The New Constantine

The Queen's Summer Address

​

"To all our nations allies, friends and partners, our strong and resilient people and our courageous armed forces personnel, I welcome you here today. Ever since the beginning of my reign five years ago I have given an impartial and unbiased address to the nation but this year there are 3 million less people to give that address too and I would like to use the first part of my address to congratulate the Calidian people on there new nation and to wish them all the best outside of our United Kingdom.

Now, I wish to speak of the current global tensions, nations including my own have created a new coalition against the nation of Kadikistan, to me this is troubling, as a young woman seeing many global conflicts take place I fear that more may be on the way, we must work with the Kadiki government and see what they have to tell us about rather than use them as the blame of all the worlds problems, that is why I extend a very public invite to Mr. Leninov to visit the nation so that we may further our ties rather than break them off. I also wish to address Ivernish civil war, it breaks my heart to know how so many lives can be ruined by the fighting that this war has caused, I wish to express my thorough wish for peace to come to the nation so that it's 30 million inhabitants can finally rebuild all that was lost.

Now we move on to a happier note, I would like to commend the politicians of our nation who have stayed strong throughout the turmoil this year has so far brought upon us, I wish for the best of the family of Johann Daas who's life was lost serving a cause he believed so strongly in, I also wish to thank Kristoffer Hanrach who stabilised our nation in the aftermath of the riots that broke out and then stood aside for the people to let there choice in Prime Minister be heard. And your probably wondering where the happy part is so I'll give you that now, I wish to congratulate all of our great cultural exporters who have shown the world the elegance and grace of Mehldorfian culture whilst also conveying great stories through there novels and other forms of artwork.

My final topic of this years summer address is the future of the throne within Mehldorf, earlier this year a referendum was called on the future of the monarchy however the referendum was cancelled by the constitutional courts of our nation, now I wish to grant my full support of any future referendum in the interest of democracy and prosperity. I know many will be surprised by my neutral stance on such an issue, however, it is not for me to decide the nations future but for the people.

The Wilhelmsstadt Edition Launches

Today a New National Newspaper has launched in Mehldorf it is called the Wilhelmsstadt Edition, the decision to open a new newspaper was made after months of confusion over the New Constantine newspaper and after the Board of Journalism stripped the New Constantine of it's licence over spreading perceived propaganda over the Calidian Independence issue and the Communist Party of Mehldorf. The papers Chief Editor Daniel Stein has said that the newspaper hoped to turn a page in journalism and bring much more detail and care to the media industry. The Nation will be watching as the Wilhelmsstadt Edition tries to turn a new page in journalistic reporting.

Foreign Affairs Minister Travels to Pelasgia

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has today confirmed that Minister Thomas K. Eldritch has travelled to Pelasgia for a meeting, this is the first meeting of Pelasgian and Mehldorfean Foreign Ministers since the nation introduced it's new constitution. Political commentators have said that this is big because it shows Mehldorf moving out of it's traditional friendship zone and into new relationships. One topic expected to be on the agenda is ties between Mehldorfean Himyar and the Pelasgian Empire.

Government To Offer Calidia Aid

The Government today announced plans to offer the Calidian Government Aid, the aid would involve Mehldorf sending food and water across the border as Calidia begins to grapple with the fact that there harvest is weak. The Government also plans to send money to help the government with paying the bills. A few MPs showed disdain at the plans due to the fact that the Government may eventually have to pay reparations to Calidia for mistreatment but many have said it's a step in the right directions for relations with a former member of our nation.

Nation Rallies behind Football Team

Thousands have gathered for a rally outside of the national football teams stadium in support of them. Tomorrow they will play there first friendly in the International World Cup against Nufruedan. We asked some of the rally attendees what they thought about the match and the response was varied with some calling out the Nufruedanian team and calling them cheaters with others hoping that the match would be friendly and civilised. The Prime Minister has told all Mehldorfeans attending to show the national team spirit and cheer on the country. Sports pundits are hoping that the national team will win with the game and show the world that they're a team to beat.

Church organises vigil for victims of Burgundian Plane crash

The Church is organising a mass vigil for victims of the recently downed Burgundian plane. 20 Mehldorfeans were thought to be on the plane from Bourgogne's largest airline. The government has also sent 2 Commander class frigates into the area and HMS Madeline will have sea patrol flights based off of her deck. The Priest of Wilhelmsstadt Cathedral has said that he hopes the bodies can be recovered and given a proper burial. Aboard the plane was also a Mehldorfean government official who had recently been to check on flights which patrol Calidian airspace. The Palace has yet to give a statement by the Queen but the Government has used it's actions to speak about how worried it is.

While out Government has the utmost respect for the local authorities and their right to their own internal policy, we share the sentiments echoed by other nations pertaining to the possible demolition of the historic Grand Sultan Besphmet Mosque in the United Kingdom's Himyari Territories. As the heralds of an ancient civilisation, one that has often classed with Islam, as well as a State which recently fought against Islamic extremists, we have to stress the fact that demolishing the Mosque in question would only strengthen the resolve of the radicals, as they can always find a gathering place to preach, but the destruction of a cultural icon such as the Mosque would be a call to arms for their ranks to be filled with new members.

A strategy we find more effective would be to control the funding and preaching of the Mosque, while arresting radicals, so as to promote a modern, peaceful version of Islam, dealing with native Muslim citizens as friends and not as enemies. This aside, erasing centuries' worth of history, culture and art which are physically manifested in the Mosque would be most distressing. While we stand by our conviction to honour all our agreements with the United Kingdom's Government and Her Colonial Authorities, we cannot help but express our most sincere and forceful disagreement with this decision.

Parliament Overrules Colonial Authority and stops demolition and closure of GSB Mosque

After many foreign nations decried the Colonial Authorities choice to knock down the Grand Sultan Besphmet mosque the National Parliament has overruled the them and has given the building a special protected status. The Colonial Authorities leader is said to be angered by the choice but won't interfere with the choice made by the central government. Following the authorities reckless actions many have been calling for control to be centralised in the Prime Minister and the parliament and this is said to be under serious consideration by the government. The Government has also promised to end any discrimination inside the colony a task which is going to be hard if they are going to be able to protect the colonies 28.6 million strong native populations, out of these an estimated 14.8 million are thought to be followers of Islam.

No Updates on Burgundian Crash Victims

The Government is thought to be worried after no information has been received over the Burgundian plane crash. The government is angry due to the 20+ Lauenburgish citizens thought to be on board the flight. The Lauenburgish navy is in the area however it is believed that they cannot do much without Bourgogne's lead on the issue. The families have established a fund in the victims honour which is going to go towards better safety on airliners and will be used to lobby the companies to think of safety before profits. They are also hoping to bring in a bill which will mean the government regulates the airline safety more closely.

Report on Airline Hostess' Released

Today the report on the safety of airline hostess' has been released with the group in charge of it believing more must be done to protect the workers who have been abused and treated badly. The review came after several women were murdered and raped but the issue is still ongoing with companies keeping quiet on what is really happening on their planes. Some passengers have told us that there are special 'options' for business class members which includes the hostess' essentially being used as prostitutes by the airlines. Many have denied this but Lauenburg's flag carrier Air Lauen has yet to release any information on the issue with the group claiming that they're the worst offenders.

Today, I write to you in recognition of the National Parliament’s recent decision to overrule colonial authority to stop the horrific demolition of the Grand Sultan Besphmet Mosque.​

For centuries the Jurzani have been loyal, fierce followers of the the one god, Allah. However, we feel so inclined to honor the teachings of our ancestors and the Prophet Muhammad, Praise Be Unto Him, himself. He gifted our ancestors with the values that all peoples are deserving of a place of worship. This is a core value that the Jurzani have fought, and died, to protect – not only for ourselves, but any such individual who called our lands home. In this spirit, I cannot help but feel sadness with the news of the National Parliament’s decisions to overrule the colonies.

Yes – the preservation of the Mosque is a welcomed, commendable action. However, at no point should the Mosque’s existence have come for debate. At no point should the National Parliament had had to step in. Additionally, the National Parliament did not act out of compassion for the people it oppresses, but instead acted in the interest of international standing. There is no moral high ground for colonizers, foreigners who claim the rightful land of natives for their own profit. In this respect, the National Parliament shall always carry the pain and blood of the Islamic brothers in their colony. Until the day comes when the right to self-determination comes to the people of Himyar, the actions of Laurenburg can never be commended by the Government of the Islamic Republic.

Wolfgang J. Arnaut chosen as Prime Minister after 105 Justice MPs defect to the SDP following ''embarassing'' 5 months in government

Wolfgang J. Arnaut has been elected as Prime Minister after leading Justice Party MPs defected to his party following Anders Fischer's embarassing bluffs during the past 5 months. Wolfgang's party now holds 295 seats in the 500 man parliament giving him a majority of 45. The SDP which recently joined the Promotheist Union has announced that many Ministers will remain in there positions due to the fact that they have joined the Party. "Many of the embarrassing failures have now got to be rectified by this government" said Mr. Arnaut as he left the parliament building. By embarrassments he means things such as the Oakhampton Peace Accords which essentially ceded Launeburger territory to the Kadiki government as well as it's failure following the missing Burgundian flight carrying many Launeburger nationals and not to forget the fact that it planned to give Lauenburger mainland territory to the tiny island nation of Justiza. Now comes the process of setting up stability which has once again be lost and found by the political elites.

Government announces plans to allow millions of Himyari born Christians to immigrate to the mainland

Today the Government announced that millions of Himyari Christians will be allowed to immigrate to mainland Lauenburg. The Prime Minister said that it was part of his aims to grow the mainlands population. The Government has chosen nations with low Muslim populations within the Federation to be allowed to come which has been viewed as Islamophobic by many but is something that has often been accepted. The Himyari Christians which will be moving to Lauenburg are expected to be majority white and from the 'colonies' 5.7 million strong population of people with Lauenburgish descent. More plans are awaiting release but first everything must be passed by parliament.

Foreign Affairs Minister returns from meeting with 'arrogant' Justinian Minister

Today the meeting between the Foreign Affairs Minister, Thomas K. Eldritch, and his Justinian counterpart wrapped up. The pair reportedly discussed plans for Justinian coffee farms in Lauenburgian Himyar. The Foreign Affairs Minister and his counterpart reportedly made some rather nasty comments about one another's nations and the Foreign Affairs Minister even called Justinian people arrogant according to sources. The way the meeting went has reportedly angered Lauenburgians who in a poll conducted by the Wilhelmsstadt edition are 61% in favour of ending the alliance with Justiza. As relations between the two nations falter it is yet to see what will come of the once close alliance.

Government on Alert as Saaremaa reaches Internal Settlement

Yesterday the Peoples Prometheist Union of Saaremaa reached a settlement with the Party of the Left in which the latter became the leader in a coalition. The Saaremaan King fled the country following the signing of the settlement and he has now arrived in Lauenburg. The Government expressed it's upset but said that they understand it is what's best for Saaremaa. The government has said that they are prepared for Lauenburg to take the place of Saaremaa as the foremost Prometheist power within Europe and that it will play a large part in going back on the foreign policy embarrassments of former administrations. Prime Minister Wolfgang J. Arnaut is said to be worried that Kadikistan could begin to gain more influence over the region and has said privately that he's prepared to stand up the Imperialist Marxist-Feudalist nation.

RLNS Madeline to sail to Lauenburger Himyar

Today the Royal Navy announced that the Battleship RLNS Madeline will be sailing to Lauenburger Himyar on a 'planned trip'. The ship will spend three days there before returning to the Gothic Fleet. The ship may be also attending the closure of the Lauenburgish base in Justiza which was recently negotiated. The ship will not be partaking in any military exercises whilst it is in region.There have been rising tensions in the region following the Socialist World Republics Imperialist actions. The Armed Forces have said that they will continue to stand by Lauenburgs Pelasgian and Justinian allies and that they will be there if they need them. The ship will set sail early tomorrow morning.

Now, the actions deemed Imperialist are those taken in regards to the Republic of Justiza, which by the way is Lauenburgish ally. Your nation has demanded that our allies in the Pelasgian Empire dismantle their Justinian base. The reason we view this as Imperialist is simple. Why should one nation dictate to another whether they can or can not have a base within another nation. Your clear disregard for Justinian and Pelasgian Sovereignty is the reason for such comments. I must personally express my surprise that, after adressing a Lauenburger journalist, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom would involve himself in the debate and I must wonder what importance the Lauenburger government attributes to this issue. That being noted, I want it to be known that the World Republic as defender of democracy and liberty has no intention to interfere with the freedom of press. Like our Lauenburger colleagues, we deem the freedom of press to be a fundamental part of democracy. However, it would require a vivid imagination to misconstruct public discourse on the contents of a published article as some sort of infringement upon the freedom of press and the Socialist World Republic has neither the desire nor the means to interfere with the right of The Wilhelmsstadt Edition to publish what they deem fit. Lauenburg is not a part of the World Republic and not within our jurisdiction. Yet, as much as we respect and defend this right, we perceive it as just a fundamental right that a party accused of a crime may defend itself from such accusation and surely, our Lauenburger colleagues will agree with us on this as well.

We find it more than irritating that the World Republic should see itself accused of Imperialism, when it is defending the freedom of the seas, the legality of internationally agreed upon accords, as Justiza is wishing to impose restrictions upon the international status of seas it perceives as vital to its own strategic interests and ambitions. We find the notion irritating, that Imperialism is to be defined as the usual back and forth of international diplomacy, in which powers seek to negotiate the mutual boundries of their security needs and strategic interests, rather than as the brutal colonial exploitation of chained peoples throughout Europe. Perhaps we should not be surprised, though, given Lauenburgs own status as Imperialist power that keeps the people of eastern Himyar in thralldom. Surely, however, Lauenburg can relate to the very fact that troop movements in foreign nations are not solely an issue of the nation in question, that a tool that can be used as much for defense as it can be used for aggression, may cause legitimate fears in foreign powers that need to be adressed, rather than dismissed as 'Imperialism' - or is the current buildup of Kadikistani troops in the breakaway Calidia not a source of concern for your people?

Wilhelmsstadt University celebrates opening of new Science & Technology unit

Today Wilhelmsstadt University opened up a brand new Science & Technology unit. The unit will be tasked with working on a variety of things from medicine to defence to space.

The new unit was opened as part of the Scientific Advancement program enacted by the Government in 1952. The previous Science and Technology unit was opened in 1935 and was in dire need of expansion and refurbishment which can now go ahead. The new unit will be partnered with one which is currently under construction at the Royal College in Gottenhaffen and will be tasked with working on treatments for a variety of diseases including but not limited to Cholera and smallpox. The new leader of the unit Professor Christian Guber made a speech at the opening which her majesty, Queen Madeline Elisabeta IV, also attended. He said the following stuff.

"Today is a meteoric day for science and technological advancement within our nation. This new unit is state of the art and will help Lauenburg become a global leader in science. From our very first day we will work extremely hard on ensuring that this unit is working for the taxpayers who funded it. The unit will hope to work with communities and businesses around the country to ensure that it can help everyone. We hope that everyone in the country will co-operate with us and help us to ensure that our work is a success. Thank you."

The visitors were then took on a tour around the building which is named the Arnold Viken Scientific research centre. The building will begin work on wednesday the 26th of September and will be the capital of Science in Lauenburg.

Large Lauenburgish retailers have reported massive growths in profits for the start of December as Lauenburgers prepare for christmas after a year of shocks and plenty of governments.

Christmas has always been an important time of the year for Lauenburg due to the religious nature of the country. Many see beyond this though as they call it a time for unity and peace with the hope of a better future. No matter where you are from or what you believe there is no denying that Christmas is the favourite time of the year for all Lauenburgers.

We decided to ask some excited shoppers about there thoughts on Christmas.

One woman said. "Christmas runs through your veins and excites you. After this terrible year with all sorts of things like Calidian independence and communism it is nice to have something to look forward to."

But others weren't as optimistic.

One man we asked said. "Eh Christmas. I love it but there's more pressing matters for us to care about like the economy and the increasingly dictatorial government. We shouldn't pretend everything is perfect when it is definitely not."

No matter who or where you are we hope you have a great Christmas.
