Scientists at HST develop particles that let you live without breathing

Today, Scientists at the Hamilton School of Technology have announced they have developed particles that can be directly injected into the blood to quickly oxygenate your bloodstream even when you cannot breathe. The groundbreaking medical breakthrough has the potential to save millions of lives. The invention, developed by HST Trauma Unit, will allow medical teams to keep patients alive for a good 15 – 30 minutes despite major respiratory failure. This allows doctors and emergency personnel to act without risking heart attack or permanent brain damage. The particles were tested on animals under critical lung failure. The particles restored the animals’ blood oxygen levels to near normal, granting the animal those precious extra minutes of life. More tests need to be done, but the particles are expected to go into use in every hospital and ambulance across the country. The particles are stored in oxygen layered lipids, a naturally occurring molecule usually used for storing energy in the body or serves in cell membranes. The particles are suspended in a liquid solution that can easily be carried by medical personnel; it carries about three to four times the oxygen of our blood cells. Solutions have failed in the past because they caused gas embolisms, however scientists have engineered around the problem. The idea for the particles came after a young girl died from lung failure as medical professionals could not stabilize her fast enough. When these particles go into the medical system, we hope that deaths that this never happen again.

President Shannon Setton prepares for Governors Summit

Every so often in Confederate politics, the President of the Confederate Congress meets with the fourteen Governors of the CFO. These meetings used to happen annually, but in recent years, they have become significantly more common. President Setton, since her inauguration in 2009, has had over twenty of these meetings, significantly more than any other President in history. This particular meeting, her twenty-first, was called with rather short notice after she decided that the nation needs to take a direction on the new developments in Wasatch as well as Danmark’s invite to the former Dictator of Wasatch. Along with Wasatch, the President is interested in discussing further security along the border as the attacks on West March have shown violence. The President reaffirmed that she doesn’t believe that the CFO is in immediate danger, but she’d rather act instead of react. According to the Constitution, the Confederate Congress has full power over foreign policy. The President speaks and acts on behalf of the Congress. Because of this, she doesn’t need to ask for the Governors’ support. President Setton stated she wants to reinforce the ideals of the Confederation and bring in the Governors on decisions dealing with the security of the nation. The summit is to occur on Monday. Earlier today, President Setton announced interest in speaking with Prime Minister Santos of Monterrey as well as expressing concern over Danmark’s invite of the former Dictator of Wasatch, Markus Boyack.

President Setton deploys troops to Salt Lake City

The first issue and the most troubling one discussed at the Governors Summit today was the increasing violence in Wasatch and an overall lack of response. The summit opened with a briefing of the situation in Salt Lake City as the recent explosions went off, signaling the violence is swelling well out of control. It was also revealed that a line of communication has been established between the CFO and Lt. Scott in Salt Lake City. The Confederate Congress has already given approval to President Setton to deploy troops to the border of Wasatch to maintain the closed border policy in an attempt to stop the spread of the violence.

The Border States of Dyberry, North Macungie, and South Macungie all stated they want further actions to be taken in order to step up security and be prepared for anything. Other states warned of the hostility the revolutionaries are showing and that if the Occidental Military was to be bolstered along the border, it would only be a matter of time before something we’d regret would happen. Debate raged over the Occidental role in the situation.

President Setton stated that for the first time in history there’s a chance to remove the dictatorship that has caused Wasatch such great pain. Setton said that not intervening to some degree would be irresponsible of the nation. After around two more hours of deliberations, President Setton left the room with the Governors to make an address to the people:

“Good Morning fellow countrymen. As we all know, the situation in Wasatch is deteriorating quickly. The shootings that have been occurring have caused unnecessary death and continued to escalate the resolve of both parties, resulting in more violence. It is known that these revolutionaries possess military grade weaponry as well as to some degree urban training.

In 1992, relations between Wasatch and us took a change for the better as the Government began lightening the policies against the black population. Slavery was a stain on this continent; it was something that needed to be dealt with immediately. We opened trade, increased our cooperation, and overall benefited both our nations after these certain liberties were granted. Well, now in 2012, we have the opportunity to be fundamental in aiding the Wasatchi people in fundamentally reshaping their nation to form one that better serves their people. It is an opportunity that I have decided to not turn down. For that reason, I am requesting that the Confederate Congress agree with my decision to deploy 1,000 Occidental troops to Salt Lake City to aid in Lt. Scott’s goal of securing the city. It is our proclamation that Lt. Scott be made a temporary leader of the Wasatchi State until such a time that a true leader can be put in place by popular support.

Our mission is spelled out and clear, we are to secure the city to allow Lt. Scott more freedom to act in Wasatch to restore stability and peace to his nation. Once that is done, the Occidental Troops will be removed from Wasatch to return home. We will be playing a support role, with this; we show the world the commitment of the CFO to world peace. Thank you.”

The 325 membered Confederate Congress, predicting that President Setton would ask for troops to be sent in, convened during the Summit to be able to deal with the President’s request once the summit ended. The President of the Confederation of Free Occidentia is also the nation’s Commander-in-Chief. Having this position, Setton can deploy troops at her own will. However, the Congress can decide whether or not to provide the funds for the President’s deployment, which ultimately leads to whether or not the troops are actually deployed.

The 20[SUP]th[/SUP] Infantry Battalion under command of Lieutenant Colonel James Anders will be deployed to Salt Lake City tomorrow, August 14, 2012.

UNITED REPUBLIC OF SYLVANIA

The United Republic condemns this future deployment of troops to Salt Lake City, it's by the authority granted to me by the Four Houses Congress and President Sander Rygaard that I must remind President Setton that Lieutenant Scott is at this very moment fighting to protect the very same oppressive government that started this conflict with it's own citizenry in the first place! This gross violation of common morality has damaged the reputation of your Confederacy with the United Republic. We urge that you cease this action immediately and reverse your course of action before your country's name becomes synonymous with Wasatchian tyranny.

Signed,
Autumn Viklund,
Director of Foreign Affairs.

The Confederacy would like to remind The United Republic that the situation in Wasatch deteriorates daily. The entire West Wing of the Senate building was destroyed by violent revolutionaries. The Confederacy has not once throughout history supported the regime in Wasatch, however with the removal of Dictator Boyack, Wasatch shows that the time of tyranny is at an end.

Instead of idly sitting by as more and more chaos erupts in Wasatch, the Confederacy is making a move to aid in the restoring of order and creating an environment in which a government can be formed by popular opinion. The Confederacy has no intentions to reinforce the tyranny that Wasatch has suffered through for so long. Never has the Confederacy announced support for Boyack and the Wasatch that we will see in the future will be one that follows the same guiding principles that all nations should: liberty, freedom, and equality.

Signed,
Richard Hoffman
Secretary of State

OFFICIAL DECLARATION

AS LAID DOWN AND APPROVED BY THE:
Office of Overseas Affairs, of the sovereign and free state and city of Arkantos
Ministry for extra-Teleucian Affairs, of the sovereign and free state and city of Seleúcia
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of the sovereign, free, and most serene state and city of Lysandria

The sovereign and free states and cities of Arkantos, Seleúcia, and Lysandria, united in perpetuity with ten others by the ancient Treaty of Abjuration (and henceforth known as "these high powers"), would now express their profound and sincere condemnation of the actions taken by President Setton. Her handling of the Wasatch issue, whilst perhaps typical and expected due to the plain dynamics of occidental international relations, are nonetheless criminal and reprehensible as demonstrating a plain disregard by the Confederation of Free Occidentia for the sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbor. The unilateral invasion and occupation of lands integral to the Wasatchan nation-state can only be considered to be a flagrant breach of the set standards of international diplomacy, wrought as they were over centuries and between hundreds of successive states. The armed handling of a charged issue by President Setton's regime is representative foremost of Free Occidentia's failure of diplomacy, wherein the state endeavored to act in a manner which favored its own interest and causes above those of the people and leadership of Wasatch itself -- above the common interests of its neighbors and the occident as a whole.

This opportunistic move by the Confederacy at the heart and capital of Wasatch itself is a blatant attempt to establish a certain suzerainty over its neighbor, wherein such would only cement the dangerous precedent which was created by the foreign establishment of the illegal "Zamosca" entity within eastern Himyar. The creation of these such private protectorates, fueled by a hateful and domineering nationalism, must never be deemed acceptable by the international community at large.

A prevailing attitude and belief in interventionism as it concerns foreign affairs is the sole greatest threat to the current order, to the present nature of international diplomacy and global domestic stability. Though certain endeavors may be undertaken under the auspices of such marvelous ideals as "liberty, freedom, and equality," it remains a fact that such foreign actions are orchestrated indeed solely from the pioneering perspective of a determined, unrealized and self-appointed hegemon.

If the Confederacy is truly devoted to these ideals they vaunt, as well as to the simple standards of international relations and diplomacy, then it will withdraw its troops from Wasatch and instead commit itself to cooperation with the legal ruling government of said nation-state as it concerns this latest crisis.
