All Souls Sinners Sought by Millitar
Prosperitas- The successful conclusion of another nation-wide Day of the dead celebration was once again matched by its seemingly inevitable epilogue, as the early dawn of all souls day brought to light the detritus and damage done by the revelry and those who seek to exploit it.

Speaking to the public at large, the Tempestas Millitar once again reassured people that the criminality that leaks out of the barrios was once again contained swiftly, but unfortunately there were a number of unwary citizens, mostly young women, who suffered the consequences of their profligacy, and were now receiving treatment at St Maria Goretti's Ward at the Sacred Panopticon Hospital.

"The Day of the dead is a festive time, when many young people feel they can indulge their vices and allow themselves to run free without care." stated Chief Justiciar Ignaticus Solos. "We once again remind people that we can only do so much. It is up to you to guard your chastity and virtue from the prowlers of the night. If you feel you have become victim to such, we encourage you to make your way to the appropriate Ward at the Panopticon, and then give your report to one of our constables."

Although the number of this year's victims to such vile crimes is still unclear, last year's record numbers included many unwary tourists, who were niavely unprepared for the level of brutality and criminality that infests the shadier parts of even our fair capital on this decadent day.

While some groups clamour for more to be done to protect our young women, others question whether such pagan revelry is justified at all.

Angel Pox to be PREPed, Engelsphere angles for supremacy
Dulwich- The concession to allow Eiffelandian inspectors aboard their hospital ships is a remarkable and historic turn of events for the Northern and Southern Republics, who previously have maintained a long and unimpeachable degree of manifest sovereignty in all affairs at sea.

Yet, bowing to pressure from the combined voices of the other Engelsphere nations, the decision to allow the Engellexian PREP teams be assisted by supposedly neutral germanic health inspectors, ostensibly to curtail the spread of the dread Engellpox, can only be seen in its true context, as further erosion of Engellex's hegemony over the Engellic nations.

"Public health concerns are nothing more than a pretext." stated Professor Juarez of the Meridian University of San Esteban. "This is a novel approach to an old problem- the desire of oceanic nations to exercise power internationally, constrained by an absolute hegemon with no rival. In such situations, it is no wonder that the canny Cannies and the boastful Cussians would collaborate to get one over on Mother Engellia."

While containing a powerful minority of Engellic peoples, our own beloved Dominion is often not considered a part of the Engelsphere, as it is both a syncretic nation that borrows more from Occidentian and Aurarian linguistic and cultural practices, and also by history a more continental power, seeking to establish itself not as a competitor in the Thaumantic, but manifest hegemon in Southern Occidentia.

As far as our own ports and health issues go, the Port Authority of Prosperitas has been the only port to add Engellpox to a list of urgent quarantinable conditions. Given the difficulties our nation has with Typhoid, Zika, sweating sickness, malaria and Mazidic Fever*, it is little wonder that such a trifling pestillience attracts little attention on our own shores.

Farm Massacre shocks nation on Soledad Frontier!
Fort Tiwanaku-
Spiralling unrest in the Soledad-Frontier region took a turn for the worse as news broke of a horrific farmstead massacre, in which an entire family of peaceful farmers on the Mazidian side of the border were cruelly slain by masked banditos.

The porous border facing the Vaquero Free State has long been the sight of many storied raids, massacres and incursions on both sides, but many had hoped that the last thirty years of peace might finally have put the troubled border's wild frontier character firmly in the past.

"We have repeatedly called upon the Vaquero State to live up to its side of the Treaty." stated Mayor Inigo Varela in Fort Tiwanaku, the regional capital of the Soledad Frontier Region. "We are a poor region and have few enough mounted police, to patrol a vast border that spans mountains and pampas alike. A peaceful border requires good will on both sides."

The impoverished Frontier region is a segment of the much larger Great Frontier State, which is one of the 12 States that make up the Mazidian Dominion. While the Soledad Region is sometimes considered the 13th State, it has never been able to maintain the infrastructure, population or wealth needed to formalise that title, as the region has been fought over several times in the last hundred and fifty years.

Consisting mostly of hard, arid pampas and the foot-hills of the Shugu mountains, the region is mostly home to an assortment of hispanic and Europan minority ranchers, who eke out a living herding cattle on the thin grasslands.

While cattle-rustling of one kind or another is considered a regional past-time, this horrific Farmstead massacre has soured the stomachs of many on both sides, and calls for Dominion intervention have been made.

So far both the Great Frontier State and the Dominion Government have avoided comment, preferring to allow this matter to be handled by local and regional authorities, such as the Border Police and the Mayoralty of Fort Tiwanaku.

"There is no need to mobilise the state millita, let alone the army." stated Mayor Varela firmly. "But if the Vaquero Free State continues to abdicate its responsibility, we will be forced to consider tougher measures to combat this spate of wanton violence."

SLEEPING DRAGON OF CHAOS AWAKENS AGAIN IN THE EAST
Prosperitas- News of the abolition of the All-Citizens Congress in Toyou has brought grave concern to state and private interests alike, who have been making overtures to the great Post-delegationist Anti-State to the West in the Northern Thaumantic for many years now. While such news may seem of little concern to many in the public, it has awakened grave concerns that the more aggressive, global ambitions of hardline PDism may resurface, and threaten the stability of all "delegationist" entities, of which Mazidia would be a prime example.

"Post-delegationism may not seem like much of a threat to many people, but Mazidia seems to attract ideological storms from abroad. Of course, it also weathers those storms quite well. Fascism, Communism, Liberalism, all have tried to take root in the Dominion and all have failed." stated Dr Alberto Rodriguez of the University of Elizabeta. "Our research suggests that these sort of outbursts are cyclical for Touzen culture. Fortunately, our strong commercial interests should maintain a friendly relationship with the land of the rising sun."

Touzen's status as an emerging "Eastern Tiger" has often seen it compared to Mazidia and other "developing" economies, however the PD state has always far exceeded such comparisons. Renowned and feared in equal measure for their hyper-competitive and aggressive business culture, it is nonetheless a lucrative market with many opportunities.

Mazidian corporations have been keen to establish lucrative trade deals with the Anti-State, but so far have been unable to guarantee consistent agreements. It is hoped by some that with the removal of the obstructionist congress, freer access to their markets will be possible, though many also note that the obstruction was largely due to their refusal to consent to even the appearance of protectionist policies, something many Mazidian businesses insist on for their own cultural peace of mind.

"Ultimately, as with everything, we can only wait and see. If a storm is coming from the West, I am confident Occidentia will weather it, as it has time and again storms from the North, East and South." said Dr. Rodriguez confidently. "Many thought in the 80s that the Dominion would collapse against Caledonia, after all, and yet we won that war."

Two Storms to Break in the Gulf, War and Water
Prosperitas- The growing crisis in the Engellsphere over the recent decision by SocRER forces to bomb their own embassy in order to halt the spread of the so-called "engellpox" has been matched by unprecedented storm-warnings in the Gulf of Mazidia.

While the political crisis would normally see a Dominion response in the mobilisation of the Thaumantic Fleet, much of the fleet has been battered back into port by a wave of tropical storms, and, crucially, an approaching Hurricane that has been named Diamanda.

Paralysed by bad weather, the normally forth-right and vigilant Dominion Navy has been forced to abandon waters turned choppy, both by the enroachment of Engellesc forces and natural hazards.

"The Engellish will just have to sort out their problems on their own. For now, we urge all citizens to seek high ground or stay in shelter if unable to do so. Hurricane Diamanda has been confirmed to be a Force Ten, and will make landfall in 24 hours." stated Fleet Admiral Vallejo to press this morning, as rain began to drizzle.

To those unconcerned or uncaring of global political matters, the arrival of Hurricane Diamanda presents a more pressing problem. Of particular concern is wether the flood-barriers will hold in Prosperitas, the nation's capital. A storm-surge up the densely-populated River Lethe would not only affect the lives of millions, but destroy tens of thousands of valuable hectares of farm-land, crucial to the support of many livelihoods.

"Diamanda's gonna break alot of insurance banks tomorrow." quipped the sardonic Fleet Admiral. "But one thing it will not break is the barrier or the levees. Naval engineers have been working round the clock to help shore up the capital's defences."

Considered a hero of the 1984 Elysian War, Fleet Admiral Oscar Vallejo is both Head of the Prosperitas Naval Engineering Division and Commander of the Thaumantic Fleet. Like many capable, highly decorated veterans of that war, he sees no contradiction in holding such diverse posts.

"We are men of action. Defending the capital from storms is no different than keeping our seas safe from the storm of war."

Flood Barriers Failed, Capital Flooded

Prosperitas-
The people of Prosperitas awoke this dreary morning to find that over a third of the city has been flooded, with water in some places reaching to over five feet in depth. The key cause was the failure of the ageing flood barrier at the mouth of the River Lethe, which was shattered by the incredible stress of both a tidal and storm surge occurring simultaenously.

The quantity of water unleashed, both from the sea and the river, destroyed much of the Riverbanks District, aswell as flooding parts of the Maze and Commercial Districts, leaving tens of thousands of people without homes, power, or clean water.

The Augustine and Constantine Bridges have both been closed, with the Augustine bridge now perilously swamped and likely to fall. Only the Justinian Bridge on the east side remains open, but traffic is severely limited, and only emergency travel has been authorised by this route.

Speaking side by side with City Authorities, the Sun King himself addressed the people by radio from the Imperial Palace.

"Many times have we weathered and endured great storms. Many times before have we risen from the mire, and rebuilt our lives. Though all may seem lost, so long as our hearts prevail, Mazidia prevails. The storm has passed. Now we rebuild, however hard, how tiring, how long. We shall always push on."

Exact casualty figures are unknown, but it is believed that as many as 5,000 living in the Riverbanks may have perished, though storm pressure on the churchyards may have swollen the number of bodies to be counted.

Diamanda also did severe damage to other parts of the Gulf Coast, stranding thousands of tonnes of shipping, destroying the Trans-Novaurarine Railroad and inundating the Los Carlos Natural Gas power station.

Plantation damage is also extensive, and will likely effect the price of certain kinds of fruit both nationally and globally.

"The Tomatoes are gone. Its like a massacre. Red, stringy pulp floating for miles. Its horrific." said Allied Fruit Concerns CEO Archibald Costello.

"Don't even ask about the Soybeans."

The number of casualties among farm-workers and indentured labour is also uncounted, but will likely prove a high cost to their owners and employers.

Elysian Isles Devastated, Gulf Fleet Destroyer Beached

Furthering the list of destruction caused by Hurricane Diamanda, the NND Quixote, an ASW destroyer of the Gulf Fleet, was beached on the Elysian Isles, amid a trail of desolation that has cut the tiny island community in half, destroying Port Inshey and Glen Auldyn, the two largest settlements on the islands.

While possessing a strong Caledonian ethnic majority, the Isles are fiercely loyal to the Dominion, and will likely turn to the Dominion first for aid in the wake of this devastating storm. How timely such aid can be, however, is difficult to tell, with the Gulf Fleet and Merchant Marine alike reeling from the storm damage.

"Wae have always been a proud island race. We'll get on with it, Overners or no." said Mayor Manuel "Mac" Murray of Port Inshey. "When things get tough, Elysians just roll up their sleeves and get to work, like yon Sun King said."

Other Headlines:
  • Crisis in Engellex continues, as Secretary speaks out.
  • Allied Fruit Concerns likely to report significant losses this quarter, as Agricultural sector hit hard by Hurricane.
  • This week's run of Courtball games have been post-phoned, pending new venue as Prosperitas Stadium is being used to house storm refugees.

The Two Kingdoms of Jyskerige and Østveg offer a hospital ship and food aid in response to the impact of Hurricane Diamande. As per usual protocol, the work will be done in conjunction between ScanAid and the Royal Navy. We are especially keen on the full recovery of our friends in the Solar Kingdom, upon confirmation of the desire of aid, a hospital ship will be dispatched. The platform provided by ScanAid would allow for the construction of temporary housing for thousands, fresh water, and food in the form of packaged potatoes and canned fish.

Additionally injuries and other problems maybe treated upon the hospital ship should land based hospitals be overwhelmed with water damage which can result in unsanitary mold spores and mildew.

The Jysk-Austwegian people only ask that you send the word, and aid shall arrive as quickly as our hospital ship can embark from Nidaros to Mazidian waters.

Med vennlig hilsen,
Maren Tilde Hegerberg

The Mazidian Dominion would be pleased and heartened to accept all such well-meant aid. Truly, the Two Kingdoms are a generous and open people, to be among the first to respond to this disaster. We urge caution in approaching Prosperitas however, as the harbour is wrecked, and dozens of ships of all sizes and classes remain in the area. We suggest docking instead at Santa Aparecida, a smaller but still functional port city in Novo Auraria, 80 miles to the east of Prosperitas.

The Gulf and Homeshore Fleets will be happy to assist you in navigation.
