Almatii Central Radio | News Briefing

Good evening and thank you for tuning in to Almatii Central Radio, your best source of news from the capital, southern prefectures and the Republic at-large. The headlines...

»» The ROK Defence Force has begun a multi-tiered humanitarian operation in Boliatur relying primarily on airlift capacity from Stupetna Skyforce Base, but Ground Force troops are also on the ground to help distribute aid.

»» The minister for Transport Karakhstan warns the Senate that the newly-built Friendship Expressway to Boliatur risks destruction by military convoys. 'The road simply wasn't built to handle the constant heavy load of military trucks currently using it'.

»» Farmers clashed with members of a camel-herding nomad tribe about 70 kilometres northwest of Almatii, unusually far south for nomadic tribal routes. The farmers claimed that the camels were destroying their pastures. Local Police made a number of arrests pending further investigation.

»» Almatii United lost 4-1 to Mrysini United. Almatii's coach said the players weren't in fighting spirits but he was glad that the Boliaturans could experience 'one last moment of anything good in their lives'.

»» Leader of the Opposition Li Jia Tao, a Karakh-Yujiner, from the For a Just Karakhstan party, expressed concern on the floor of the Senate today with the Republic's military capabilities. 'We are heavily involved in Boliatur, we have an active and bloody insurgency on the border with Jurchen and we must constantly keep an eye on our border with Yujin to keep criminals at bay and ensure border incursions are halted...have we got the capacity to deal with all of this?'

Traffic Report: northern sections of the Loop Expressway are moving slowly due to an overturned lorry. The Twin-Cities Expressway between Almatii and Irelia is moving normally but slows briefly at the Orchard Road Junction in Irelia. The Southern Expressway to the Jurong Checkpoint with Yujin is at a standstill as the ROK Mounted Police investigate reports of a stolen truck full of contraband. For those of you heading to Yujin this evening you are urged to opt for train service. The roadway could remain closed for some time.

The Weather: dry and cool this evening in Almatii and the southern prefectures with some showers possible before dawn and a low of fourteen. Farther north along the Friendship Expressway to Stupetna a high westerly steppe wind is gaining force leading to temporary road closures. In Zaysan it remains clear and dry with a temperature of eleven degrees centigrade.

Stay tuned for in-depth coverage and analysis. This is Almatii Central Radio.
