The fleet of limousines, guard cars & motorcycles, pulled up to the building. The Nationalist Senators already disgruntled shuffled in. As they took their seats they awaited the arrival of their King, Carlos Francisco II. Cultural & societal changes had finally come to the rightist kingdom's shores. The actions taken, laws passed to quell this rolling change were concerning enough to mandate annoyance at the palace....
Roughly 15 minutes later the noises & lights outside signaled the arrival of the King's Guard. King Francisco made his way to the room. The meeting began.
Francisco sat at the head of the long oak table. "Gentlemen. Honorable Senators. It would seem there is now disagreement where there was agreement. Discord where there was harmony.........selfishness where there was patriotism."
"Your Majesty. Our selfishness? Should we not be concerned about our reelection prospects? Is laboring to prevent a leftist takeover by the Social Democratic Union for the first time in fifty years truly selfish? We attempt to quell this societal change at the expense of our shield against it? Recent internal polling says our base voters are.........unnerved." One Senator protested.
"Majesty this has been a double edged endeavor! We are in serious risk of being impaled by both ends! Decriminalizing Marijuana? Legalizing gay marriage? It's been too much! May Yahweh have mercy!" Another Senator exclaimed.
The King waited. He made sure their issues were laid bare. He then had an aide bring him a folder. In it were reports, of the latest polling data.
"Gentlemen. We now know voter enthusiasm amongst our left leaning countrymen has begun to erode. As has their hostility towards you. Along with antipathy towards my family and I. They are, for now, pacified. By eleven points. I personally assure you any decline, disapproval amongst your constituencies will be offset. Ye of little faith and memory. It was this. Or attrition. I maintain my position. You will retain yours...." The King subtly ordered....
