La Conquista for short is one of the only international mountain biking competitions in the world, held annually every June 25 – June 28. Overall, the race consists of 400 kilometers (250 miles) of terrain over three days. The race tests some of the most skilled riders in the world by challenging them with an elevation change of approximately 8,000 meters. The race follows the original paths of some of the first Frescanian explorers to transverse the rough terrain of central Auraria. The trail takes riders through many of Auraria’s natural parks, thus the country boasts “the toughest, yet most beautiful course in the world.”
