President Santino Andolini (left), Senator Carminion DiGiovanni (right)

With the November federal elections fast approaching and months of campaigning behind them, both candidates for the top job in Genoliari are now gearing up for the fight of their lives.
Current President Santino Andolini has been President, or Capo di Governo, since 2006. He has enjoyed one full term as Capo and has almost assumed victory already by his public display of machoism. But now closing in on him in a nation-wide conducted poll, Senator Carminion DiGiovanni of the Republican Bloc will definately be pushing forward and doing some heavy campaigning to bump himself up and bring the Republicans back to power in Genoliari.

President Andolini is still sticking to his platform that has made Genoliari what it has been for the last five years. Immigration, religion and of course national security are top objects to be dealt with. The President is still bent on the angle that Genoliari needs a better and less strict immigration system which will allow refugees and people from deprived backgrounds to enter the nation with little to no complete background checks. he's also convinced that public schools in the country need to abolish religious classes in order to make those who aren't Dominican Catholic feel more at ease with their surroundings. Senator DiGiovanni on the other hand believes that this defies the basic principals on what this nation was created, "We are a nation of workers, the farms, fields and the small businesses thrive here. To take away what the blue-collar worker holds dearest to his heart such as spirituality is a travesty. Until religion falls in Genoliari, religious classes must remain where they are at this present time."

With the immigration system currently in place, the topic of national defense has come up as a hot point for these elections. Many faithful to the Republicans are concerned that Andolini's not-so-stirn policy on immigrants would allow any sort of meddling group or even terrorists to enter Genoliari. "That's why we have the police force. Look, I'm not saying we will let anybody enter willy-nilly, but we have to get with the times and realise that people from the third-world deserve a better home. There will still be background checks, but not so extensive as to making the process last up to a month or more." The President said on the subject. DiGiovanni wants to see tighter borders and even more funding to naval patrol to ensure the safety of those in Genoliari. "Fiscally, we can do it. What President Andolini doesn't realise is that we now live in a world that is no longer as safe as it was when our ancestors came here. Protection is the key to our survival."

Now on the trail, President Andolini has made his way to Progressivist territory where he thinks he has the most support in the nation, Neromana. Meanwhile, DiGiovanni has settled himself in the Republican stronghold of Abbondanza. From there, both candidates will take off in their own respective ways and do some serious campaigning. From rural communitites to bigger towns and cities, the people of Genoliari everywhere will be sure to catch a glimpse of their leader or the man who may some day be Capo.

The government of Ascalon strongly agrees with Senator DiGiovanni's view on religion in school. Since Ascalon's public school system sorts children by religion and mandates at least 3 classroom prayer's per class.

To abolish religion in the students curriculum is denying them to get to know their culture and roots. Public schools can decide to teach other religions so pupils or their parents can choose, and the Holy See hs no objections to this. But ow, for a few, the majority is denied their religious education.

We are sure the voters will take this into consideration when fulfilling their duty on election day.

Genoliari's capital city of Forcuore is known for many things: the capital buildings, the time withstanding monuments and the heart of old Forcuore where the streets are paved in stone and street markets thrive. What the government and the media doesn't report on often however, is the crime which has been spreading across the nation and allegedly internationally as well.
The mafiosi, or cosa nostra, have been responsible for many of the nation's problems in the civil department as well as economically. in fact, the task forces created to try and infiltrate and crack down on the mafiosi cost the federal government millions every year. The total rises every year it seems. Today, in the upper-west side of Forcuore is a heavy mafioso neighbourhood, police where called to a garage in a local area where a body had been discovered in an automobile which has been parked and left there for nearly three days. A local who wishes to remain anonymous had this to say, "I saw two men leave the car in this garage over two or three days ago. I found it suspicious that no doors on the side of the garage were locked. It's almost as if nobody cared about it. Rather than investigating myself, I called the authorities this morning."

And sure enough, when police entered the region, blocked off the street and called in crime scene investigators, the body of alleged mafiosi captain Vitorio Ricci was found mangled and drenched in blood in the trunk which had to be proded open after a suspicious stench was emerging from the car. "Just another day in the life around here, sadly." said investigator Vito Moretti, "This was definately a hit from the mafiosi in these areas." Ricci was a part of the small-time Pappaglia clan, or "family" stationed in Forcuore. This was either a hit by the more powerful and spreading Capriani family led by well-known figure Emilio Capriani, or a hit from inside his own clan.
The Caprianis are definately feared across Genoliari because of their intimidating tacics and their drug money. Drug trafficking from in and out of Genoliari are the Capriani's main means for money, and Emilio knows how to waive his influence. Citizens of the more commercial areas of Forcuore are advised to stay in their homes and to not go out at night until the kil, lings stop. But really, when will it end?

Signores and Signoras,

The Sinhai Union wishes to reassure the Presidential Republic of Genoliari that military rule and a single party state, contrary to what popular opinion abroad may reflect, are not the goals of the Sinhai Defense Force's recent actions. The Sinhai Defense Force maintains a history of interventionist policy in order to ensure the lasting continuity of stability within Sinhai, and believed the current system of governance, lacking the executive in the form of a President, lacked the proper methods to ensure a checked and balanced system of government. Without such safety precautions, any Constitution delivered by the Legislative branch would be voted on by simply the Legislative branch. This threatened to allow the sole functioning governmental branch to empower itself at the detriment, or even destruction, of other political branches. The Sinhai Defense Forces intervention prevented such an unfortunate mishap, and the Council for Constitutional Reform has been mandated by the SDF to provide the public a timetable for comprehensive political reform which is aimed at establishing a viable and permanent balanced and fair democratic multi-party government.

Despite being embroiled in a extensive conflict, Sinhai border and coastal patrol forces continue to maintain a vigilant guard against illicit drug trafficking and production. Despite this, instability in the nation has increased illegal poppy and marijuana production in Sinhai. As a show of solidarity, Sinhai would like to work together with Genoliari in combating the global drug market; and any evidence provided by the Genoliari leading to the potential capture of drug suppliers within Sinhai will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of Sinese law. We will reciprocate this offer, should your esteemed government agree and the circumstances necessitate such an action.

Though we still see a single-party state as a very taboo solution for Sinhai, the President has decided to take your word for it. We have our own problem combatting drug trafficking in Genoliari due to the mafiosi and it be a very good way to build up relations between our nations. Perhaps cooperating in the sea seperating our countries and catching these unpatriotic thugs together would be that very step which is necessary in our modern age.

 Short but Sweet: Pres. Andolini Reacts to Recent Conflict in Belmont - PORTO SU DI COSTA The Kingdom of Belmont has been going through some tough times in Europe and within its own country. President Andolini, during a short press conference this morning on the campaign trail in Porta su di Costa, had a few comments to make once asked about the Nationalists in Belmont. "To wish any sort of act of terrorism upon any other nations shows some sign of undemocratic despotism. Genoliari knows how it feels to be led by an autocrat, and that's exactly what extreme right-wingers are. It was a firm and smart decision to have them booted from their current position and bumped down a notch. It will do Belmont some good. A beautiful country deserves a bright government." To some degree, even his opponent Senator DiGiovanni agreed with this statement all the way from Abbaio to the south of Genoliari.

 200 Layed-Off at DeLucca Oild Industria - ABBONDANZA, Layoffs, spending and dividend cuts and disappearing profits are expected in Genoliari’s energy sector, which starts reporting fourth-quarter earnings today, led by off-shore oil giant DeLucca Oil Industria stationed in Abbondanza. After years of expansions and record profits, falling energy prices will translate into the worst financial results in years, analysts said. 200 labor workers were let go over the course of the week and more layoffs across the nation from DOI are expected. While the government of Abbondanza blames these cuts and layoffs on DOI spending, others say that the troubles with the economy under the Andolini government is the main problem in the long run. The DOI board will have one thing in mind: balance sheet preservation. "That could mean dividend and distribution cuts, further capital spending cuts and layoffs," a DOI spokesperson said.

 Foreign Envoy from Batavie to meet with Pres.: FORCUORE - On nation-wide television sets and radio stations, President Andolini announced that he, along with the Ministero degli Affari Estri (Ministry of Foreign Relations) would be meeting with the Foreign Minister of Batavie some time in the very near-future. It is said that trade will be the biggest issue to be discussed on the table as well as other fronts where both Genoliari and Batavie can cooperate together. "This has been a long time coming." President Andolini said, "For so long the people of Batavie have wanted democracy. Now they have it and are exercising it very well. Finally, maybe our two nations can cooperate together economically and possibly even more." The Progressive and the Republicans both agree that this is a better move to try and spread Genoliari's world cooperation northward. "We are happy to hold this meeting and I am sure that all will go smoothly." Foreign Relations Minister Rosa Galtierri said. The Foreign Minister from Batavie is expected to get a warm welcome, all but a few peaceful protests to be expected, such as citizens who believe Batavie is still a nation based on imperialism. Police forces will be on hand where the meeting will be held in Monte di Passaggio.

 Neck-in-Neck: FORCUORE - The fall Presidential race is going by faster by the day. Both Presidential candidates are pulling their weight for the top job. President Andolini has had to take abreak from campaigning to meet with the foreign minister of Batavia Arjan van Vliet while Senator DiGiovanni has been touring smaller communities where the recent economic slump has hit the hardest. The President and the Senator are basically now neck-in-neck in the polls - the Progressive President's support is slipping while the Republican leader is gaining new ground. "This current administration has been acting irresponsible with the economy." the Senator commenetd this morning. "His laissez-faire policies will affect Genoliair for the worst in the long-run. Gouging our hardest-working citizens with higher taxes is not the way to stabalize our situation. Under a republican government, no new taxes will be introduced. If I am elected, we will release a nation-wide Economic Plan that will create jobs and bring us back to what we used to be prior to President Andolini's 5 year run." Currently, President Andolini still has a slight lead in the polls with 52% while DiGiovanni's polls show 48% support.

 Genoliari's Bid for the EDF: FORCUORE - It's been a long time coming, but has finally been set into motion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has placed an official admittance plea to join the European Defence Federation. As per the charter of the EDF, Genoliari is well-prepared to help keep peace where acts of war and other attrocities are unfortunately being committed across Europe. "We have a well-trained military and many peace keepers on board for this so far." A top commander commented on the recent outcome. Despite much public support, there have been peaceful protests in Monte di Passaggio especially where many citizens denounce the recent announcement bid to join the EDF. "I thought I lived in a nation where we didn't join organizations based on their own personal gain." One female protester stated. "We will protest this until the end."
