BLACK THAUMANTIC FORUM RETURNS TO PUÁNTENUÁ

Puántenuá is once more host to an assortment of proud Negro activists and intellectuals as the Black Thaumantic Forum reconvenes in the bustling port-city for its annual general meeting. This will be the third time Puántenuá welcomes the Black Thaumantic Forum, leaving some critics to wonder why Cathiopia's historic capital Nkalamenga has been ignored, considering its place as the cradle of one of the first great Black Himyari civilisations.

Groups and individuals from Attreyu will feature prominently in this year's general meeting of the Forum, although no formal representatives from the Attreyan government are believed to be attending the proceedings.

The Black Thaumantic Forum was established in 1931 following the efforts of Black academics and artists, members of what would later be known as the Negritad movement, to create a body to celebrate Negro culture and society across the globe. Their first conference was held in the Frescanian Green Sea Islands, with further events taking place in Frescania proper, the Aurarine Republic and later, Cathiopia.

Activities at the Black Thaumantic Forum include debates and discussions on cultural, social and political issues, as well as lectures, speeches, and occasionally, extraordinary votes on resolutions. The most recent vote concerned a motion opposing the incorporation of the Green Sea Islands into Frescania as a state territory, which was passed with overwhelming support.

Controversial Fresco-Himyari entrepreneur Alberto Esono Palacios, possessor of a number of Black business interests, has helped fund and manage this year's annual meeting, with his Black Sun Shipping Line company also coordinating travel arrangements. Alberto Esono Palacios has been accused of intimidating Black-owned businesses in his native Catalina, as well as using charitable funds for commercial gain. Some have cautioned against association with Alberto Esono Palacios until investigations are concluded. Snr Esono Palacios strongly rejects all allegations.

EBENE will be cooperating with El Opinión del Mundo Negro newspaper, incidentally owned by Snr Esono Palacios, to provide detailed coverage and analysis of the Black Thaumantic Forum and its happenings.

Bonifacio Bonogo, current Chairman of the Children of Himyar party, has confirmed he will be participating in the Black Thaumantic Forum, together with a number of other senior Party officials. However, Nagadala Mabiala, leader of the Pan-Himyarist Congress and key figure in the KiDombé movement, will not be participating.

THE 'CIVILIZED WHITE MAN MYTH' SHATTERED

This article is an abridged piece by the writer Alfonso Kassabelah revealing how the 'Civilised White Man Myth' has been destroyed by recent events

In a colour hierarchy dating back to the classical era, white has always been on top, and black has always been at the bottom. White stood for light, purity, good, and Black for darkness, impurity, evil. The noble Caucasian represents the apex of Civilization, the lowly Negro represents the nadir of Primitivism. Indeed, until the last century, the Negro was not even considered a Man, but mere chattel, to be transported across the sea for work even beneath the 'backwards' tribes-people of the New World.

[...]

Fratricidal warfare amongst the white brotherhood of nations, with violence committed in the cruelest of fashions, has satisfactorily demolished this myth of the 'Civilized White Man'. People of colour on this green and pleasant Earth now know what they have long believed to be true but unable to voice in the face of seeming White social, cultural, political and technological superiority, is indeed true: the White Man is no better than the rest of us.

In the lands of Samartia, we have witnessed the emergence and clash of two most un-Civilized ideologies: Mezhism and Communism. Reports from the frontline describe the most horrific form of warfare, chemical, being waged in abundance, with neither soldier or civilian being discriminated against. Perhaps more damning is the silence in White Europe over these atrocities.

[...]

Solaren has also received the same treatment much of Himyar has in the past century or so: continued assault for alternative practices and customs, and division between the invading powers. An ironic fate for a nation whose forefathers led the raping of Himyar in the Crusades, but a tragic one nonetheless.

[...]

The success of White Europe's colonial expansion lies in the acceptance of White superiority by the darker world. White Europe's upward trajectory of progress in all human fields lent legitimacy to such supremacist sentiments. Now White Europe appears to be entering an era of stagnation, marked by eternal warfare - much like how White anthropologists assumed the entirety of Negro history to be.

[...]

Negroes, and other non-Whites, were labelled savages with no honour for their basic warfare involving spears and arrows. But with modern white warfare involving the mass murder of thousands by distant machines, I ask you: who is the dishonourable savage now?

DEMOCRATS DEMAND ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE FOR PUÁNTENUÁ

The Democratic Party has demanded greater political representation for the port-city of Puántenuá, calling for a figure of comparable stature to the Nemavitu of Nkalamenga. However in contrast to the Nemavitu, who is currently appointed by the reigning Ntuadisi, this representative would instead be directly elected by the denizens of Puántenuá.

Puántenuá is estimated to now be the largest city of Cathiopia, having enjoyed tremendous economic fortunes, and attracting migrants not just from across our Republic, but across the Globe too.

Originally known as Punta Negra, Puántenuá historically was a collection of small settlements founded by freed slaves relocated from Frescanian colonies in the Occident. The success of these settlements attracted further members of the Black Himyari Diaspora, as well as peoples of other races, and Puántenuá is now the centre of the 'New Cathiopian' community. Its history and strong ties with the wider Frescanosphere has meant it has long been a centre of radical politics, a tradition that continues to this day.

Nemavitu Apo-Mulenge Mbuangi, speaking to Mboki ya Mbanza newspaper, expressed limited support for the Democratic Party's proposals. While recognising the growing importance of Puántenuá to Cathiopia, Nemavitu Mbuangi confessed scepticism toward the position being elected, and stressed its powers must not exceed those of his office.

Meanwhile Nemfilatu Afonso Gizenga has been open in opposition to the proposals, describing them as an attempt by the Democratic leader Iñacio Rondo to create his own "personal fiefdom", a reference to the Democratic Party's dominance of Puántenuá's local politics.

Ntuadisi Deogracias Kabila has similarly declared his opposition, stating his preference for local councils, where power has traditionally lay in Cathiopian governance, both past and present.

Nkulùntu Iñacio Rondo will introduce a discussion on the proposals in the Sena tomorrow.

NKULU ZÁ X DENOUNCES BUNDU AS A "CULT"

In a dramatic attack on the Bundu ya ntotila, Patriarch of the Cathiopian Bumósi Church Zá X described the movement as a "cult" and claimed its members worshiped the Emperor over God.

The Bundu ya ntotila enjoys the support of many in the lower clergy of the Cathiopian Bumósi Church, and a number of Ngàngà-nzambi have already criticised Nkulu Zá X for his comments.

Nkengi of Nkala-menga Pételo Mayele Ndangi a Kabata warned the Patriarch risked dividing the Church and people, and repeating the mistakes of his predecessor Nkulu Nikolá XVI.

Nkulu Nikolá XVI abdicated last year, owing to poor health. Some have suggested the Patriarch was coerced into resigning by the government due to his known sympathy for the aims of the Bundu ya ntotila.

Nkulùntu Zadio Kahungu N'kunga a Bwende, a leading figure in the Bundu ya ntotila, claimed Nkulu Zá X had "betrayed" the nation with his comments. Nkulùntu N'Kunga a Bwende further claimed the Bundu "respected" the traditions of the Bumósi Church, and opposed the Republic for its "godlessness".

The Bundu supports the reinstatement of the Cathiopian Bumósi Church as the national faith, and the reestablishment of the Cathiopian imperial throne.

‘COALITION OF FAITHFUL’ PLAN SPECIAL STATUS FOR CHRISTIAN RELIGION

As international debate continues on the role of religion in politics, a broad alliance of Cathiopian lawmakers is to introduce legislation granting Christianity constitutional recognition as the national religion. Representatives from accepted Christian denominations would also be invited to be full members of the Sena, formally ending the separation of church and state, which has been a hallmark of the Cathiopian Republic since its inception.

A truly cross-party initiative, Councillors from all major parties, as well as a number of Independents, are supporting the proposals, although at present they are unlikely to achieve the two-thirds majority in both chambers necessary to amend the Constitution.

Councillors in favour of the amendment have promised to respect and uphold the right of individuals of other faiths to follow their own traditions, and claim they only seek acknowledgement of Christianity's unique place in Cathiopian society. The majority of Cathiopians are Christian, with the Bumósi Church continuing to have the largest following, although the Tiburan Catholic Church and Protestant missionaries are always welcoming new converts.

Competition for believers has led to friction between the different Christian churches, and it is hoped the amendment, which grants full and equal recognition to all denominations, will restore a sense of fraternity to the followers of Christ.

However, despite guarantees of their freedoms, Cathiopia's non-Christian minorities have raised concerns. The amendment has particularly upset Cathiopia's ancient Jewish community, who claim to predate the arrival of Christianity in Cathiopia and retain painful memories of persecution during the Imperial period, when the Bumósi Church was the national faith. Ntungianu Chieftains and Rabbis have reportedly petitioned Ntuadisi Kabila to veto the amendment should it pass in the Grand Assembly.

Representatives from the Islamic community, and leaders of Cathiopia's numerous Occult sects, have also declared their opposition to the amendment. Both were similarly brutalised in the time of Imperial rule, with forced conversions and massacres commonplace.

Criticism has not been limited to Cathiopia's non-Christian subjects. Nkulùntu Zadio Kahungu N'kunga a Bwende, prominent member of the Bundu ya ntotila, has reiterated his Party's demand for the reinstatement of the Bumósi Church as the state religion, rejecting other denominations as “foreign impositions”.

Meanwhile the United Himyari Congregations, a coalition of so-called 'New Churches', has expressed fears of Christianity being monopolised and politicised should the amendment be accepted. 'New Churches' are frequently criticised and excluded by other more established Churches for their unorthodox customs.

Whilst the amendment is unlikely to be adopted, the Constitutionalist leadership is still rumoured to be considering an alternative, that would extend constitutional recognition to Islam and Judaism as well, considering the sizable number of Cathiopian adherents and their historical importance. Likewise, leading figures in the other Abrahamic faiths would also be invited to sit in the Sena as voting members. That an alternative is even being contemplated is demonstrative of the support for the amendment, which is believed to be popular with the electorate, which remains overwhelmingly Christian despite a relaxation of voting laws.

TRADE UNIONS' POLITICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMES ILLEGAL

The National Electoral Commission concluded its investigation into the Political Education programmes of the Trade Unions by ruling they "contravened the spirit and letter of Cathiopia's voting laws". The schemes were to intended to increase Trade Unionists' participation in elections by providing the knowledge needed to pass Voter Eligibility Tests. Potential voters are required to demonstrate basic numeracy and literacy skills, as well as a minimum understanding of Cathiopia's political system and institutions.

The schemes were referred to the National Electoral Commission by the Constitution Party, who claimed participants were being instructed to vote for candidates favourable to the Trade Unions. The Commission's investigators agreed, noting there were "explicit suggestions" and "considerable pressure" on participating workers to voter for Trade Union-affiliated candidates.

The National Union of Plantation Workers and the National Union of Miners have accepted the Commission's ruling, and are to review their Political Education programmes to ensure they comply with electoral law. Conversely, the National Rally of Woodcutters has rejected the findings of the Commission, describing them as "politically motivated", and promised to challenge the Commission in the Supreme Court.

Suffrage laws were recently relaxed following a campaign by the Democratic Party and Trade Unions. Knowledge requirements were lessened, with the History-related sections of Voter Eligibility Tests removed entirely. Tests can now be completed in Terrastanian, and greater acknowledgement is given to regional dialects. However, criteria for acceptable proof of residency remain strict. Both the Democratic Party and Trade Unions support the abolition of Voter Eligibility Tests.

The ruling by the National Electoral Commission represents another obstacle for the Trade Union movement, which is still recovering after most of its leadership was found guilty of organising the damaging riots last year. The large-scale defection of many Radical legislators to the Democratic Party has left Trade Unionists without effective political representation. Some have suggested resurrecting the failed Labour Party of the 1920s, although with the Trade Unions once more in disarray, such a move seems unlikely.

While we respect the decisions of all nations, we must take pause with of the creation of a state religion where that religion has a history of discrimination and oppression of other religious minorities. It is best for the Republic to continue its path of separation of Church vs State, which has served Cathiopia so well. We will continue to lend our support for the Jewish communities and advocate for all the religious minorities within Cathiopia.

REBEL COUNCILLORS TO INTRODUCE 'ABRAHAMIC AMENDMENT'

The role of religion in Cathiopia's politics and government has yet to be decided, with a number of rebellious Councillors planning to introduce legislation that would grant Christianity, Islam and Judaism constitutional recognition as national faiths, enabling state support. Only yesterday did the Senate reject the controversial amendment that would have granted solely Christianity favoured legal status.

The Constitution Party was rumoured to be considering a similar proposal, named the 'Abrahamic Amendment after the founding father of all three religions, should the Grand Assembly have accepted the bill naming Christianity as Cathiopia's one national and state religion.

However, following the violence in Gabu, Guana and Popó province, where the majority of Cathiopia's Muslims and Spirit-Worshippers live, many in the so-called 'Coalition of Faithful' failed to vote in favour of the bill, fearing further unrest.

Patriarch Zá X, head of the Bumósi Church, also spoke out against the bill, warning of religious strife, as did the Archbishop of Nkalamenga.

The United Himyari Congregations, an organisation representing many in the 'New Church' movement, was also critical of the bill.

The 'Abrahamic Amendment' on the other hand, enjoys the support of a number of prominent religious figures, such as the Archbishop of Puántenuá and Chief Rabbi of the Ntungianu Jewish community. It also has the support of many in the Constitution Party, as well as those from other Parties and Independents.

Neither Ntuadisi Kabila or Nemfilatu Gizenga publicly confirmed the 'Abrahamic Amendment' as possible Constitutionalist policy, and it is still likely they may reject the proposal. But recent global events, such as the Cantignian elections and troubles in Boganhem, have reportedly influenced the two leaders into new thinking on religion and politics. The 'Abrahamic Amendment' therefore may become law, once more altering Cathiopia's Constitution.

EDITORIAL: CHRISTENDOM RE-EMERGENT?

In the face of godless Communism, secular Liberalism, and idolatrous Nationalism, followers of Christ are rallying politically. Cathiopia, forever on the fringes of Christendom, seems now at the centre. But will attempts to forge a new Coalition of Christian Nations succeed, or fail?

NOT since the Crusades and the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, has Christianity been at the heart of World Affairs. The previous one hundred years has seen a divide emerge between the heavenly and temporal realms greater than the Schism that ruptured the Old Churches. State, Nation, People and Class have emerged as new objects of mass worship, with their own altars of sacrifice - the necessary bloody rituals best evinced in the recent spasms of violence that have gripped the Globe.

BUT under the leadership of the young and bloodied country of Cantignia, there have been attempts to place the teachings and principles of Christ once more at the centre of political thought and action, whether on a national or international scale. REPUBILIKA has received word that our Republic, as well as others, were specifically invited to attend the peace conference in Vesper in order to promote Christian ideals of good governance. The Cantignian Foreign Minister, a self-professed admirer of the Bumósi Church, is to also visit Nkalamenga to discuss matters of state, commerce and faith.

CATHIOPIA itself has seen a revival of Christian interests. Rogue legislators conspired to alter our Constitution so as to bestow special recognition to Christianity. The Bumósi Church, meek in secular affairs since its disestablishment, has rejuvenated its voice. New congregations in the far-flung island provinces are active agitators in minority political movements.

HISTORICALLY ignored and condemned by the rest of Christendom, present efforts to include Cathiopia in organising a Christian Coalition are welcome, and have been received as such by our leaders. However, disagreements from the past have not yet been resolved, and it is the diversity of the followers of Christ that may the undoing of current initiatives.

IN our fair lands are these divisions are most prominent. In the highlands, the Tiburan Catholic Church is still regarded with hostility. The conversion of Emperor Elunzi-a-Nzambi is considered an act of national betrayal, and the Tiburan Church's participation in the Thaumantic Slave Trade well remembered, as is the decision to declare the Bumósi Church of ‘heathen’ status. Meanwhile in the coastlands and beyond, the Bumósi Church is portrayed as domineering and intolerant.

ISLAM and Judaism also have a presence in Cathiopia, complicating the idea of Cathiopia as a Christian nation. It was these that the so-called ‘Abrahamic Amendment’ was intended to appease, a noble compromise when compared to the alternative suggested.

ABROAD, Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox have yet to truly make peace. The brutal treatment of Solaren, whose native traditions and practices have been cruelly extinguished by the occupying powers, is a reminder of the triumph of difference over commonality in Christendom.

CLOSER to home, there may be disputes that could once more exclude Cathiopia. The Fennian Union, which proclaims to place both God and Nation at the core of its politics, has been intimidating local Churches in its territory of New Fennia for their involvement in nationalist protests. Our government has registered complaints, though wishing to maintain cordial relations, but further violations of our Himyari brothers’ and sisters’ dignity will prove insufferable, and demand louder words and stronger action.

KABILA: “WE MUST LOOK BEYOND FRESCANIA”

Cathiopia seems set to abandon its traditional course in foreign policy following a landmark speech by Ntuadisi Deogracias Kabila to Grand Assembly, in which he suggested Cathiopia acted more independently on the world stage, and seek new alliances with like-minded countries.

Ntuadisi Kabila was keen to emphasise the importance of Cathiopia's special relationship with Frescania, stating the two countries were bound by a common history and destiny. He reasserted the primacy of Republican values, and stressed Cathiopia would continue to co-operate with Frescania to promote and defend democracy around the world, noting the recent contribution of Cathiopian soldiers to peacekeeping efforts in Bantyr and Monkecia.

However, Ntuadisi Kabila was quick to point to Frescania's own recent foreign policy reorientation, the so-called 'Nordic Pivot', which has seen the Frescanian military embroiled in a number of crises in Europe's Northern regions. Dozens of prominent Assembly members had previously written to the Frescanian Ambassador in Nkalamenga urging him to influence Fortaleza Real to return to its usual sphere of interest: the Thaumantic.

Frescania has since withdrawn itself from world affairs, its lawmakers wary of further interventions and more concerned with constitutional wrangling than international politicking. The absence of action and direction from Frescania in the recent Faroes Crisis, which threatens to jeopardise trans-Thaumantic shipping, is said to be one motivating factor behind Ntuadisi Kabila's speech.

Other events have also propelled Ntuadisi Kabila to take a new stand. The massacre of foreign diplomats in Touzen, during which Cathiopia's own representatives are believed to have perished, has forced Ntuadisi Kabila and the Constitutionalist leadership to reconsider Cathiopia's priorities and military capabilities. The special invitation to the peace conference in Vesper, has also encouraged a rethink of Cathiopia's positioning globally.

Whilst political instability in Auraria, Frescania's insularity and Kabila's recent declarations have led some to prophesise the end of the Frescanosphere, others are less convinced. Foreign policy experts and security analysts doubt Ntuadisi Kabila's pronouncements will lead to a fundamental shift in Cathiopia's conduct internationally, realising Cathiopia's dependence on Frescania politically, commercially and militarily.

CONTINENTAL REPUBLIC OF SYLVANIA

To Ntuadisi Kabila and the Constitutionalist leadership,

As we have told others, it is Sylvania's goal to eliminate the affect that the Faroes Crisis has upon Occidental and trans-Thaumantic sea trade both in the north and in the south. Though there are those who would have the world think of Sylvania as an imperialist bully focused on bringing all of Occidentia under its rule, this is not so. We are not a super nation with the power to protect all trade and our fleet is limited in its power. Whether it is to believed or not, Sylvania also worries of the affect that Frescania's turn away from the international sphere creates, but applauds Kabila's wish to bring Cathiopia to a position where it can act independent of Frescanian influence. Though separated by skin color, we would welcome the creation of a diplomatic dialogue between our two great republics and an increase in trade and cooperation throughout the Thaumantic theater.

The Republic of Cathiopia has no adopted position toward ownership of the Faroe Islands, and demands only the right of commercial shipping to travel unhindered is respected. We would welcome a bilateral initiative between our two nations to discuss matters not only pertaining to the Faroes Crisis, but elsewhere too.

OPINION: THE CASE FOR CATHIOPIAN EXCEPTIONALISM

So-called ‘Nationalists’ present only a negative reinterpretation of Cathiopia's long and illustrious history, deliberately misconstruing Cathiopia's interaction with the wider world as evidence of Civilisational decline

YESTERDAY’s protest outside the Fennian embassy in Nkalamenga was a true demonstration of the strength of good feeling that Cathiopians hold toward their Black brothers and sisters on mainland Himyar. The march was held in response to the informal system of racial segregation in the colony of New Fennia, which while privately maintained and upholded, has the unstated support of the Fennian central and colonial administrations, and is motivated by the mistaken belief of incompatibility between races.

WHAT is most strange about the sense of solidarity so strongly felt by Cathiopians with other Black Himyaris is that there are greater differences between us and them, than there are between Cathiopians and White Fennians. Beyond the rather superficial feature of skin colouring, we share little in common - How many Negro societies on continental Himyar have a written language? How many have an established indigenous Christian Church, indeed one older than the state Church of the Fennian Union? How many can trace their origins to a sophisticated polity formed in antiquity?

NOR has Cathiopia suffered the humiliation of colonial subjugation. Contrary to the protestations of ‘Nationalist’ demagogues, the series of treaties signed between Cathiopia and Frescania, which have since been revised, did not represent a form of foreign imperial rule, but rather an evolving relationship between two states.

MOVEMENTS and organisations such as the Children of Himyar and the Pan-Himyarist Congress were present and prominent at yesterday's events. But while claiming to be ‘Nationalists’, these groups have nothing apart from contempt for Cathiopia and its past. From Tibur to Frescania, they interpret interaction with global powers of the time as a sign of weakness. But it is our integration with the wider world, and not our ties to Himyar, that have propelled Cathiopia to greatness. Cathiopia is as much a nation of the Thaumantic as it is of Himyar.

WE must ask ourselves honestly what could have been gained, and what can be gained, from greater involvement in Himyar. Prior to their encounters with White Civilisation, few tropical Himyari societies had progressed beyond the tribal stage. It is from the lands of White Europe new ideas and opportunities emanated.

THAT natives of the territory of New Fennia cannot freely enter any establishment of their choosing is an outrage. But it is an outrage because it infringes upon the basic dignity and rights of all Men, not just Black Men. Cathiopians must look beyond the narrow confines of Race, and see Humanity for what it is: Individuals and Families. It is with our Republican form of governance, and with appropriate acknowledgement of past political traditions, that Cathiopia has achieved greatest progress. Cathiopia must stand for the Liberty of all Men, not just a few.

The people of the Socialist Confederation of Tyrrhenia wishes to present their respect to the people of Cathiopia. By observing our two histories, we can see that Cathiopia was for Himyar what Tyrrhenia was for Gallo-Germania in antiquity and vice-versa, a land which set up the trends, with sophisticated societies and creeds that go back even before the forming of the countries which neighbor us. Because of this, the people of Tyrrhenia wishes to have a lasting friendship with the people of Cathiopia, as there is no real difference in us other than the superficial skin tone, a thing which does not matter, even the goals of our people being the same.

We hope that one day, the people of Himyar will have the chance to live in freedom in a modern society, far away from the hands of colonizers who say that they come to civilize. We hope that in one day, all humans could live in peace, friendship and respect, regardless of their skin or religion, a thing that we are so happy to see it happening in Cathiopia.

Signed,
Loukas Lambrakis
Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Confederation of Tyrrhenia

HOMOSEXUAL DEN DISCOVERED IN PUÁNTENUÁ

A building used for immoral sexual purposes has been forcibly closed by Watchmen in the city of Puántenuá. Watchers arrested an undisclosed number of men present at the site during time of raiding. Reports from local citizens suggest some of the detained may be of foreign origin.

The building, located close to the port where many foreign ships visit, has been the centre of salacious rumours for some time according to nearby residents. Men of differing ages and skin colour would be seen at unusual hours.

The Watch-guard eventually intervened after repeated complaints of strange noises and unusual behaviour. Large quantities of alcohol was seized at the scene, and later drained publicly by the guardsmen.

Medical experts from abroad have proposed classifying homosexuality as a mental illness. Scientists and doctors in Cathiopia have demanded more evidence and further research.

Recently, Councillor Manwele Kendi was criticised severely by political and religious leaders after proposing Cathiopia re-evaluate her sodomy laws in light of new developments. Councillor Kendi, of the Democratic Party, represents a constituency near Puántenuá.

Those arrested will be prosecuted under public decency laws. Officers of the National Watch have reassured Cathiopians incidents of immoral sexual behaviour, especially in areas of public interest, are rare.

TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT SEEKS SUCCESS IN PUÁNTENUÁ

Activists concerned by the social, moral and physical harm caused by the consumption of alcohol are to expand their campaign to the port-city of Puántenuá. Foreign alcoholic beverages are increasingly popular with the younger and wealthier residents of Puántenuá, and local press are reporting ever more incidents of public drunkenness. Alcohol intoxication has also been associated with other illegal and immoral activity, and a large number of alcoholic drinks were destroyed following a recent raid on a suspected den of sin in Puántenuá.

Alcohol prohibitionists are to petition Councillors and Senators representing constituencies in and around Puántenuá to support favourable legislation in the Grand Assembly, and hold public demonstrations and lectures condemning the sale and use of alcohol. Previous marches have been marred by disorder, with liquor store and drinking establishments having been looted.

Cathiopia's 'Temperance movement' has been inspired by the efforts and successes of anti-alcohol activists elsewhere, most prominently Cantignia and the Fennian Union. A broad and uneasy coalition, the 'Temperance movement' includes Islamic and Christian preachers, tribal chieftains and Nationalist politicians. Many of the different advocates are in open disagreement, but their separate campaigns have yielded political consequences.

Gabu Province presently has no public or commercial drinking spaces. The sale and consumption of alcohol is not illegal, but prohibition is socially enforced, with the Muslim majority of the population adhering to Islamic restrictions. National Republican Guardsmen stationed in the province have been criticised for drinking off-duty, and accused of harassing local women.

The purchase of alcohol is also to be restricted in remote areas. This follows a number of cases where local Militiamen abused their positions of authority whilst under the influence of alcohol, and committing typically violent offences.

EDITORIAL: A RED TIDE RISING

From the victory of revolutionaries in Vangala, to the uprising in the Yujiner city of Liangiang, Europe's established order faces a renewed threat from Communism. The Civilized World must stand firm.

THE ORIENT has once more provoked the intense curiosity and fascination of the West with a series of seemingly unexpected and deadly exciting events. The bloody Vangalan Civil War ended only late last year, and the new Communist regime has been consolidating its rule ever since. The Revolution now appears to be spreading eastwards, with the Empire of Yujin gripped by a dramatic uprising in the port-city of Liangiang, following a most murderous incident that provoked international outrage. A new war has been declared, adding to the lamentably long list of conflicts to blight this planet in recent times, with Yujin assaulting Vangala in retribution for Vangalan support for the Yujiner rebels.

SINCE Carentania's invasion of southern Solaren in the great conflagration of the mid-century, the socialist bloc of nations has gone from strength to strength in geopolitical affairs, and now commands considerable standing on the world stage. Kyiv, the great factory, has been eagerly supplying revolutionaries across the globe. Havenshire has become a bolder actor as its traditional rival Breotonia engages in inward navel-gazing, despairing at the destruction of its prized international maritime and financial networks by ongoing warfare. Tyrrhenia subtly promotes its benevolent oligarchy as a democratic alternative. Communism now poses for the first time since the first Revolutions of the early 20th century a serious threat to that true system of liberty: Capitalism.

FRESCANIA, leader of the Free and Civilized World, is meanwhile otherwise concerned with the defence of Republicanism in the unforgiving lands of the North. Its true focus should be on the Red Danger. Frescania shares mainland Himyar with Carentania, and the two powers have co-operated when circumstances have dictated the necessity of an alliance of convenience. Fortaleza Real must however recognise Carentia's hegemonic desires, and move swiftly to contain them. Carentania's seizure of southern Solaren grants the Worker's Republic an opportunity to exert pressure when desired on that greatest of trade routes: the Long Sea.

VANGALA has demonstrated the weakness of emergent nation-states. It was left woefully under-prepared for the challenges it faced by the exiting Franconian colonial authorities, its army inadequately equipped to effectively counter the raging Communist insurgency. Vangala, at the very least, should serve as a warning to those rushing to grant independence to ill-suited peoples, whose political naivety may be exploited by movements hostile to freedom. It is unlikely the Empire of Yujin, wracked by internal crises, will be able to dislodge the new Communist regime, who will remain a menace to regional security and stability.

CATHIOPA faces its challenges with Communism and other Populisms. Communist activists have been been implicated in organising illegal random strikes, disrupting production at numerous plantations and mines at a time when Cathiopa's economy is already weakened by violent disruptions in global trade. A vigorous assertion of our Republican values, both at home and abroad, is required to truly counter-act the sinister Red rise.

OPINION: THE FREE BLACK MAN'S BURDEN

With the passing of Easter weekend, we are reminded of the sacrifices of Our Saviour for the good of mankind. We, as Free Black Men, too must make sacrifices for the benefit of our captive brethren.

DURING the nineteenth century, many a white European writer described with great anguish the weight of their task in 'educating' and 'civilising' their colonial subjects. They named such sufferance the 'White Man's Burden'. In more recent years, political philosophers from the fellow island nation of Touzen have articulated the pressure on liberated individuals to to free others still shackled - in a conscious subversion of the aforementioned imperialist term, they called it the 'Free Man's Burden'. In this editorial, I propose a new term - the 'Free Black Man's Burden'.

'THE FREE BLACK MAN'S BURDEN' describes the unique task given to emancipated men of Negro origin to free their enslaved brethren - whether that is enslaved by the tyranny of primitivism, a dictatorial government or a lingering system of human bondage. The burden felt by Free Black Men, and I include all Cathiopans, graced by a Republican form of governance, in this political bracket, to free their less fortunate brethren is immense. The few men of darkened skin who can truly describe themselves as free in both mind and body have bucked a trend in history that has seen men of colour, especially men of darkest of colours, brow-beaten and down-trodden by lighter-skinned men who have long considered themselves to be superior. The Free Black Man's brothers and sisters remain in this miserable situation today.

CHRIST, OUR SAVIOUR, gave the ultimate sacrifice, his life, to free mankind of sin. Today, too few remain ready to give the ultimate sacrifice on the altar of liberty for the freedom of their fellow man. Frescania, that majestic imperium of democracy, remains concerned with minor affairs in far-away lands that do not result in liberation but bloody compromises leaving unfortunate peoples under the yoke of that most outdated form of government: Monarchy.

WHAT we fear is that Cathiopa, the First Black Republic, may now shrug the burden of Free Black Men, and not do what is necessary for the liberation of our kindred kind on continental Himyar.

SENATORS SEEK CLARIFICATION ON MONKECIA

The Government has been pressed by Senators of all affiliations to clarify the exact purpose of Cathiopia's involvement in peacekeeping operations in Monkecia, following the recent successes of socialist revolutionaries in the country, who have just captured the cities of Port Troy and Close'ath.

Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the Army's 1st Division have been stationed in Monkecia's eastern seaboard for several months now, as part of a joint peacekeeping venture with Andaluz, Auraria and Frescania. The United Expeditionary Force is currently active in the port-cities of Calla, Douglas and Flynt, defending foreign and native civilians. These three settlements are now the site of extensive refugee camps, with hundreds of thousands fleeing the brutal violence of the civil war.

Senators now fear Cathiopian servicemen will soon be targeted by rebels, and potentially by government forces too. Officially, the United Expeditionary Force is politically impartial, favouring neither the rebels or Engellexic-backed regime.

There is division over which strategy is best to pursue. A number of Independent and Nationalist Senators are demanding the end of Cathiopian participation in peacekeeping efforts. On the other hand, some Constitutionalist and Democratic Senators are advocating greater intervention, arguing for peacekeepers to enforce a ceasefire between rebel and regime forces. Privately, a few are said to be even contemplating supporting the Monkecian government.

President Deogracias Kabila has promised to consult with allies before giving a formal statement to the Senate. Political unrest in Auraria has complicated relations between the peacekeeping powers. Cathiopia has yet to publicly declare support for a faction, instead insisting on an immediate cessation to conflict and dialogue between all parties.

Statement to Cathiopia

The Monkecian Free Army and the Rebel Corp is currently liberating Monkecia from an evil, imposed regime led by an invented Prime Minister. In the six years of fighting, the Free People have been thankful for the support offered and assistance provided to the civilians whose plight under the regime is unimaginable. Therefore, I can confirm that no foreign forces, soldiers or non-governmental organisations will be targeted or hindered in any way, on condition that such forces and organisations stay entirely neutral in the conflict. Once the war is over and the people are their own masters once again, I shall discuss further how our international friends can further work with the country to promote a peaceful and prosperous future for all.

Signed
Antonius V. Ffyllos
