Ring! Ring! Lights and bells went off as the submarine dived. Silent running. The submarine would be rigged to minimalize sound and detection, a feat that would seem to be magnificently easy in the incredibly noisy and busy Long Sea. Of course ambitant noise is not a real defense for submarines, and instead this vessel possessed some of the best silent running of any submarine in Europe.

From west, heading east. It wasn’t known if this was a drill. Only the captain and his second knew the mission.
