OFFICIAL INVITATION - ΕΠΙΣΗΜH ΠΡΟΣΚΛΗΣΙΣ

To the attention of the Governments of the Kingdom of Eiffelland and the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein,

Most Honorable Ladies and Gentlemen,

I believe that it is a well known fact that our nations have historically had good and peaceful relations and have, to this day, common interests. To that extent I would like to extend to Your Excellencies an invitation, by the King and Prime Minister, to a diplomatic meeting in the Ionian Confederation's Capital City, Athenai. We eagerly await your response and would like extend our best wishes.

Most Truly,
Aristotle F. Kifisodotou
Minister of Foreign Affairs

We are certainly interested in a meeting with the President and Prime Minister of the Ionian Confederacy. Currently, we are busy forming a new government, but the new government will be installed tomorrow. I will become the Chancellor again, and my next visit will be to Ionia.

The Grand Duchy of Nichtstein will of course be delighted to partake in any discussions concerning the common future of Nichtstein, Eiffelland and Ionia. We will seek to time our visit along with our Eiffellander partners in order to optimise any outcomes.

A private conversation somewhere in the Foreign Ministry of Nichtstein

"Ionikh... Einomoeponaia... sounds like a pulmonary infection! And I am not even going to try to read that thing below."

"I am not exactly sure that's how you read it..."

"Who cares! It's funny!"

"If you say so. You're the Foreign Minister."

OOC: I actually know all that. But Nichtstein will be showing comedy relief regularly.

The summit was to be held in Zappeion Hall, a large government-owned Summit Hall, right at the centre of the Ionian Confederacy's Royal National Gardens. More specifically the meeting was to take place in Zappeion's Central Atrium, a large circular room, surrounded by Ionic Pillars, covered in bright, white marble from top to bottom and decorated with meanders. At the top there was a dome, whcih let the rich light of the bright Ionian sun pour into the room, to illuminate everything. Just like most if to all examples of Ionian architecture, light, Ionic pillars and decorated marble, were the three most important elements of the structure. , waited the Ionian King, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with the rest of the Ionian delegation.

Chancellor Matthias Graf von Seydewitz liked Ionia. It was a beautiful country, both the landscape and the ancient buildings. When driving from the airport to the Zappeion Hall, he enjoyed the view, something he shared with the other members of the delegation.

The motorcades with the Eiffellandian and Nichtsteiner delegations stopped before the Zappeion Hall. The doors of the cars were opened, and the delegations stepped out to greet the Ionian King, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

OOC: Let’s presume that this all happened after the wedding in Tibur and the funeral in Dietsland. Otherwise we really have to think up a strange story about how people can be at different locations at the same time.

OOC: Sure, that would solve a lot of problems.

The Eiffellander delegation as welcomed at the door by their Ionian counterparts.
"Welcome to the Ionian Confederacy Your Excellencies." said the Priem Minister while addressing the Eiffellnaders; "How about we move inside and discuss there?"

"A most splendid proposition, Your Excellency!" Urs Unterhosen, the newly appointed Nichtsteiner Foreign Affairs Minister, agreed with his Ionian counterparts. "I for one would prefer to discuss away from the lense of that paparazzo over there," he added, pointing in some random direction. He didn't really know if there was any paparazzo in a tree anywhere, but just for the sake of making a silly joke. "Not that I really know if there's anyone there. It's just for the sake of a joke, you know."

"Well, I'm not afraid of papparazzi here. How can a group of statesmen be interesting for the readers of Bild Zeitung?" Von Seydewitz grinned. "They'll be more interested in what the Princes and Princesses are doing."

Then all people went inside, to the room where the negotiations would take place.

"Well now that we are all seated properly, Ladies and Gentlemen, how about we begin?" said the Minister of Foreign Affairs;

"The first proposal I would like to discuss with Your Excellencies is a trade and tourism agreement. As is known both Nichtstein and Eiffelland have very developed Industrial and Services sectors, something Ionia lacks. At the same time Ionia has some of the world's largest banks (as opposed to RL Greece XD) and and a large merchant fleet and along with a position suited to those attributes.

All of our countries also have robust tourism sectors and due to the friendly relations between us citizens of our countries often travel between the three.

As such I find that a trade and tourism agreement would be most beneficial for all of us, on an equal degree.

I would also like to offer your excellencies better Embassy Buildings near our capital city's Acropolis and Houses of Culture to promote your respective cultures and products in Ionian markets."

"I think a trade agreement would indeed be in all our interests," Von Seydewitz said. "At this moment, our industries use a large number of different merchant shipping companies. When we start to cooperate, your merchants will get a secure amount of work from us, and can more easily adapt to our industries' wishes. And I also like the idea of a trade and tourism agreement."

"I'm glad that you are in agreement. If our friends from Nichtstein share your views I believe we could move on to the other, more direct offer I wanted to discuss with your excellencies; That of a military alliance."

"I myself would phrase it differently. I would rather speak of a mutual defence pact than of an alliance. At least we have to present it as such to the outer world. If we are talking about a military alliance, the outer world might say: 'Ionia, Nichtstein and Eiffelland associate to dominate the region.' Then a mutual defence pact looks nicer, because then we associate to defend ourselves together. Apart from the fact that I don't consider it wise to go for dominance. Being a sleeping tiger is better on the long run," the Chancellor said.

"Having the world's largest banks is great! They make loud noises when they pop!" Urs Unterhosen laughed out loud. The Ionians would learn quickly enough that despite being a monarchy and a heir to crusading traditions of old, Nichtstein had a far more peasant feel to it, where even the good old city dwellers were often far more relaxed in their customs than, in fact, many other people throughout the world. Might explain why with an ever joking Foreign Minister the Grand Duchy's foreign politics were mostly limited to following in Eiffelland's lead.

"Culture is always good, your boys and girls can come frolic about our forests and beaches. What we could do, for example, is make easier student and tourist visas. After all, with those big banks of yours, we can hope your people won't be playing around being homeless flea-ridden illegal migrants!" Urs chuckled again as he looked at his Eiffellander counterpart looking for support in his joke. And, meeting no support and only seeing his Eiffellander counterpart roll his eyes to the ceiling and sigh in exasperation, Urs quickly came back on track. "So yeah, we should facilitate that somehow. And the mutual military defence is also good, I am sure the navy will be in favour particularly, going about joint exercises in those sunny islands of yours!"

After an awkward silence the Ionian Minister continued;

"Of course. After all Ionia cannot engage in an unjustified offensive war, due to our Declaration of Neutrality. So shall we call it the Eiffelland-Ionia-Nichstein Mutual Defence Pact? Or maybe the Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty? Our friend from Nichstein mentioned Naval Drills. As such I believe we could discuss the contents of this MDP of ours. How about Mutual Defence in case of War, obviously, an Intelligence cooperation agreement and joint Military Drills on land and sea?"

"I would indeed call it the Long Sea Mutual Defence Treaty," Von Seydewitz said. "Regarding offensive wars, I think we are on the same track. Of course defending each other will be part of our MDP, but combined military drills should not remain limited to the Navy. Also the Army and the Air Force should drill together. And I am also in favour of cooperating with regards to intelligence."

"Agreed. If our colleague from Nichtstein agrees, once more, then I believe we can settle with this agreement as it stands."
