Manuel Vargas Gómez: "Tarusan arrogance and imperialism nearly took an Ebrian life"

President of the Government, Señor Manuel Vargas Gómez has condemned the Tarusan war and the transformation of the Buenaventura Bay, an important transportation channel of the Meridian Union into a war zone, in the aftermath of a patrol ship sinking after it hit a naval mine.

Much of Ebria has been shocked by how the Tarusan regime has set up the mine field. Naval activity and the conflict have been known to take place, and the existance of a blockade of Csengia has been seen by many as a fait acompli, but the existance of a mine field so much to the south that it is expected to go south of the Scharmbeck-Amerida axis, has been a shock for many. The government has applauded the strong stance of the Federation of Westernesse in this and also thanked the Kingdom of Pelasgia for its support.

"We can choose to be naive and accept what Kremlyov states, or be realistic. The existance of the minefield so much to the south as much as it does not violate any law of the EF and of maritime transit... not that Tarusa ever cared of them... is not about blockading Csengina, but also about being a nuissance to CETO, which also includes Meridian Union nations such as Rheinbund and Radilo. I cannot see this but a further step in the escalation of the tension and rivalry between Tarusa and CETO and I must condemn this, as Ebrian lives are at risk. It is Tarusan arrogance which nearly took an Ebrian life yesterday and we cannot let this continue. If, the area is a conflict zone, we condemn this unnecessary expansion of the AO, whose size is just for the sake make problems for others too. The regime in Kremlyov knows that the Buenaventura Bay is used by many nations which are politically hostile to them and thus they seem to not care if there are... alleged accidents happening. We thoroughly condemn this and should they not want to have Ebria become one of those nations too, we request a reduction of the area of operations," stated señor Manuel Vargas Gomez.

As much as the news of the sinking has been received with shock by the whole of Ebria, there were some which support the Tarusan absolutism and created twisted narratives regarding it. Alfonists, followers of the eponimous branch of the Sanchez dynasty, are mostly to be found in the Partida Restoradora, a conservative party and many have renounced their calls of pushing the Alfonsist pretender to the throne, especially as the branch itself has announced that it will not claim the throne anymore in 1931, but even so, there are some radicals which see the Tarusan autocracy as the solution for a better Ebria. Adan Gerard Salazar, the chairman of such an Alfonsist circle, has called out CETO and the Konstantinists for mining the Buenaventura Bay, with the scope of either attacking the Tarusan ships which blockade Csengia or to spark a war between CETO and Tarusa. Much of his takes have been seen as being delirious or part of ludicrous conspiracy theories.

CSENGIAN PATRIOTS MEET IN AMÉRIDA:
Dániel Kovács, an ex member of the Pannonian parliament, from before the collapse, has proclaimed the creation of a Csengian Patriotic Council, which has gained the support of much of the Csengian diaspora in Ebria and the greater Meridian region, where most of the refugees, have disipated, numbering about 1.5 million. In a meeting last night, the Csengian Patriotic Council has proclaimed itself a government in exile of Csengia, proclaiming the existance of the Independent State of Csengia, as a parallel government to the Kispest regime led by Queen Erszebet Szabina and the Tarusan pretender Konstantin Kiselev. Señor Kovács called for Csengians to boycott the Csengian Kingdom and turn their backs on its institutions, calling the current Tarusan Civil War a genocide of the Csengians by a collaborationist government. "It is shameful to see my people dying only to be used as a springboard for a Tarusan tyrant to take over his homeland. We ask the nations of the world to see this as a Tarusan genocide on our people, perpetrated by both the pretender Konstantin, but also the Kremlyov regime and the imposed queen, Erszebet Szabina," stated Dániel Kovács. Csengia has been known as a hermit kingdom since the fall of Pannonia, but reports of the nation being outright pillaged by the collaborationist forces begin to come out now, as the Tarusan War exacerbates the situation. The Csengian Patriots invite the Zarans and Pojazernans to follow suit, recalling an ambition of a free and united Pannonia.

Laboristas and Verdes condemn increased militarisation and call for peace marches

Sebastian Valverde and Ana Isabel Gallego, chairpersons of the Partido Laborista and Partido Verde respectively, have come up together in joint criticism of the Vargas Gomez administration, citing increased militarism and authoritarianism, and criticising the cooperation between the Chartist and Restorer party, supposedly the two main parties of Ebria and the traditional rivals in politics, going as far as to call it the "Nation Party", having most power.

In the current Cortes session, the Chartists government of Manuel Vargas Gomez cooperates with their traditional rivals, the Restorers, as they need supply and support to keep the government, as in the past election, in 2019, there has been a change of paradigm of the Ebrian politics. Usually dominated by the two royalist parties, the progressive, Manuelist Chartists and the conservative Alfonsist Restorers, the republican fringe parties of Labour and Greens have managed to break into the Cortes and from a usual 10 to 15 members out of the 600, they manage to gain together nearly a third of the seats, outright breaking the two party dominion and finally forcing upon Ebria a real multiparty system.

This also brought forth the shaky royal establishment of Ebria. With a history of Republicanism (a failed revolution in 1830, another one as a reaction to an Alfonsist war in 1860, a successful proclamation of a republic, albeing for a limtied time and under a military dictatorship between 1899 and 1920, and a series of republican referendums in 1950, 1977 and 1985), the domination of the two Chartist and Restorer parties seemed to have calmed things down, but with the recent elections, republicanism still seems to be an always recurrent element of Ebrian politics.

"Ebrians want peace. That is what the people want. Peace and Democracy. We know Tarusa currently hates both and we understand the crisis of the Buenaventura Bay, but we will not allow this Crisis to be an excuse of the 'national party' to extinguish our democracy by forgetting that elections should be coming soon and that we will not stand by when in the name of national security, we see our own rights and liberties squashed. Should the government suspend elections, because of the Buenaventura Bay incident, we will have more problems than currently with the Tarusan Civil War and Csengia and others," stated Ana Isabel Gallego, chairwoman of the Partido Verde.

"We stand by our soldiers, as the Catholic and Royal Army is a pillar of Ebrianism, and we stand by the families who nearly lost members in the Buenaventura Bay incident. We condemn Tarusan autocracy, imperialism and expansionism, a taint that has touched and poisoned Pannonia and against which we fully support CETO and the Meridian Union, plus our partners from across the seas in defending humanism, liberty and democracy, but we remain critical and will not tolerate authoritarian turns by both the Charists and the Restorers, should they even think of using these events as a vector to call for a situation of emergency and suspend our democracy, they will have people on the streets. We are here to fight an ideological enemy. Ebria, has been since the middle ages a nation where absolutism didn't function, as the local foros functioned as regional parliaments. Where the Cortes always limited the power of the king. If the current leaders think ever so slightly that they can fight an ideological enemy by adopting his ideology, they are wrong and we are here to remind them that," stated Sebastian Valverde, chairman of the Partido Laborista.

The Greens and the Labourists will soon hold a meeting with other extra-parliamentarian opposition parties, to form a united block against the Chartist and Restorer Parties in the upcoming elections. When asked about what are their hopes, señor Valverde described it as so: "Humanism, Republicanism, Catholicism, those are our ambitions. It all depends on the people if they support them too or not".

HAMRUNITE SHOOTING INVESTIGATION:
The recent shooting event in San Lawrenz has been a wakeup call for many Ebrians who believed that the Hamrunite Crisis has been sorted with the arrest of Abram Biancardi, which is still in pre-trial detention. A column of Armed Police Corps has been ambushed in broad daylight as it passed by a construction site, leaving two dead and seven wounded. An investigation has been opened and while it nobody claimed the attack yet, is believed that it has been perpetrated by radicalised separatist groups.

General strike begins today. Labour and Greens sign the San Pedro Agreement

The general strike of the CNT (Confederacion Nacional de Trabajo - National Labour Confederation) and the UGT (Union General de Trabajo - General Labour Union) begins today, and already the transportation industry begins to feel it's pressure. Valls, Amérida and Chiste have transformed into complete traffic jams this morning as the subway systems of the three cities have totally stopped working. The secrives, usually unafected by such industrial actions have been especially hit hard as many banks have announced limited services, working only with the people not adhering to the strike. The same has been observed with restaurants and other leisure industries.

The biggest stoppage has been observed at ENA, the National Automobile Corporation and at EBROAER, the Ebrian Aeronautical Corporation, where the adherence to the strike has been nearly unanimous, with more than 50,000 people have come today to the factories, only to not start working, in protest to the government's position regarding the recent crisis. Such unanimous adherence to the strike has been observed at Carbon Ebriana, the great mining corporation which has has a 99 year monopoly on the great anthracite deposit in Nuoria, and also at Hierro SA, a corporation with 15,000 employees, which owns the steel mills at Villanueva, Manzanares and Sahagún. REREFERO, the national railway company has announced too that they will be able to only provide 25% of the normal services because of the strikes, while the Aerolineas Reales de Ebria, the national airplane company announced that they expect 75% of their flights to work normally.

The CNT and UGT have joined in the Labour and Green Parties in requesting the signing of a memorandum which will effectively block the adoption of a state-of-emergency, should the Buenaventura Bay crisis escalate. Until today, Manuel Vargas Gomez, President of the Government has been intransigent on the issue, stating that the constitution must be followed and should it be necessary such a state of emergency must be called. With July being an election month, many fear that the call of such a proclamation can be used to avoid the result of such elections, which they would call a full on imposition of a "royalist dictatorship".

As both the Chartist and Restorer Party are calling for the respect of the constitution, the Labour and Green Parties have banded together in calling for republicanism, democracy and human rights. The San Pedro Agreement, as it was signed on the 29th of June and it was ratified by the executive commities of the two parties this Sunday, will bring the Labour and Green Parties together, merging them into what will be called the Republican Union. It is believed that with the surge in popularity of Labour and the Greens, important cracks on the two party system of Ebria can be seen, now, with the two united, this new Republican Union might become the biggest and most powerful party in the national politics.

"It is important for our nation to keep its democratic, free and safe character. I for one cannot imagine stepping back in time 200 years only to see the Ebria of the Alfonsist Wars return, that would probably be for the whole Meridian and the Tiburan World a geopolitical catastrophe. We respect the king, as in his 5 years of reign, Manuel III has shown due diligence and dutifulness, but we don't respect the royalist politicians, be them Manuelists like the Chartists, be them Alfonsists like the Restorers. Our goal for Ebria, in this election, will be to call for republicanism, for the respect of the common law, of the people, of our freedom and democracy, for respect of human rights and for Ebria to remain a beacon of liberty, a leading member of the Meridian Union, a pillar of Meridian security, close aligned to the Federation of Westernesse, the Thaumantic Communes and the Hanseatic Republics. We don't want to ruffle feathers, we want to ensure what is best for our people. The fact that so many have joined our call in the singing protests over the weekend and now in the general strike, shows us that we have the support of the people," stated Sebastian Valverde, ex-chairman of the Labour Party, now co-chairman of the Republican Union.

"Populists. That's what they are. Populists who work in destabilising the nation, especially in these perilous times when we might end up in a global war. I wouldn't be shocked if they are sponsored by the Tarusans or Csengian to even destabilise this country with this crazy strike and their anti-constitutional proposals. It is not the first time Ebria goes through an aspiring republican phase. We had a republic before. It was a disaster. The same will happen here should those anarchists follow suit on their hate of the constitution and push us in that direction. As for the strike... it is unfortunate. We will begin negotiations will the strikers to ensure the nation's well-functioning and stable development. As I am probably, at this moment, the sole Ebrian who cares of the constitution more than populism, I will say it like it is: currently, the elections are not suspended. That is just a populist lie. They will go on this July and we hope that cool heads and the silent majority will ensure Ebria goes further. As of yet, there has been no issue big enough to call for a state-of-emergency, but as I am a constitutionalist, should it come, I will not back down from using it," stated President of Government Manuel Vargas Gomez.

Analysts have stated that they expect the Republican Union to become a super-party within the Ebrian politics and the only way for the Chartists and Restorers to respond to it, is to merge and recreate the historical "Traditionalist Communion", the old grand coalition of royalist parties from the first half of the last century. It is, nontheless not the first time both Chartists and Restorers would work together to ensure they remain at the top of Ebrian politics, especially as today, the Chartists have a minority government which is propped by a supply and support agreement with the Restorer Party.

President Vargas Gomez backs off as he signs memorandum. Prepares for elections

Important news have come from the San Idelfonso Palace, the headquarters of the government, where President Manuel Vargas Gomez has announced that he has signed the requested memorandum and has promised that there will be no state-of-emergency called to disrupt the electoral process in the nation, even if the Buenaventura Crisis might escalate. The news have been received with celebrations and an announcement by both the UGT and CNT, the main trade unions of the country, which stated that starting tomorrow morning, everything will return to normal, bringing Ebria's biggest strike to an end after 3 days.

With many expectant on the President of the government to hold out more, as he presented himself to be intransigent on the issue, the news came as a surprise, but the realities behind it might be the latest oppinion polls regarding the general election taking place this July, which has been pushed into a full on referendum by the opposition parties, which promised a full on return to a republic, should they win.

Sources from within the Chartist Party stated that there is a generalised panic that the recent strike and crisis pushed away liberals and progressives, which beforehand avoided the Labour Party for it's left wing policies, prefering the classical liberal Chartists. Now, with the creation of the Republican Union and the charismatic leadership of Sebastian Valverde and Ana Isabel Gallego, both the Labour and Green Parties have tempered their left-wing policies and are going more towards a classical radicalism, liberalism and jacobinism, something that attracted the liberal voters from the Chartist Party.

"In the end, memorandum or not, it is about the elections, which is clear that they are losing. Vargas Gomez and the other Chartists have betted that the liberals will continue to support them as their mainstream party, totally ignoring the rise of the Republican Union, which is a mastodon of a party. If I look at the list of their members, with nearly 2 million, it's bigger than the Chartist and Restorer Party combined. All this happened extremely quickly. They tried win both worlds, keeping their liberals and also attracting conservatives with their intransigent stance. In the end, this memorandum is nothing, just cheap circus. This narrative that if the mining crisis erupts and it will break the electoral cycle is false, but instead of ignoring it, Vargas Gomez adopted it and tried to use it to attract conservatives. Problem is, the conservatives are all Restorer Party voters, and it seems that they were much more entrenched than the liberals the Chartists had. In the end, this is why he compromised, he was brought back down on earth by the fact that he was told that in this election, there's no chance for the Chartist Party to keep power, it's more about survival and hopes that it will enter the parliament," stated Dario Soriano, Tiempos de Valls' chief political analyst.

With this, the electoral campaign continues, as the Chartists are fighting to win over Valls and the rural areas of its Comarca, while the Restorer Party is using the support of the Catholic Church to convey it's message. Meanwhile, the Republican Union is using it's alliances with CNT and UGT to gain workers' support to add to it's youth and progressive base.

Hamrunite Separatist Cache found:
The Armed Police Corps has managed a victory against the Hamrunite Separatists, whose cells are still active, as it managed to discover a weapons cache that contained 35kg of explosives, 18 assault rifles and 30 pistols. It is seen as an extreme discover and it is believed that the weapons come from the looted San Lawrenz Barracks during the early days of the crisis.

Election Opinion Polls: The National Statistics Institute has issued an updated poll in the aftermath of the Memorandum Crisis, showing a shocking 79% support for a republic by the Ebrian electorate. The Republican Union stands very well at about 45% of the vote, while the Restorer Party follws with 30%, while the Chartist Party coming last with 25%. When asked in regards to the people's support for a republic, the Office of the Alcázar of Valls, headquarters of the royal family has stated the following: "In the aftermath of the restoration of the monarchy, the Crown of the Sanchez dynasty laid firm on the head of a king whose legitimacy didn't come from the Grace of God, but rather, from the investiture by the Cortes. Should the Cortes break the tradition, we cannot but accept the fait acompli and recognise the will of the people."

Republican Union squashes Charists and Restorers in elections

Results are in from the general elections in the Ebrian Crown and the National Electoral Bureau has announced the clear victory of the Republican Union, which has received over 65% of the votes, while the Chartists and the Restorers have gained a total of around 35% of the cast votes. While many have expected republicanism to be on an exponential rise as the images of war, destruction and totalitarianism become more and more tied to the Tarusan Tsardom and its civil war, the victory of the republicans is surprising given that it was expected for many that the Restorers' policies will will many over.

The National Electoral Bureau has stated that the turnout for the election was at 74%, a record number for the last two decades since mandatory voting was dismissed, and the average stood at about 60%. The Republican Union, co-chaired by Sebastian Valverde and Ana Isabel Gallego, has managed to win 65% of the voted, followed by the Pedro Mendez led Restorer Party, which has gained 25% of the votes, while the Chartists, led by Manuel Vargas Gomez, have barely managed to gain 10%, showing the perigee of their electoral history, once being the most popular and strongest political parties in the country, now barely passing the 7% threshold to enter the parliament.

For many, this election is seen as an implicit referendum on the future of the monarchy, as the Republican Union has gone into this electoral campaign clearly stating that they wish to end the Crown of Ebria and replace it with a republic. The Royal Palace has already stated that they will comply with the will of the people with the promise that they are to keep their properties and are allowed to remain citizens of the nation.

"The anti-monarchist movement has been steadily growing in the past years and it wasn't base on a negative growth, based on the hate of the current king, but on a positive one, with the promise of betterment and efficientisation of government bureaucracy, which would also offer better representation of the people, be them Ebrian mainlanders, Nuorians or Hamrunites. What accelerated everything was probably a turn of the Labour and Green Parties towards a more centrist approach, rather than going very much on the left, making them attractive to liberals and progressives within the Chartist Party and also moderates within the Restorer Party. To that, one must not ignore the effects the Tarusan autocracy has, as it is an interesting development. The image of a monarchy has been closely tied to the Tarusan expansionism and rivalry, hence the growth of the republican movement," stated Dario Soriano, Tiempos de Valls' chief political analyst.

The Republican Union is set to meet with His Majesty, Manuel III and the government of Manuel Vargas Gomez, to discuss the future developments of the country. It is believed Sebastian Valverde will become the next President of Government, with Ana Isabel Gallego to become the Minister of Interior.

Second Republic Proclaimed at the Alcázar de Valls!

After meeting with his majesty, King Manuel III, the representatives of the Republican Union have come to an agreement and have issued the Proclamation of the 2nd Republic, right at the Alcázar de Valls, ancient acropolis turned into a medieval fortress and now the centre of power of the Ebrian Crown. The Republican Union has forced the last elections to be an outright implicit referendum on the future of the monarchy, stating from the beginning that should it win the elections, their goal will be to see the Republic return to the Ebrian lands after a hiatus of 110 years. With a huge victory like the one in the past few days, much of the resistance and criticism has dissolved, with even Pedro Mendez of the Restorer Party, stating that the paradigm of the politics of Ebria has changed, with the old parties needing to conform to this new reality.

The leaders of the Republican Union, Sebastian Valverde, of the Labour Party faction and Ana Isabel Gallego of the Green Party faction, have met with the representatives of the royal family at the Alcazar de Valls, and after a whole day's discussion with His Majesty, Manuel III, have agreed to issue the proclamation of the republic, with the promise that the next government, until the new constitution is signed and agreed by a referendum to be a National Unity Government.

The Proclamation of the Republic, states that at midnight, between the 13th and 14th of July, the Crown of Ebria will cease to exist and will be replaced by the Union of Ebria, Nuoria and Hamrun, a parliamentarian federal republic with a strong executive, thus ending the Age of Restoration, which lasted from 1913 to 2023. The 2nd Republic sees itself as both a successor to the Crown's Restoration period while also of the 1st Republic, showing that the current leaders of the republican movement in Ebria are not the radicals of the 1st Republic, but rather pragmatic, moderate and in the eyes of some even conservative.

The Union of Ebria, Nuoria and Hamrun will be divided in five states, with three representing the historical regions of mainland Ebria, and the other two the island regions of Nuoria and Hamrun, a division which is set to be observed on the flag too, as the Proclamation stated that the 1st Republic's purple-yellow-black will be the main flag, while the the red-gold-red rojigualda flag, with a five pointed black-bordered white star in the middle, will be a variant flag.

To respect the promise of the Agreement with the royal house, the Republican Union has stated that they will propose a technocrat as the first President, with an experience in the government, so they proposed Dario Alfonso Rios Lopez, the current Minister of Military Affairs in the Manuel Vargas Gomez cabinet. They also stated that Sebastian Valverde will become the minister of Foreign Affairs, while Ana Isabel Gallego will become Minister of Environment, although they both will be seen as unofficial vice-presidents.

The Proclamation also stated that the Tiburan Catholic Church will be kept as a the "main Church of the Ebrian and Nuorian Culture", and will also not change the current Concordat, which also offers a years sum of 500million EM to the Holy See as a bankroll, a provision that has existed in the relationship between Ebria and the Holy See since 1650. The Republic will also respect the rights and privileges of the Hidalgos, although no more will be anointed. With the future disbandment of the House of Lords and its replacement by the Senate, the hidalgos' main privilege will still be the tax ones, as they don't have the duty to pay income taxes.

Some of those positions have drawn criticism from the more radical socialists and republicans but for many are seen as an important compromise to ensure that the move to the republic will ruffle as little feathers as possible. The royal family will continue to keep their properties, including the Alcazars of Valls, Chiste, Calatrava, San Lawrenz and the royal palaces in Amerida and Sahagun. They will keep the Crown of San Isidro, and the royal treasury, while also continuing the use the title King of Ebria. The royal family will also receive a yearly stipend of 5 million EM.

"When the clock of the Torre de la Ciudad will show midnight, an era will end and a new one will begin. The white flag of the Corona de Ebria will be taken down and replaced by the tricolour of the Union de Ebria, Nuoria y Hamrun. Let us not be saddened by it, yet keep the moment elegant, somber and respect its significance. The end of an era must not be seen as a bad thing, but rather, as the natural progression into a Republic that is much more open towards offering its people equity, stability, security and respect for humanity in general. The Union will be thus a successor of both the 1st Republic and of the Crown, as we don't want to reinvent the wheel, but rather build upon the efforts and sacrificies and martyrdom of our ancestors and ensure that for posterity, we have done as much as we could to bring forth an improvement in human society. Tomorrow, a new Ebria will rise. A new Ebria that as much as it will feel like the old one, will be working harder than ever to strive to ensure that its people are safe and its interests protected," stated Sebastian Valverde in the proclamation.

New Government and Cortes sworn in. Dario Rios, first President of the Republic

With the new elections and the importance of streamlining the governmental changes so that they happen as quickly as possible and without destabilising the nation, in the context of the increased tensions with the two warring Tarusan factions, the Cortes General has moved quickly in appointing the new members and also of sworning in the first republican government, led by the technocrat Dario Alfonso Rios Lopez, a retired general of the Catholic and Royal Army and minister of Military Affairs in the Manuel Vargas Gomez cabinet.

The new government has been sworn in an is made out of the dominant Republican Union party, with it's two factions, the Labour and Green Parties, dividing the ministries between them, with few exceptions which were given to technocrats, namely the ministry of Economy, Finance and the Military Affairs, which traditionally have always been reserved for retired generals, which has attracted criticism over the decades about the potential lack of civilian oversight over the armed forces.

The new government will be headed by Sebastian Valverde, the head of the Labour faction within the Republican Union, whom has taken over the ministry of Foreign Affairs, by Ana Isabel Gallego, leader of the Green faction, which has taken over the office of Minister of Environment, and by Dario Rios, who will become the first President, not of the Government, as it was before, but rather of the Republic, becoming a head of state, rather than of the government. The first two will also hold the office of Vice-Presidents, so ensure Republican Union dominance over the government.

"Our goal is to ensure that stability is kept, with Ebria remaining a model for the Meridian Union, despite this current, quite big constitutional change. The nation will continue to respect its promises, duties and responsibilities and will ensure that the Meridian Area will remain a safe place in Gallia and southern Germania. We will also ensure that the Catholic and Royal Army, now the National Republican Army will be kept up to date to ensure that we are defended and that the fears of the Tarusan civil war spilling over into a world war, remain just that, fears, rather than the dystopian reality of the future. Our goal is to also develop the infrastructure of the nation by developing faster connections between Valls and Amerida and to ensure that everyone in Ebria, be them from the mainland regions of Sierra Morena, La Janda with Amerida or La Vega with Valls, but also from the islands of Nuoria and Hamrun, feel that they have a stake in our new Union, irrespective of their language or religion," stated Sebastian Valverde in the press conference after the sworning in of the government.

OTHER NEWS
BUENAVENTURA BAY DECLARED SAFE:
Great news have come up today from the General Staff of the National Republican Armada, which has stated that the joint Ebrian and Renian efforts to de-mine the Buenaventura Bay has been extremely successful, with the former defusing about 100 mines, while the latter around 80. The Ebrian ships have been escorted by frigates and aerial patrols, but also by the nearby presence of the Federal navy, which has brought an air carrier corps to the Buenaventura Bay, to deter any Tarusan provocations against the mine-sweeping process. It is believed that inside the Csengian national waters and their economic exclusive zone are still mines, the same as with Vrijpoort, but the Ebrian navy has kept clear of those areas, concerned first and foremost on Ebrian interests followed by the Meridian Union interests. The Armada expects the Tarusan presence in the Buenaventura Bay to continue as it blockades the small coast of Csengia and for the mining to continue to ensure that no supplies are shipped into the Bajoran kingdom which hosts the headquarters of the Konstantinist faction in the Tarusan Civil War.
María Alvarado returns to Valls to film: María Alejandra Alvarado, the Ebrian telenovela starlet has returned to Ebria after spending most of the spring and early summer in Oltremare, as the unofficial partner of the Provveditore Generale of the Stato da Mar. She has returned this morning to Valls after she has been cast in a new TV series, called La reina con las manos vacías, the Empty Handed Queen, telling the story of Queen Uracca of the Kingdom of Vega (historical name for the Valls region), known for her oath of poverty.

Ebrian Delegation to Zahorie Summit downgraded:: After it was initially announced that President Dario Alfonso Rios Lopez will lead the Ebrian delegation at the Peace Summit in Zahorie, the Ebrian government has stated that it will be downgraded to being led by Sebastian Valverde, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the Republic. The move comes after the increase of recent tensions with the President being occupied with the internal matters of Ebria, namely the creation of the Constitutional Commission which will cement the proclamation of the Union of Ebria, Nuoria and Hamrun as a replacement for the Crown of Ebria. The government stated that they mean no insult to the Zahoreans for this, but current events, both international and intranational make it impossible for Dario Rios to travel to Zahorie at this time. Ebria will still be present and it will follow the level of representation of both Rheinbund and Radilo, namely by sending the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Ebria to send new diplomat to the EF:: After it was announced yesterday that Ada Valen Fernandez will be recalled from Frescania, the headquarters of the European Forum, to become a State Secretary for the Relationship with the Meridian Union within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry has come up today with a new apointment. It was stated initially that for a period the position will remain vacant, but President Dario Rios has forced Minister Sebastian Valverde to push forth and name someone as quickly as possible, for as the president stated: "The European Forum might have felt complacent and useless for a while, but it might wake up soon and we will not suffer missing that". The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has nominated Juan Torrez as the new Ebrian representative. Juan Torrez has been a cabinet member in the early 2010s as Minister of Welfare and has worked for the ministry for most of his life.

Csengian Patriotic Council criticises lack of support:: Robert Váradi, the chairman of the Csengian Patriotic Council has criticised the slow growth of the recognition of the Csengian Patriotic Council and the Independent State of Csengia as the legitimate representatives of the government and the nation of Csengia by the democratic nations. He has criticised especially Ebria for it, where the government of Dario Rios and the republicans seem to not be interested at all in supporting the Csengian disidents, but thanked the Radilans and the Thaumanticans for their support. "Many nations fear the Tarusans, but you can't escape what you fear. Every day when the nations of the world turn their back to the grim reality is a day in which Tarusa becomes stronger and the final confrontation harder. The nations of the world need to unite and begin a crusade against the demons of Kremlyov and their spawn in Kispest, to ensure that the world of tomorrow is safe for the future generations," stated Robert Varadi.

Millions participate in the Santiago pilgrimage to Chiste
  • More than 2 million people have arrived to Chiste for the Day of Santiago
  • Nation sees a religious revival in the face of world tensions, right as Republic pushes for secularisation
  • President Dario Rios uses this occasion to call for constitutional referendum
The 25th of July has always been seen as a 2nd National Holiday for Ebria, as many are making the pilgrimage to the Cathedral in Chiste to pray at the relics of Santiago, or worldwide known as Saint Jacob the Apostle, whose remains have been transferred to Chiste in the aftermath of the 4th Crusade, when Radilan, Neustrian and Ebrian crusaders took control of Propontis and the Holy Land. While at first not seen as quite that important, the cult of Santiago began to grow in the 16th century, with first important pilgrimages and has outright exploded in the mid 19th century, when Marian aparitions have been reported too in the city. The advent of public transportation and the amelioration of security and ease of travel has made the pilgrimage to Chiste become a cultural and religious element that each Ebrian has to do at least once in his lifetime.

While many pilgrims travel year round to Chiste, especially as the mild winter is seen as a better season than the scorching summers, on average about a million people come to Chiste for the 25th of July, the celebration of Santiago. This year, the Ayuntamiento of Nuoria has been taken by surprise by the large numbers, as more than double have arrived, with the accomodation facilities around the Nuorian capital, which usually numbers 1,200,000 people, can't cope with the 2 million arivees. The national authorities have come to the aid of the Nuorians building a tent city around the city where they offer the pilgrims decent infrastructure for their welfare and wellbeing.

Present at the pilgrimage are President Dario Rios, King Manuel III and his family, the governor of Nuoria, Sebastiano Petrecca, and the political leaders of the Traditionalist Communion, Pedro Mendez and Manuel Vargas Gomez, but also the chairwoman of the Green Party faction of the Republican Union, Ana Isabel Gallego. The absence of Sebastian Valverde has been noted and has drawn much criticism, some going as far as to condemn him for turning against traditional Ebrian culture, rather than just a disinterest in religion.

It wasn't long until the movement began to be used as a political assembly too, as the governor of Nuoria has gone as far as to criticise the Republic's "secularist" policies as a prelude to an outright ban of Christianity and the Santiago pilgrimage, much to the chagrin of the republicans present, but also leading to long booing especially against Sebastian Valverde. This was followed by a speech by Pedro Mendez, who called out the Republican proclamation and criticised it for being un-constitutional and outright dictatorial, going as far as to call it "the deformed and abominable demon child of totalitarianism and anarchy". Spirits were calmed down when the recently abdicated King Manuel III has taken the spotlight, giving a speech on the importance of unity for all Ebrians, from Hamrun to Amerida and using the current geopolitical tensions to call out against radicalisation on both sides.

Besides King Manuel III, the politician which has been received with applause was President Dario Rios, for he has been seen by many Ebrians, thanks to his past military career and apolitical position, as being above savage party politics. Using the people massed in Chiste, Dario Rios has echoed the sentiment of King Manuel III and called Ebrians to unity, despite what has been seen as a rushed republican proclamation.

"We have always been allied to the nations of the Meridian, and now to the nations across the seas, from Charleroi to Shinkyo. We all understand what's at stake when the Kremlyov regime will begin to see Konstantin as a secondary threat, and will begin to turn on all of us. Let us not use, in the end what are petty titles in the national name... republic, union or crown, to divide us in the face of what is probably the largest incoming conflict for the past 100 years. I know the proclamation was rushed. I called it out when Valverde pushed for it, but for many republicans, it was a now or never moment. I for one firmly believe in our justice system, in our constitution, in our culture, faith and people, and for that, while I myself am a republican, I have respect for my political oponents and for his majesty, whom has been firmly diligent in his duties as he reigned. I thus issue this call, for a constitutional referendum, so that the people of Ebria can choose, if they want to live under the Crown, or under the Republic. That way we can be fully sure, that people who want a republic or those who want a monarchy, have their voices heard, and that our nation can be reborn as a legitimate state, rather than a political artifice," stated President Dario Rios, to the applauses of the hundreds of thousands present.

The speech was condemned by Sebastian Valverde and his radical wing of the Republican Union, which called the president out for "delegitimising the republic" for calling its proclamation as a political artifice. Even so, President Dario Rios has already invited observers from @Thaumantica, @The Federation, @Neustria @Radilo @Remuria and @Rheinbund to be present so that the world can observe and fully hear the voice of the Ebrian people.

OTHER NEWS
POLITICAL INSTABILITY IMPACTS ECONOMY:
As the world sees a stagnation at best and a recession in the majority of cases thanks to the increase of tensions, and the disruption of trade caused by the Buenaventura Bay and Gothic Sea mining, a problem exacerbated by the Gothic Sea piracy and the close off of Tarusan and Al-Magrab oil exports, Ebria is one of the hardest hit, nearly on the same level of Gutarike, which has seen its production lines broken by the Polar Divorce and the loss of Gothic Sea oil, Ostmark, which has been forced to depend on land trade as the naval front around Piramida makes it impossible for ships to arrive to Ostmark, or Csengia, which is again, dependent on the very little trade that comes into the country through Hansa, Rheinbund and the Serrault Isthmus. Many pundits have stated that the republican proclamation and the lack of its recognition, as only Rheinbund fully recognised the union, is bringing trade down, even if many nations cooperate with the state. The Ministry of Finance issued a report which stated that only the Meridian Union membership saved Ebria's economy from falling into a more than -3% growth threshold. It is believed that in the background of this report, President Dario Rios pushed for the referendum to normalise the political situation.

It is of utmost importance that the people of Ebria speak out on how they want to be governed, be it through a republic or through a monarchy. We call upon everyone to not make the situation more complicated than needed. We will send observers to the referendum in Ebria, and will recognise the outcome of the referendum.

PUBLIC STATEMENT

Every five years the Federation overseas the largest elections process on the planet as it conducts elections for all 10,000 plus seats of the Federation Council. In the early years this process was extremely chaotic and fraught with errors, now it is one of the most streamlined and well planned election process in any nation. We would be happy to send observers to Ebria to oversee this referendum.

As a long standing regional partner of the Ebrian Nation irrespective of regime, the Kingdom of Neustria is profoundly honoured by the proposal of His Excellency, President Dario Rios, which it accepts wholeheartedly. With the Ebrian Government's consent, the Interior Ministry will dispatch a delegation of observers from the Directorate General of Polling, which is responsible for organising all elections and referenda in Neustria and for counting, tabulating and publishing their results.

Leaders from all political positions sign Ávila Accord to ensure stability post referendum

  • Republican Union, Traditionalist Communion and independents sign the agreement to fully respect referendum results
  • Darío Ríos called for the signing of such a declaration to show the people that the political class will respect its will
  • Sebastian Valverde condemned it as a "creeping restoration"
Political leaders from all across the spectrum in Ebria have come together to the sleepy town of Ávila, in the east of Ebria, on the shores of lake Serrault, at the call of President Darío Ríos, which has called again an again on parties both to the left and right, to reduce their radicalism and ensure that for the time being, with the world tensions so high, they never forget that irrespective of the rojigualda or blanca banners, the people and nation are still Ebrian, and must be united in the face of the dangers of the world.

Present at the meeting in Ávila, was President Darío Ríos, the chairman of the Traditionalist Communion, Pedro Méndez, the chairwoman of the Republican Union, Ana Isabel Gallego, and many other representatives both from the parliament, the Senate, ex-House of Peers, the mayors of Amérida and Valls, and governors of the mainland comarcas and the two isular states, Nuoria and Hamrun. Besides them was also his majesty, King Manuel III, members of the Supreme National Defence Junta and as witnesses even some officers from the White Helms.

The Ávila Accord states that both parties, the Republican Union and the Traditionalist Communion are free to campaign for their own goals in seeing the constitutional reform of Ebria be brought to an end as per their own aspirations, but irrespective of the political votes the people cast, neither faction has the right to contest it or request a new such constitutional change in the next 99 years, hereby locking in the results of the referendum and the political system the people decided upon.

This comes in the background of great political and military tensions in the world, and with an Ebria that has become a vector of anti-Tarusan imperialist thought in Gallia, but many feel that any of its political aspirations are hampered by internal instability and an unresolved question of political systems which has plagued the nation since the end of its 1st Empire and the Ebrian revolution, which brough forth a failed 1st Republic under a military regime, followed up by an unpopular restoration and the present system.

At Ávila, the two factions also stated their goals in regards to the constitutional process, with the Traditionalist Communion stating that they wish to keep the 1980 Constitution, keeping the Viceroy system in for Nuoria and Hamrun, while the mainland is to remain unitary. To the surprise of many, the two factions are not as clearly divided, as many republicans tried to attract conservatives too by promising the retention of hidalgo privileges, while many monarchists are doing their best at attracting liberals, promising an end to the House of Peers.

The Referendum in question will have a simple question: "Which system of government should Ebria have?" with the answers being a very simple republic vs monarchy. But while the question and the vote is simple, both factions have discussed at Ávila their constitutional amendments and have put forward a draft as to what each response to the question:

Monarchy
  • 1st article of the Constitution will be kept, declaring Ebria a monarchy.
    • The head of state will be the king, which will be part of the De Sánchez royal house, whose current head is Manuel III.
    • The role of the king will be fully symbolical, being a personification of the state and the supreme commander of the armed forces, position delegated to the Chairman of the Supreme Junta of National Defence.
  • The legislative is to be reformed into a unicameral parliament, called the Congress, with representatives for electoral colleges representing 50,000 citizens.
    • The House of Peers is to be disbanded;
    • The Congress will be elected through a First Past the Post system;
    • Hidalgo privileges are to be rescinded with the exception of being allowed to still use their traditional titles;
  • Nuoria and Hamrun will keep their devolved autonomous status as Viceroyalties within the realm. The mainland will be kept unitary, divided into 5 comarcas and 50 prefectures;
  • Ebrian will remain the sole official language of the mainland, while Nuorese and Hamrunite will have co-official status within their own regions;
  • The Tiburan Catholic Church will remain as the state church of Ebria, with other abrahamic religions being allowed to build places of worship, but lacking the privileges of the former, which has monopoly on religious education.
    • All Christian Churches (and Muslim mosques in Hamrun) are to be exempt of property taxes;
    • The state will continue on with the 1980 Concordat with the Holy See, which also has Ebria subsidising the Papal State;
Republic
  • 1st article of the Constitution will be changed, declaring Ebria a republic.
    • The head of state will be the President, which will be indirectly elected by the people, through appointment by the legislative
    • The same position of President will also be the head of government, who once appointed will nominate a cabinet, which will be approved by the legislative.
  • The legislative is to remain bicameral, with a lower House of Representatives, each seat representing 50,000 citizens, and an upper Senate, state offering 20 senators;
    • Parliament is to be elected through a proportional method;
    • A threshold of 5% will be necessary for parties to enter the parliament;
    • Hidalgo privileges such as zero income taxes and reduced property taxes on economical property are to be kept;
  • The state will be fully federalised, with the mainland divided in three historical regions, plus Nuoria and Hamrun, each with its own regional parliament and government;
  • Ebrian, Nuorian and Hamrunite will all be seen as official languages, with the latter two having representation in areas with more than 20% speakers (this officially means that only about half of Nuoria, which has been thoroughly Ebrianised historically, will have its language represented).
  • The state will be fully secularised, with no official state religion and all religious institutions free to function and worship.
    • All faiths will pay property and income taxes;
    • Religious education will be disbanded;
    • The state will renounce the 1980 Concordat;

President Darío Ríos has stated regarding the discussions that it must be understood by all political actors that the lives of Ebrians must not be threatened by politicking and other superficial games, especially in the current state of the world: "Both camps have put forth their ideals for the referendum on how they want this country to be governed. I will ensure that there will be a thorough campaign of publicising these amendments, so that Ebrians will be voting knowing what this all means, rather than emotionally. Should there be a faction that will not recognise the will of the people, they will be dealt upon with the full force of the state. Now it's not the time to take up arms brother against brother, but rather, to understand that even if we live under the white banner of the red-gold banner, we are still Ebrians and we must be united for the Free World and for Gallo-Germanian civilisation," he stated.

The silent majority has spoken: 62% for restoration, 36% for republic, 2% invalid
  • Ebrians voted for a return to what they seen as order, security and stability
  • As per the Ávila Accord, political leaders recognised the results, with few exceptions
  • Valls stock market responded positively to the vote
The results of the institutional referendum have been published by the National Electoral Bureau, showing a strong support, at 62% for the restoration of the crown, only 36% for the republic and 2% being invalid votes. At a turnout of 80%, it has been one of Ebria's most anticipated and participatory electoral exercises in recent memory. The authorities found little disruption, with some exceptions in Amérida, where an unauthorised protest by CNT and UGT has been organised in the city, with a counter protest organised by the Union Catolica, the catholic distributist trade union in Chiste.

With the current vote on the restoration, the Supreme Court announced that the Republican Proclamation of 13th of July is declared null and void, ending two weeks of republican experimentation and what many have seen as a whirlwind of radicalisation and extremism, which might have ended as a civil war. The vote on restoration brings a return of the 1985 constitution, with a series of amendments, namely the end of hidalgo privileges, the creation of a unicameral parliament, with the House of Peers disbanded, the return of his majesty, King Manuel III to the Alcázar of Valls and the maintenance of the Tiburan Catholic Church as the state religion of the land.

At midnight, the rojigualda flag with the white start will be brought down, and the bandera blanca, will fly again over the lands, in a sign to show a return to constitutional order in the country. Dario Alfonso Rios Lopez is to remain president, although he will become the President of the Government, rather than of the republic, and has already announced that he wants a meeting with Ana Isabel Gallego of the Republican Union and with Pedro Mendez of the Traditionalist Communion, to discuss the composition of the government going forward. As part of the Ávila Accord, the signatories have promised, besides respecting the referendum results, to also come together and bring in a National Unity Government, as a show of political unity for both Ebrians and the outside world, that the episode of instability and radicalism has passed.

"I have always been personally a republican, but I have a deep respect for the Ebrian nation, culture and patrimonium. If that means that his majesty, Manuel III is to return on the throne, as per the wishes of the people, I will salute it and cooperate with everyone who respects the will of the people and the constitutional order. The Ávila Accord has been designed by me and I was the one who insisted on adding the 99 years cool off period for such a great institutional referendum to happen again, as I understand that in the end, the nation needs to heal and come together, especially as the world gets close and closer to the edge of the abyss of a world war. Be it the rojigualda or the blanca, the banners represent the Ebrians, and from Amérida to Sahagún, to San Lawrenz to Villa Cisneros or Puerto Garay, we must not allow cracks to exist in our social and political fabric, for they will be used by hostile agents to destroy the land which we all love so much. I have thus invited representatives from the two major parties to come and discuss the importance of national unity, and I will issue one last call, for Sebastian Valverde, which used to be one of my closest friends, to turn away from his folly of anti-constitutionalism," stated Dario Rios in the press conference that followed the publication of the referendum results.

The government issued a statement in which it stated it's continued promises to uphold Ebria's international agreements, such as the Valls Pact and Meridian Union memberships, but also the plethora of bilateral relations it had with other countries. It also requested the government of @Rheinbund to revoke their recognition of the unconstitutional republic, as it was the sole nation which recognised the proclamation, and to return to recognising the constitutional order of the Crown of Ebria.

"It just shows us how the rushed proclamation literally happened at the worst time, as it destroyed much of the self confidence of the Ebrians and their unity especially in the face of a potential global conflict. This also shows, how the electoral victory of the Republican Union, was based more on a negative vote, to push Manuel Vargas Gomez out, a politician which externally is respected for his successful creation of the Valls Pact, but internally is loathed for the way he tackled the Memorandum Crisis, leaving the nation vulnerable to radicalism, which has been seen, with the proclamation of the republic. What saved the referendum and probably the conservative parties was the fact that Pedro Mendes and his restorers took over and pushed Vargas Gomez away from public spotlight. I fear that only in the next few years, when the waters settle, will we find out, how close we were in these past two weeks, to lapse into a civil war like Tarusa's if not even worse," stated Dario Soriano, Tiempos de Valls' chief political analyst.

OTHER NEWS
SCANIAN CHAOS:
Istavanian news sources have erronously stated from a governmental report that there is a state of open war between Tarusa and CETO, something that has brought forth quick reactions from both sides, with the Ivanists even requesting openly a ceasefire in the Gothic Sea between them and Konstantinists in the face of potential war agaisnt CETO, while the latter voting to cut Istavania out of the alliance. At the same time, the Ostvegians are feeling the heat and believe less and less in the power of their neutrality and seem to seek a rapprochement with the Hanseatics. "One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in Scania," stated an Ebrian parliamentary.

Betreff / Subject: Recognition of Republic of Ebria and Crown of Ebria, respectively

We recognised the Republic of Ebria because the switch to a republic was performed without violence and with the mutual agreement of the parties involved (the government of that time and the King). Given how things looked like at that moment, it seemed that the switch to a republic was also the will of the people of Ebria, constituting another important reason to recognise the Republic. At that moment, we could not know that the Ebrians wanted things to be different. Not even the people deciding the switch to a republic knew this, by the way. We think that our decision to recognise the Republic of Ebria was correct.
Not expected by us, and by the Government of Ebria, it appeared that the Ebrians were less satisfied with the Republic than seemed to be the case earlier. The Government of Ebria took the correct decision to organise a referendum on the issue. Upon request by the Ebrian government, we sent in observers. We also indicated that we would recognise the outcome of the referendum.
The majority of the Ebrians voted for the reconstitution of the constitutional monarchy. We are currently considering the phrasing of the official declaration from a legal point of view, but we will recognise the constitutional order of the Crown of Ebria.

The Kingdom of Neustria wishes to congratulate the Ebrian Nation on the Restoration of its Monarchy. His Majesty King Philippe IX also extends his personal wishes to King Manuel III, noting that Neustria and Ebria are of the longest-standing realms in Christendom. We hope that Ebria's new Constitution will stand as proof that respect for tradition can be reconciled with meaningful political reform. Moreover, Neustria reaffirms its respect for the right of the Ebrian Nation to choose its own constitutional and political arrangements, and we are confident that our friendship will survive such shifts.

Darío Ríos to lead reformed National Unity Government

  • National Unity Government formed as Rios forces parties to work together
  • Republican Union to hold emergency meeting in response to Valverde dissidence
  • Government to change certain office holders to ensure efficiency in representation
In full respect of the Ávila Accord, President of Government Darío Alfonso Ríos López, announced that a National Unity Government will be formed with the Republican Union and the Tranditionalist Communion, as part of the agreed consequences of the Institutional Referendum, and the enforcement of the acceptance of the results by both parties. While the Accord has been openly supported by many political movements, to the surprise of many even by the UGT and CNT trade unions, there have been radical factions within the Republican Union, especially in the Labour Party led by Sebastian Valverde, which have been critical of it.

The National Unity Government will be led by Darío Ríos, who is a member of neither party. A retired general of the Catholic and Royal Army, with a PhD in management and logistics from the Royal Military Academy in Valls. Rios has been presented as the technocrat that can restore andcleanse the Ministry of Military Affairs, in the aftermath of the 2014 corruption scandals there and has been a member of the government since then. In the aftermath of the Institutional Crisis: the republican proclamation and its aftermath, Dario Rios has been seen as the perfect "non-politician" who can manage Ebria and lead it to stability and safety.

The government will be supported by the Republican Union and the Traditionalist Communion, and Rios will have Ana Isabel Gallego, minister of the Environment and Pedro Mendez, minister of foreign affairs, as his vice-presidents. Besides leading the government, the three will have weekly meetings with his majesty, King Manuel III at the Alcázar de Valls, to discuss the governing and recent developments in the international stage. It must be mentioned that the constitution does not require a meeting of the President of the Government with the King, but they have been requested by Pedro Mendez, in his bid to "enforce the importance of the four pillars of the Ebrian State: Parliament, Monarch, Church and Justice System".

As much as the recent referendum has been received well by the grand majority of the people, institutions and state actors, there have been dissenting voices coming from the Republican Union especially from Sebastian Valverde, the co-chairman of the party and leader of the labour faction. While Ana Isabel Gallego is concerned that it might break the party, it can be observed that he is losing many supporters as many more fear continued radicalism can bring more instability for Ebria, which can lead to a quick collapse in the face of the Tarusan empire, or even a civil war. The Republican Union will be holding an emergency congress in the next days to adapt to the Ávila Accords.

Since taking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ebrian diplomatic corps has been on the radar of Pedro Mendez, which has insisted on sending Ada Valen Fernandez back to Frescania, to represent the nation in the European Forum. Juan Torrez will be recalled, but that will not be the end of his diplomatic and political career, as he has will be appointed Captain General in the State of Rio de Oro, which a ceremonial position acting as a bridge between the associated Himyari states and Valls.
