IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT OF SIKANDARA
GRAND COUNCIL FOR DIPLOMATIC AFFAIRS

PRIVATE CORRESPONDENCE

10. June. 1955

The Imperial Government approaches its counterparts in the great capitals of Eiffelland, Nichtstein, Bourgogne, Galindia, Ivernia, Edessine Empire, Großlausitz, Längerland, and Tyarin-Sabassia to band together to ensure that the Long Sea does not spiral into lawlessness and warmongering by the forces of the communist states which straddle the coasts of the Long Sea. As it is, the two navies of Carentania and Auraria have been mobilized and the fate of the world hangs in the balance. The threat to maritime trade from all nations is severe. The threat to the stability of oil prices, even more so, as the Communist threat has now become more tangible.

We urge the above mentioned governments to take steps to create a naval task force to help keep the trade in the region moving freely. The goal of this international coalition would not be to take sides but rather to move in a way to prevent open hostilities breaking out in the Long Sea, which could envelop the world in the most horrible of wars. The goal of this coalition would be ensure that no force is able to block the passage of trade ships in the Long Sea.

In the interests of world peace, we call upon the above mentioned states to seriously consider taking part in this endeavour.

Communiqué Privée

The Free Republic of Längerland is deeply concerned about the naval posturing in the Long Sea. While we understand and respect the Sikandaran calls for a task force to ensure open passage of the seas, such a coalition could be viewed as taking a side on a security and diplomatic matter. Längerland values its neutrality greatly, which, of course, makes these types of decisions difficult. We would first like to observe how such a task force would be organised, what assets it would involve, what the rules of engagement would be, etc. If it meets our requirements, we could possibly partake. If not, there is a chance that our Admiralty could patrol the shipping routes independently of the task force, but with close communication and cooperation when deemed appropriate, pending the circumstances.

We know that our friends in Sikandara will understand our position and we look forward to hearing from the other esteemed governments included in this brief.

Also we consider the mobilisation of the Navies by Auraria and Carentania a problem. We are willing to take part in such a naval task force. We are also willing to host naval vessels from Großlausitz and Bourgogne for this purpose.

On second thought, we may have to reconsider our stance in this matter. At this moment, it may be too early for such a naval task force. We consider it better to discuss with all countries around the Long Sea so that it remains a neutral sea passage for trade vessels.
