Welcome to the Havnshire Chess Tournament the first-ever international tournament sanctioned by the European Chess Federation! The Havenshire Chess Tournament is an open tournament, in which any registered ECF nation may participate. Participating nations may send up to three players to this event. Nations who wish to participate in this event who have not yet registered with the ECF may still participate by registering players in the main ECF thread here:

Nations already registered with the ECF may send players to this tournament by filling out a simple signup form using the format below:

Nation Name: Saamiland
Participating Player(s): Gaaral Beavrrti, Isku Vouvtatti, Appo Gulahalanolmmos

Setting

This tournament will be held in Westhaven, the capital of Havenshire. Westhaven is the largest city in Havenshire, and the center of the nation's proletarian masses. All foreign visitors are advised to observe all local laws and to remain within authorized sections of the city.

Format

The tournament will be a single-elimination tournament of 32 players. Players will be drawn into a 32-man bracket using a random number generator. Each stage of this tournament will consist of a three-match series between opponents, with the player with the most wins advancing to the next round. In the event of a tie, a series of playoff matches will be conducted until one player wins and breaks the tie. The final match and third-place playoff will be conducted in a similar manner, but will consist of five-match series.

Signups will be open until next Friday, 19 July. All interested nations are encouraged to participate, and NPC (prop. 10) participants can easily be removed to make room for active nations who wish to join.

Scoring/RP Bonus

This tournament will be scorinated using Chessinator v0.2. This program includes a a role-play bonus. The RP bonus is intended to encourage players to write original roleplay during the tournament, in this thread. This roleplay does not have to pertain directly to the chess tournament, although it may. After each day of the tournament, those nations which roleplayed that day will be given a boost of up to 2.0 skill points, helping to improve their players performance in subsequent matches. By taking advantage of the roleplay bonus, even players with low skill levels have a chance to improve their odds of advancing in the tournament, and this is strongly encouraged. The week long period of signups will be considered one day for the purposes of determining RP bonus, although participants may roleplay more than once. The total RP bonus given to each participant will be determined based upon length, quality of writing, and originality, and I will try to be as impartial as possible when making these determinations. A nations RP bonus will be applied to all players representing that nation in the tournament.

Signup and let's have fun!

Sarmatian Chess League

The Sarmatian Chess League does not endorse these participants. Our official stance is a boycotting of this event. However, the league does not wish to impinge on the rights of individual players who express a desire to participate in a chess tournament, regardless of the league's stand. Nevertheless, any ECF scores attained by these players here will not be recognised in Swiecziema, and other severe penalties will be imposed upon their return.
