interim Prime Minister". The SLP has yet to publish their electoral manifesto but it is believed to push for privatisation of many nationalised companies that were nationalised under the Regime. The SLP is also expected to announce in their manifesto for increased education and innovation spending and abolishing many of the Regime-era restrictions on personal and civic liberty.

In a battle of the brothers, interim Prime Minister Friso Dijkstra's brother has been selected as list leader for the Kristen Demokratysk Appèl (KDA) which seeks to increase the role of the dissolved Protestantske Tsjerke yn Fryslân (PTF) in society and re-establish the Church as the National Church. KDA has said it respects the right to religious freedom and would allow the establishment of schools under other faiths but that the PTF should be the state faith and that the return to democracy and constitutional order should respect the “Christian nature” of the state and the role of the family in the state.

The Sosjaal-Demokratysk Partij (SDP) has selected Annigje Toering as the list leader. The SDP has called for the retention of nationalisation of industries and the reestablishment and protection of trade unions. The SDP has also called for an increase in welfare, pension and unemployment benefits and move government spending on growth. The party is also open to increased minority rights.

In the Fryske Nasjonale Partij (FNP), it selected regime loyalist Fons Zinken who was the Minister for Culture and Education under the regime of General Bootsma. The Partij, while democratic in nature, would like to see military levels maintained and the national-socialist nature of Fryslân maintained through democratic means.

Current opinion polls have the SLP and the KDA in the lead with 31,2% and 28,8% respectively. The SDP is on 19,7% and the FNP at 15,5% and remainder is between small parties that seem unlikely to reach the 5% necessary for representation.

SLP announces Party Manifesto, takes major early lead in the polls

At it's first party conference since re-founding, the Sosjaal-Liberale Partij (SLP) voted on the Party Manifesto that it will fight the election on. The biggest shocker of the Party Manifesto is the "Freedom Bill" that the Party would introduce if elected. In ominbus bill, would in one strike remove all the Bootsma-era restrictions on freedom of assembly, expression and identity. The Bill would also introduce same-sex partnerships, adoption rights for same-sex and unmarried couples, the ban on surveillance without a court order signed by a panel of three judges, entrench the right to an abortion which was banned under the Military Regime.

Political analysts have already rated the single largest policy in the Manifesto as risky but bold forcing the KDA, the closest rivals of the SLP to make a stand on potentially wedge issues. With one saying that Friso was "playing with fire, either he will win a majority or the SLP will lose the first democratic election since the Regime. He is on the top of the polls right now, not there yet for a majority but he would definitely remain as Prime Minister. I think the radical portion of the Party got to him."

Other policies in the Manifesto include: the break-up of the large state manufactures and other state enterprise with the intent to privatise stakes or entire sectors after break-up; massive increases in spending on education, universities and R&D; liberalisation of the natural gas extraction sector, liberalisation of the employment market; and the end of "onerous regulation".

The Manifesto comes off a poll released this morning showing the SLP on 40,2% with the KDA falling to 25,6% and the SDP and FNP taking a hit to 16.8% and 12,6% respectively. The rest of the margin are spread amongst small parties unlikely to reach the 5% required for representation.
