Without a doubt, the horrors committed by certain white colonists in Burgesia is remarkably disturbing. History has been unfair to nearly all dark skinned populations, from Vangala to Burgesia and every dark country in between.

Our prayers go out to the children of Burgesia, who are being denied even the bare minimum education standard, and are learning how not to treat their fellow man from those in charge of Burgesia. This Alliance, of private Živ schools, would like to donate text books, calculators, and other materials that can only be used to serve the children of Burgesia. Hard currency, as we are sure you know, can be abused if placed in to the wrong hands.

HM appoints new Governor General

His Excellency Lord Thomas Charles Spencer, 12th Earl of Cadogan.

The Free Union Government yesterday announced that the Earl of Cadogan has been appointed to replace the Duke of Grafton-Ormonde after his resignation as Governor General last month. His Grace, who was the monarch's representative in the colony for nearly eighteen years, will be sorely missed by Burgesians.

Born in 1945, Lord Cadogan spent most of his career in the army before joining the diplomatic corp in 1983. For the past twelve years he has served in numerous different consular and ambassadorial postings across Europe. His Lorship is married to Constance Spencer, the Countess of Trentham, who is a niece of a former Governor. His Excellency is expected to arrive in Henrietta to take over his new role at the start of next week.

There has been a certain degree of dissatisfaction in Burgesian political circles with the Queen's decision to appoint Cadogan to the governorship however. The Hon. Basil Faulkner MA, Black Affairs Minister has criticised the choice, pointing out that the Earl is not known for his diplomatic skill. "Cadogan has been moved across Europe so many times for a reason. He has demonstrated himself to be inept and it is an insult that he should now be made Her Majesty's representative and our head of state" said Mr Faulkner.

The opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly, Cyril Blackwood, also voiced his disapproval. Mr Blackwood pointed out that appointing an Earl was breaking with long established convention. "For the past 112 years the Governor Generalship has been filled by a high-ranking Engellish peer, a Duke or at least a Marquis. Cadogan's predecessor was second only to the monarch in the FU. To appoint a mere Earl devalues the illustrious office and suggests the mother-country is snubbing us."

Tensions between the Imperial and Colonial Governments arose recently when a request that Burgesia be permitted to pursue an independent foreign trade policy was rejected. Disquiet surrounding the new Governor is unlikely to help repair the damage done to our relationship with the Free Union. It is not known yet whether the Executive will issue a formal protest to Her Majesty Queen Charlotte about her choice.

Her Majesty's Secretary of State of the Free Union of Engellex and Blois

With regard to the announced appointment of His Excellency Lord Thomas Charles Spencer, 12th Earl of Cadogan, to Governor-General of the Free Territory of Burgesia, we believe satisfactory progress will be made and that the people at large will be satisfied with the courage Lord Cadogan will display. His tact and his genial temperament will be found of the highest service in the cultivation of a good understanding between the Free Territory and the Free Union.

We may trust Lord Cadogan not to irritate the imperial relationship unnecessarily on the subjects recently to have caused much issue.

It is a compliment to Her Majesty-Elect’s great Subjects of Burgesia that Lord Cadogan should be appointed to Governor-General, and it is firmly believed that within the fullness of time the people of the Free Territory will come to acknowledge and respect His Excellency as they did his predecessors.

BDM Condemns imperialist appointment

The Black Democracy Movement has today condemned the appointment of a whiteman from a far off country as colonial governor.

BDM Leader Alexander Mutambara said, "We demand the right of every member of the nation to democratically elect their head of state. The Bemba people do not accept this Cadogan as our ruler and will not recognise the oppresive imperialist government until a Bemba man or women holds the highest office in the land."

A protest was staged in the centre of Mutare yesterday morning as the new Governor General arrived from the unFree Union. Attended by nearly two hundred members of the BDM, protestors were prevented from marching to the harbour by armed police who prevented them leaving the square in front of the City Hall.

The Statue of Nathaniel Burgess, the Engellish colonialist who stole the land from our people and founded 'Burgesia' was attacked by the protestors, leading to the arrest of six. Four BDM members suffered serious head injuries as the police moved in to stop the vandalism.

The People's Republic of Vangala believes in immediate change to the political system of Burgesia, which continues to emphasise the supremacy of white Westerners over the native Bemba. Blatant racism in the modern age is intolerable and inexcusable. Full equality and rights to all people in Burgesia must be granted.

We extend our support to our brothers in the BDM, and wish them good fortune in overcoming a nakedly Imperialist and racialist political system, as we in Umbazi once had to, 40 years ago. We hope that the BDM will contact us if they feel they need any additional assistance.

Her Majesty's Secretary of State of the Free Union of Engellex and Blois

It is advised that the Governments, and Government agencies, of the People’s Republic of Vangala and the Republic of Umbazi to not agitate the precarious political situation within the Free Territory of Burgesia.

Such actions will not be entertained by the Free Union of Engellex and Blois.

In response to the short deterioration of order. It can only be prescribed to His Excellency the Governor-General of Burgesia and to the Burgesian Government, that authorities be directed to take special precautions within the Free Territory, in order to avoid any further attempts at disturbance, owing to the propagation of false support to the Black Democratic Movement by the Governments of Vangala and Umbazi.

If necessary, a military detachment can leave from the Free Union to reinforce authorities and assist in the Government’s efforts to take precautions against these revolutionary characters.

Racism has no place in a modern society, and no government can stand on a firm ground only if it acknowledges its own citizens the most sacred rights belonging to every man and woman on this Earth, such as that of being able to decide on their own fate as the system of democracy allows them to.

If a government does not acknowledge this, history has shown time upon time that it will fall by the fury of its own people.

As it has been echoed by many of my Yombanti, and Himyari constituants, it would only be natural that someone of these lands be appointed colonial governor. The winds of change are blowing and though we wish not to stir troubles in Himyar, we agree with the BDM.

We will keep a close eye on developments in Burgesia and urge greater representation for the native population.

However such situations should be handled with tact and diplomacy.

We are happy to assist if requested.

Office of the Premier

The Vangalan and Danish Governments should be careful not to pay too much attention to the unfounded claims of a disaffected group on the fringe of Burgesian politics. The Government in Burgesia does not oppress its black subjects, they are entitled to public protest, to vote, to sit in Parliament and to join the armed forces.

In regard to recent accusations regarding police brutality, the Burgesian Government has been informed by the Inspector-General of Police in Mutare that the BDM interpretation of events is grossly exaggerated. The Burgesian Constabulary denies any impropriety in dealing with the unrest which produced considerable damage to the historic centre of one of our oldest cities.

Brothers,

Those in Vangala, Umbazi, Cornavia and Yombuta, we thank you for your support and appreciate any aid you are willing to give. If the BDM is to bring about real democracy in this land your help is invaluable.

Together we can free the Bemba people from these oppressive Engellish and colonists.

Fourteen Miners Trapped Without Hope

Reports have reached the BDM News that between ten and fourteen Bemba workers at the largest coal mine in the country have been trapped following a shaft collapse. It appears that the company does not plan on trying to rescue them.

Yesterday as black employees at the Burges & Dixon Mining Co. pit in Hwange were clearing equipment out of a shaft due to be closed on health and safety grounds, the entrance became blocked after the collapse of one of the shaft walls.

Rumours are emerging from the pit that company management are refusing to dig out the trapped workers on the grounds of expense, despite suggestions there is a good chance they are still alive. The Burges & Dixon Mining Co has declined to comment to the BDM on the rumours, fueling speculation they are attempting to cover up the accident. Workers at the mine have informed this paper that bosses on site have been heard commenting that 'nothing valuable was left in before the collapse' and that it was due for closure and 'what does it matter if a few negros were trapped inside?'

BDM Leader Dr Alexander Mutambara intends to raise the issue in the Burgesian Legislature tomorrow and has promised the support of our movement to the miners and their families at this time of tragedy.

We are deeply troubled by the bosses comments about nothing valuable being left inside the mine. We hope that the government will force the bosses to help dig out the workers, and Ascalon is willing to aid the families of the workers or the government in it's efforts to help the workers.

We are rather alarmed by the reports in the BDM News, more so given the apparent racial element, and, whilst we are unable to verify the report's authenticity, we nonetheless strongly call upon the Burges & Dixon Mining Co. and other agencies to ensure that there are procedures for the rescue of any and all trapped workers with immediate effect now and in the future. Human life is not an expendable commodity in the face of profit margins at any time.

Alive or not, the recovery of these miners would only give their respective families peace of mind as to where the location of their loved olnes are. They must be in complete disaray and those in charge should take all the necessary steps, and then some, to ensure that their needs are met.

If there is even a chance that the miners are still alive, there is a moral responsiblity to attempt a rescue. To not even try due to the cost of the rescue operation is tantamount to murder.

If neither the Burges & Dixon Mining Co nor the government of Burgesia find themselves willing to conduct a rescue operation to save the lifes of the miners, Carentania will uphold its promise to the working class of Europe and send specialists employed by the Carentanian Steel and Copper WO. as well as specialized equipment for this task.
We ask the Burgesian government for permission to begin the solidarity mission for the miners right away.

The suspicious circumstances surrounding the accident at the Hwange coal mine raise more concerns in the People's Republic of Vangala about the entrenched racism in Burgesian society and politics. Immediate and drastic change in Burgesia is needed. The relatives of the trapped miners have the Vangalan people's sympathy.
