"Executive Council Shuffle Possible in the near future" -- President

Lome, KBF - Indications yesterday emerged that President Nur Khallid might reshuffle the State Executive Council before the end of this month. The President told reporters today in his weekly news conference that he was considering, alongside leaders of his United Federation party, a possible reshuffle of the State Executive Council that would reorganize and redistribute Ministerial posts.

President Nur Khalid said his main priorities were setting up the Government to deal with tackling the economic crisis in the North of the country, public sector reform and implementing a hi-tech business strategy. He also gave a firm indication at his annual retreat with business leaders that he would not let public spending, debt and income taxes spiral out of control. "Now, the priorities are the reorganisation of the way we do business at government and departmental levels to align ourselves with economic imperatives, the further reform of our public services and the implementation of our innovation agenda."

“This idea of Executive Council reshuffle is in the hands of the President. I think the President in an interview last night, said we might have a reshuffle looking down the road but that is his right." Said Ahmed Mohamed,The Chairman of the Opposition People's Progress Party.

“ I think that is a noble idea by the President to move things forward and I hope that we can get together as a country and try in a honest fashion to solve our problem, both economic and otherwise. The President has a whole deck when he wants to reshuffle, I don’t want to even speculate and comment.”

Regional parties call for official language status for Mayan, Bornuse

Bornu, KBF -- KBF's two main regional parties have made official status for their respective languages one of the key points of their election platforms preparing for the next general election next year.

With legeslative elections now 13 months away, the Southern League and Bornu Freedom and Solidarity are calling for Timiocato to elevate Bornuse and Mayan languages to an official status at the national level.

Bornuse and Mayan are currently both recognised as official regional languages. In enacting the Language Act 2004, the Ali Ruh government (1996-2006) created a special status for regional languages that granted them official status in the areas in which they were the dominant language. The new Act did not, however, leave any provisions for promoting the two languages to an official status at the national level. President Nur Khalid, and Opposition party leader Ahmed Mohamed both expressed that they were open to a change.

His Majesty's government was pleasently surprise to hear of the movement to make Mayan more than just a regional language and supports giving it an official status at the national level in the Kanem-Bornu Federation.

Suleiman Baggio inches closer to foreign ministry as new executive council takes shape.

Lome, KBF -- Suleiman Baggio has inched closer to becoming the next Minister for foreign affairs to succeed Ahmed Jamaa. This comes in the heels of breaking news from Government Palace that a New Executive council would be named in the coming week after the President consulted with his own party and members of Parliament.

Lower Jigga MP Suleiman Baggio has a strong background in the public service and in the private sector. He moved back and forth between senior positions in the Lower Jigga public service at the Deputy Minister level and executive positions in the private sector, heading the Western Bank of Bornu in 1986 and KanBor Corporation, the Lower Jigga forestry company in 1998.

If Confirmed as the Next Foreign Minister, Suleiman will mark a huge step in his ever-rising political career having originally entered politics as a star candidate for the United Federation party in the 2002 election. When he won, Suleiman Baggio was immediately made Minister of Industry in the UFP minority government. David Emerson ran again for the UFP in the 2005 election and again won his seat.
