Jacobus Sauer, Secretary of state for foreign affairs, has today urged everyone to get behind the governments policy of reaching out to the international community in order to encourage trade and relations.
This news has come after it was reported by The Herald last week that national Exports were at an all time low. with the National Bank lowering interest rates for the third time this year the rate now set at 1.5%.

Unemployment particularly witihn the tribal regions around Ndebeleland and Mashonaland still urgently needs combatting.
It is hoped with sustaind foreign investment a renewell project can begin to lift these areas out of poverty and into line with the rest of the country.

SEEDTO: Summit ends, Belmont distances itself from fledgling alliance.
Jacobus Sauer Foreign Sec today returned from what he described as:

'A great pity'

Having described the South European Economic and Defense Treaty Organisation (SEEDTO) as Contributing to regional tensions and threatening to "act" against member states, Foreign Minister Jean-Jacques Villevan of Belmont then suggested that he had nothing to offer SEEDTO nations, which can only hurt Havershaws recently laid plans for Belmont to help grow the Free State's economy

A Spokesperson for the Foreign Office of the Volksraad, standing in for Mr. Sauer as he recovers from the breif meeting in belmont, stated clearly to reporters from the Herald That the Volksraad was blind and did not know what the intentions of Paris were at the moment. "But we can only assume, Villevan wants nothing more to do with us"

Other foreign investors are rumoured to be in contact with the Volksraad and it is expected the Free State will be able to establish agreements with as yet un-named foreign sources to continue investment into the growing Economy

Trouble began when three Umbazi teenagers whom had crossed into the borders of Ascalon were shot dead by prison officers during what has been described as a bid for freedom.
The Republic of Umbazi has reacted angrily to the entire affair having issued an extradition order, Umbazi has called for the bodies of the dead teenagers, The guards whom shot them and all evidence in the ongoing case to be handed over to Barani.
The international responce to the deaths of the three Umbazi citizens has been huge and Ascalon has been urged to comply with demands for some sort of investigation.
The Free State has been amongst the more moderate voices, simply wanting to restore peace and order to the continent.

To avoid confusion, we feel as if we should make some things a little clearer about the Umbazi situation. There is no case in the teenagers ordeal. Our investigation has already been completed, and the soldiers involved have been checked out and individually interviewed. So the handing over of 'evidence' is useless... because there really isn't any other than the bodies, and the pictures of the scratch marks on the guards skin. I suppose we can give them the pictures.

In the absence of any international oversight, or even verifiable evidence, the Ascaloni "investigation" can only be regarded as a botched attempt at political propaganda. The circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three Umbazi youths remain extremely suspect, and it is Ascalon's duty to prove that it is not to blame in the killing of the three.

Saying it more will not change our minds. There will be no investigations, there is sensitive information within the military prison that would take to much effort to hide from the eyes of foreigners.

Only a government which has something to hide would defend itself with such a claim.

Ascalon's investigation into its own actions is worthless, we suggest that Ascalon allow a neutral nation, like Hajr or Frescania, to investigate the situation as that is the only true way to get to the truth of what has happened.

SEEDTO Talks in Pretoria

Nations from the South European Economic and Defense Treaty Organisation (SEEDTO) have met in Pretoria to discuss a potential framework for the new alliance.
Issues such as Millitary, Finance, Communications and Structure are reported to be on the table, Although the Herald has been unable to get a copy of the exact agenda, Foreign Sec Jacobus Sauer suggested that the meeting would include a discussion with Ascalon over the Umbazi situation.

The Volksraad has expressed concern over the situation, and has expressed its wish that both Ascalon and Umbazi work together to find a solution as soon as possible.
Concern has also been expressed over the reaction of the international community, Belmont in particular whom it is now known had several lucrative mining contracts negotiated only recently which would have created jobs and and wealth in some of the Free States poorest regions.

The Volksraad is expected to deny the contracts when they come to vote on the issue next week, Telemantros a controversial economic partner has offered to invest to make up any shortfall, The Volksraad is said to be considering the offer, which would include Telemantine access to Umbazi.
Sauer has been clear in his message to Belmont which he sums up as Hopefull, the Foreign Sec has offered Belmont a chance to come to Havershaw to discuss the future.

Mendenhall: I Would meet with Terrorist leaders on tribal grounds
By Oliver Armstrong

Sir Arthur Mendenhall; the Governor General has explosively admitted that he would speak with Joseph Mumbiani and Benagula the so called Nkosi of the Matabele on Tribal Grounds.
At best it is ill advised for his excellency to be wandering around the countryside in search of tea and biccy's with some of southern Himyars most dangerous Terror chiefs and at worst this was a caculated bid to destroy the power of the Volksraad and inflame the tribes in revolt just so soon after one rebellion had been seen off.

The Volksraad has so far refused to comment on the Governor Generals comments, but the herland has learned that Prime Minister De kalk has asked to speak once again with Sir Arthur.
