Making the Most of our Home Page

So, after two years (give or take) we've decided to finally begin using the NSE Homepage to welcome back returning players, present our site to newcomers a bit more professionally, and hopefully spur interest in the greater schemes of our community.

Posting the reviews we've been doing to summarize monthly/bi-monthly RP was an obvious choice for me, and I understand Xen intends to write a similar non-RP summary of the administrative side of things as he has in the past in the News & Updates forum. Some other ideas we've had include giving players questionnaires/interviews to answer, having featured posts or threads on a monthly basis, and posting RP or site related tutorials for new players.
That said, I want to turn things to the community by asking what they would like to see on our homepage ( / included)? If you have any ideas on something to write or contribute, I recommend you just do it - because it'll likely get posted - and actually doing these things usually works out better than planning or talking about it.

no, I like the digest's and all that. Xen's input would be also pleasing. I'm fairly easy going on most matters though... I trust the administration.

Honestly a return of the latest "National News" posts would be nice. We really ought to feature that more often as National News is where I'd argue 90% of all international RP takes place. Furthermore it is the easiest location for activity and should be an area of the forum given the majority of our attention seeing how it is an area of the forum where a post can take as little as 5 mins of a player's time and yet still cause massive RP implications.

I've suggested a newsticker elsewhere in the past, and as I understand it: it's not viable given the vbulletin software, or so said Xen. Hopefully that's changed.

Perhaps a narrative may be useful? Like the nutshell-pieces that Yankee/Cantignia posts but with a little more detail? Maybe, e.g. in the newspaper editorial style or like the RL journal 'Foreign Affairs' or 'Time' etc, a synopsis of World Affairs? Something like that. It could even be written by a insider - a writer, an economist, a politico, an activist etc - within one of the countries (maybe rotated between players so people get a chance of making their own stamp on the thing) giving his/her own unique twist or flavour according to their own bias, proclivities etc. Just some rough outline ideas...
