The Nievish Socialist Party has identified four athletic systems as essential based upon perennial popularity and cultural significance to the precious islands. Each of the eight provinces are permitted to finance and field a Top League and Under League team using provincial tax expenses to total two funded teams. Each quarter or season the bottom two Top League teams (or athletes) revert to the Lower League whereas the top two Under League teams (or athletes) are promoted, and likewise county or parish systems feed up towards the Under League.
The Four Quarters of Niommonach Athletics:
Spring (the Ring Series of Boxing) (8 Man / 8 Woman Individuals)*
Summer (the Sand Series of Tennis) (8 Man / 8 Woman League)*
Autumn (the Pitch Series of Field Hockey) (8 Male / 8 Female Teams)
Winter (the Ice Series of Ice Hockey) (8 Male / 8 Female Teams)
*Individual based games often incur injuries and require substitutes from provincial reserves. Provinces are required to retain the individual athlete with the highest collective score if the province requires individual relegation or promotion. When the province does not require promotion or relegation after injury it may adopt its own decision or competition scheme.
Feeder Leagues & Associations
Participation in associations is a legal requirement in Nieveland. Volunteering towards almshouses outside of primary occupational hours can be treated the same as participating in an athletic or arts association (typically Saturday meetings). The stringent requirements of the Top & Under leagues fall away at lower levels, and often include complex regional associations of intramural leagues. Catholic Collegiate Leagues often directly feed team based sports, however the individual athletes rise and fall based upon popularity and spikes of success or failure.
