The situation in Yujin is concerning deeply Portusgalia. The long ties of Portusgalia to the Touyou continent date back to the middle ages and the fascination of the portusgalians for the exotic culture and products of that region of the world. The Yujin merchant, was a well known personage in the portusgalian harbors, and their ships other trade mark from them, and left marks on the portusgalian folk culture. This presence, led the portusgalians to seek a route in order to take control of the commerce of those products in the Western World.
The traditional Yujin authorities always regarded the portusgalians with contempt, as well has other westerners. With more or less difficulties, the portusgalian merchants have always get their hands on their products.
One of the portusgalian "weapons", this "trade war", was always products from Himyar, must of them unknown to the Touyou peoples, and in fact, Mozambia owes in part its development to the exploration of products in other to put them in circulation in Touyou, or use them has "trade coin". Porcelains, Tea, Spices, and other goods that can't be found in the Western World are the major goal of the portusgalian merchants. The government was always very aware of this, and knows this trade is good for the economy. In the past this lead to the conquest of Mellarmia, and the stablishment of the Orient Vice-Royalty, one of the greatest portusgalian achievements in the East. But things have changed...

The war in Yujin is messing up much of this trade, and the recent episodes of Piracy, are pissing off many economic agents. With the war many products aren't available in great numbers has they where in the past. And even the quality has fallen... Beishan and Mellarmia are the only good sellers in the area, but they don't have everything...

The government had studied ways to solve the subject, none are reliable... Communism is expanding in the area, other major concern, and the Imperials, even with all the threats still maintain their phlegmatic and xenophobic position towards the westerners. Supporting the Imperialists is useless, they will always contempt Portusgalia, has they always did in the past. But the Republicans are open to Portusgalia, and regard Portusgalia has possible good partner. It is a risky play, but the Government, moved by the ideals of Democracy, will not let Democracy fall in the shadows of Tyranny and Communism. So they advance tor a major support program to the republican side, and are willing to move other democracies to support the Republicans. The Queen knows about this, and agrees with the call for help.

To the terrain, to know the situation is dispatched a famous portusgalian Orientalist, Professor Sebastião de Matos Gama. He speaks fluently the languages of Yujin, and even knows all the protocols typical of the peoples of Yujin. So we won't mess up the situation, and will know how to behave before them.

Contacts in Yujin helped Professor Sebastião de Matos Gama to enter on the Republican side to meet the authorities. Has a scholar, and a enthusiast of the Yujin culture and traditions, we is not regarded with suspicion...

General Zhao Yue could not afford to be a picky man at this time. The Fuguotian movement was still establishing itself in Meishan and despite the demands of the military the various political groups demanded elections. It was a difficult time for him, but until the elections were held he was still technically the head of government and was capable of making agreements on behalf of the Republican movement. Several vehicles rolled across the dirt lot towards his headquarters, his soldiers moving to open the door and escort the dignitaries within to him as he waited on the steps.

He stepped forward with a strange gait, having sustained some hefty wounds to his right leg. The shrapnel had not all been removed though the doctors assured him the metals would not poison his body. He wasn't so certain, but he couldn't afford to argue. A platoon of men marched in the background, their marching song ringing in the distance. "Welcome Professor," Zhao Yue greeted in his native tongue, speaking a country dialect which resembled the language of the capital more closely than some others. "Please, come in. It's good to see a new face."

He personally escorted the emissary for the Portusgalian trading company into a meeting room decorated with the red, yellow and purple flags and a few works of art - what little could be salvaged from the museum of Nianxu before it burned down. The Imperials had no taste for art; Zhao Yue, on the other hand, was a man who treasured his culture. Several men entered the room with numerous small plates of snacks for the professor to eat, and the General immediately picked up the sweet rice and began to eat. "What are your proposals?" he asked between mouthfuls.

The Professor was horrified with the state of Yujin, the total war scenario, the destrution, he was thinking for his self "My God! This isn't the Yujin I knew...". He hasn't a man of war, and was afraid of the environment, although when General Zhao have brought him to the room decorated with the works of art, his eyes glow to see such pieces. That was a true candy for an Orientalist, to observe works of art, so he calmed down, and drinked a Green Tea. Always on the traditional Yujin protocol. He adressed his self to General Zhao...

Professor Sebastião de Matos Gama: Thank you for your hospitality General Zhao... Actually... I'm not of the... Orient Company...

The Professor is a Neo-Septembrist deputy in the Sovereign Congress, and was nominated by the Sovereign Congress (Portusgalian Parliament) to deal with the Republicans. Since he heard the name "Orient Company" he got upset. He despises the Orient Company, because he knows it will be a pain in the ass. While he is moved by ideals, the company is moved by money. They don't care who is power, they only care who gives them money. Other point, the Company is very influential in politics. Although it stays generally away from the politics, when it regards to Foreign Policies in Touyou, if it isn't of their approval, the Company strikes back in corrupt ways and black mails...

Professor: I see those usurious hawkers have already reached the mountains... Sometimes they amaze me how they can reach to the confines of Touyou, even in war times...

Our government is deeply concerned how things are in Yujin, and the impact of this in the Touyou region. Communism is rising in this realm, and all its adverse effects. And the Imperialists seem to live in the past, with their autistic worldview, and their contempt for Democracy is more then clear. The people of Yujin can not submit their lives to tyranny, be it from the side of the Dragon being from the side of the Reds.

My proposal is simple, to put the Republic up to date in modern warfare in order to fight this monsters back, and lead the Republic to victory. At my side is Colonel Duarte da Gama, he is my cousin, sorry about his rude manners your Excelency...He doesn't know how to speak in your languages, neither how to behave on a proper dinner...

He starts to lecturing his cousin in portusgalian...

Professor: Behave your self... Get those boots out! God damn it...

Colonel Duarte Gama: Shit Sebastião! I don't know how this protocol works... Why they take their shoes off!?

Professor: It is cultural! You are not on your Barracks! Sit down like me, and do what I do!

Colonel Duarte Gama: Is the General pissed?

Professor: No... You are lucky this man is very liberal, if it was an old guard duff you where already expelled out of here.

He addresses again his self to the General...

Professor: Sorry your excelency, I was telling my cousin how things work in here, so he won't be rude. Sorry again about is manners! He isn't doing it on purpose...

Has I was saying, my cousin here, is a Colonel in the Portusgalian Army, and is here to assist me in order to understand what do you really need to push things foward, and finally to get out of this mountains.

General, sorry about the rhetoric question, what do you need to achieve victory?

The foreign men beneath him trampled more on his cultural sensibilities with their over-sensitivity than they did with their ignorance, but Zhao Yue had been around foreigners enough to know many of them sincerely did not know better. He was glad to see that the Professor made such earnest strides towards gaining his respect - though as a warrior his respect was not easily given to those more beholden to the pen than the sword.

"Do not be so quick to draw judgement on the Hongmenghui," the General warned as the professor spoke, interrupting him between mouthfuls. "Communism in Yujin is merely a facade, they desire a strong nation free from a the grip of a lone, insane tyrant, just like I do. And for that, they have earned my respect; but do not mistake these words for those of an ally of the Hongmenghui. They merely seek to replace an Empire of One with an Empire of the Many. They don't understand how to truly revolutionize the nation."

A woman dressed in a red dress quietly served the men sitting nearby steaming hot chrysanthemum tea. Zhao Yue did not glance at the woman or give her thanks, but instead simply lifted the cup to his lips and sipped at the nearly boiling liquid. "Please, call me General Zhao... I am no 'excellency', I merely tell the revolutionary martyrs where to die."

The sardonic words bit into his own conscience even as he said them and he decided that it was time to entertain his guests questions. "In our retreat from Nianxu, we stripped the factories of their machine presses, and as such we have been able to reassemble some parts of the arsenals and begun producing our own weapons. Together with the terrain, this has been enough to keep us in the fight. The warlords around Ru'an understand that, without a twenty to one advantage, any attack on Meishan would be costly. But they also understand that we lack the numbers to take them on conventionally. It's doubtful I will be able to take on any of the petty warlords conventionally, even if I ran into money and could purchase a thousand tanks. What I need is to win the hearts of the people."

General Zhao Yue raised an eyebrow and looked at the professor for a long moment as he selected the quote to deliver to him. "'When the enemy is relaxed, toil them. When full, starve them. When settled, make them move.'" He waited to see if the professor understood his words, though in truth he did not care if the foreigners understood the sagacity of ancient Yujiner culture. "I need transportation for my men to infiltrate the coastal cities. I need materials to make bombs. And I need financing. These three things will win us the battles; it will be our place to win the people."

The professor was listening carefully...

Professor Sebastião de Matos Gama: I'm aware of that General... This communists don't "work" the same way has others do... Any way they still a threat to the future of Yujin.

The idea of " win the hearts of people" took the professor in an almost meditation, he was in complete silence, while his cousin was drinking tea, since he didn't understood a word of what they where saying. A rude thing, he served tea him self, but since the General wasn't much interested in protocol and the Professor was in a deep meditation on what to do... He simply continued. But he was in fact upset, no sugar in tea? What a strange way to drink it... But he continued...

The Professor after thinking made a statement...

Professor Sebastião de Matos Gama: Sun Tzu... The great war master you say... How about this General:

"If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected"

Have you ever think in this?

The Professor knew very well Sun Tzu, in fact it was almost the rudiments of "Orientalism", since it was a major Yujin thinker. The portusgalian military don't care much about Sun Tzu, many of them don't even know who the man is! Except for the ones in the Orient Company, their marine and navy personnel know him very well. The Professor was doing a bit of "shock treatment" to the General, in order to give him a bit of hope.

Professor: Financing, is easy... Money is a "small thing", it is easy to carry. Do you know where to spend it? If you know, thats the great deal. Bombs are easy, you make them, or we give them to you... Other easy thing...

Coastal Cities? Thats the deal dear General! You don't have a coast!! There are two problems in here... And two solutions for it!

First one. You strike the coast, as almost a last war effort, and we bring ships to help you with the things you need to make war! And them you go on your path to victory...

Second One... The least good, and not easy... The damn city-port in Sixia that is still in our possession... But I warn you of one thing, that city is an Orient Company den. The public officers in there are all bribed and bought by the company, from the Prefect to the lowest rank public servant. Remember those tacky hawkers always stand on the side who gives them good money. Has far I know those crooks, they are in a pretty good mood with Sixia, and they don't effort to loose that mood. What is your situation with Sixia? If it is good, they won't even care, and if they smell money on you, they will help. This war thing is being very good for their profits, they sell a lot of stuff via Sixia. I don't know if they deal weapons for "traditional goods" with the imperialists or even the communists. The only thing i know, is that the Yujin war is being good for them...

If we really are important for the victory of the Republicans, you have the two paths to reach the coast, the blood one or the falsehood.

The Professor cousin finnished the tea by himself... he opened the teapot, since there was no more tea he put the
teapot lid on the table... The Professor saw it...

Professor: What are you doing!?

Colonel Duarte Gama: What? This teapot is so little, i finnished it my self!

Professor: No you dumb!

The Professor puts the teapot lid back in the teapot slightly tilted.

Professor: What you have done means bad luck to them... Never put the teapot lid on the table! Dudu, that is serious! We are talking about life and death situation on this conversation with the General! Back luck in here isn't exactly our goal!

Colonel Duarte Gama: You sound like uncle Zé... always worried about manners and protocols... That thing gives bad luck!? Can I have a tea with the Imperor then? I do this and he looses the war!

Professor: Hahahaha I was more likely to you to have a tea with our Queen rather with the Emperor! And if you did... That thing would be very bad my dear friend. Besides it is the host who serves, not you... That is considered bad manners. Apologise to the General. Say "dào qiàn", and bow your head before him...

The colonel did what it was asked for...

Professor: Sorry again about his manners, he drinked all the tea, and did the Teapot lid thing...
