The history of Hexannia as a nation starts in 1720 when the Sovereign Declaration was signed, however colonization began late 1430 by pilgrims from Sorlandeten. Seeking the freedom to worship their gods, they traveled westbound . Upon arriving on the shores of Hexannia, they were greeted by the snowy forests that make up the terrain of Eastern Hexxania. The long journey killed a number of the pilgrims. Food was scarce, most haven been eaten on the trip. The survivors made their way in the forest to search for supplies and shelter. Along the coast, a town by the name of Marieville was formed. After a few years, more and more pilgrims poured into what was called a Pagan sanctuary. Mariesville expanded from a small shanty village into a town. It was clear expansion had to begin.
A group of ten residents of Mariesville was sent outside of the forests and into the plains of the Midwest. There, they began construction on Skalheim around the year 1473. Contact was quickly made with the Haudeno people who were native to the land. "Among them were thousands all with camps of smoke pillars" an early pioneer wrote in his journal. Many years later, after Skalheim was erected, the two towns united in a loose alliance by which goods were shared. It wasn't until the Haudeno people began attacking Skalheim did the two unite fully. For the next two hundred years, small but deadly battles between the pilgrims and the Haudeno people. The fighting was mostly based in the summer and fall, in between crop season.
Around the year 1670, both sides began to grow tired of the never ending battles. The High Chief of the Haudeno people and all governing Jarls of the three towns met. A peace agreement was made where no hostilities would occur. From thereon, two more towns were constructed and by the year 1700, all five were self sufficient and self governed. However, in the year 1703, Sorlandeten began their expansion to conquer non-Nordic settlements. A congress was swiftly made where it was decided that if survival as a independent people was possible, all the towns would have to be united. This was when the Hexagon Alliance was established.
After a series of long battles and sieges, the Jarls signed the Sovereign Declaration where a president would be lead the Hexagon Alliance as a country. Hexannia was the name; the president elected was the foremost elder of the congress Melana Hojadel. The question regarding the power of the Jarls was quickly brought up and voted upon. Jarls would be able to govern their respectful city, but abide by the basic law of the nation. Smaller towns began popping up in between the cities, focusing more on agriculture. The industrial revolution in 1835 increased expansion of towns tenfold. To this day, Hexannia remains a matriarchy. Only Men get drafted in the military should war time come. Out of war, they work manual jobs and leave administration to women.
