Prime Minister concerned of tensions in Gallo-Germania
  • Thüringäu-Lethonia's transcontinental system sparks tensions
  • The Prometheists call for a closer relationship with Scanlaw
  • The Alliance calls for the diffusion of the situation and for Thaumantic Neutrality
The recent debate regarding the defence of the Scanlaw substates Thüringäu-Lethonia and their system of transcontinental missiles is escalating tensions in Gallo-Germania, as the Germanian PD states have already tested their defence system, prompting concern from some and condemnations from others. While as of yet, the Scanlaw's authorities are trying to reign in the southern members of the community, there are many issues affecting the continent, with the Pannonian Crisis still very fresh in the people's minds, and the many threats the Empire of Tarusa issued towards smaller countries like Ostmark, to which a generalised Germanophobia can be observed, there are many who see such a missile system to be necessary in the defence of Thüringäu-Lethonia in the case of aggression, especially if it comes from Tarusa, and even more nowadays with the underhanded bond the Empire in the East has with the Holy Frankish Empire.

In the Commonwealth of Deira, the Thaumantic and the Republican Navy have always been the bulwark against continental aggression. The sea itself became a barrier that kept the aggression and misrule of the continent faraway from the Commonwealth and the larger Deiran Community, which counts the Union of Natal and the Dominion of Andros Isles. The Missile Question has been present in Deiran society, as with the modern way war is waged, the continent can attack the home nations without needing to cross the Thaumantic or fight the Republican Navy. Since the start Pannonian Crisis, the right honourable Sam Morrow, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth has announced that a new era of heightened tensions has begun and the collapse of the Pannonian Republic has started a domino effect, where nation states, so weary of redrawing borders in the aftermath of the great war are now again in a scramble for territories like they were in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Defence Commission made out of representatives from the House of Lords has requested the government to come with a masterplan to upgrade the defence capabilities of the Commonwealth and the Community, to be able to respond to the threats that can appear, targeting the Deiran civilisation, its citizens and its culture, while also doing everything possible to deter war, while also still keeping the general military power of the Commonwealth in high standards.

"The Commonwealth of Deira has always traditionally kept a position of being half integrated, half isolated from the issues in Gallo-Germania, but we must never fool ourselves. The Islands are still part of the Gallo-Germanian supercontinent, together with Scania too and what happens there affects us all. We cannot but observe and be worried and concerned of the redrawing of borders and the new arms race that has been started by the nations of Germania especially, with Tarusa starting a program that nearly doubles its navy, while Germanians from the Scanlaw are responding with the development of never seen before missiles. The Commonwealth must understand something from this. We have always been in the middle, our natural aversion to absolutism is as real as our aversion to the realities of Post-Delegationism and its policies, which we always seen as extremes we must avoid, but to keep ourselves in this position, we must be strong enough to deter all aggressors. We cannot simply declare ourselves neutral and not have the guns to defend ourselves, naively thinking that just through declarations and communiques, our neutrality might be respected by others, as it happened with certain nations spawned our of the carcass of Pannonia," stated the right honourable Sam Morrow, LP of the Commonwealth.

The position of the Lord Protector is typical for the more moderate Roundheads, but that caucus is slowly seeing its influence chipped in the larger party, with more and more Roundheads calling for a more active external policy, with calls of closer bonds with Scanlaw and Nieveland being ubiquitous on the Reports of the Foreign Affairs Parliamentarian Commission. The radical Roundheads, which still expressing their concern in regards to the ideological elements of Post-Delegationism, they recall the long democratic traditions of Deira to be very close to the respect the Scanians hold for Democracy, while with the Nieves, the shared social values brought forth by the social teachings of the Catholic Church are seen as factors enhancing cooperation.

The more conservative Cavaliers on the other hand are calling for the complete neutrality of Deira, a position similar to what the moderate Roundheads, including the LP are taking, but they go father, instead, calling for the isolation of Deira from Gallo-Germanian affairs, and transforming the Foreign Office into an institution bent on bringing peace on the continent, by providing the environment for a summit between the representatives of the Scanlaw and the Tarusan Empire.

As of yet, the Ministry of Defence has taken action, with the right honourable Alton Travis, the minister of defence, announcing that a commission has been formed to provide with a feasibility study on the development of a missile shield to protect the home nations.

The start of the Community Summit in Santiago
  • The Cimeira da Comunidade has started in Santiago
  • The summit is one of the most important yearly political events
  • Usually hosted in Ribamar, it takes place for the first time in the Empire of Natal
The Cimeira da Comunidade, or the Community Summit is probably the most important yearly event within the Beirese Community, the institution which succeded the ancient colonial empire of Beira, as it replaced it with three associated states on equal footing: Beira, Natal and the Andros Isles. Since the refromation of the empire into the Beirese Community in 1955, the Summit has taken place every year, with the goal to keep the bond strong between the three Beirese nations, and to provide the states with a strong developmental platform based on cooperation and solidarity within the crownlands.

Since its inception, the Community Summit has taken place in Ribamar, the capital city of the United Kingdom of Beira, but after strong campaigns, especially from the Hyena administration of Natal led by Dário Resendes, whom has lobbied for the use of Santiago as a host city, Prime Minister Oscar Agostinho Passos has approved and went as far as to state that from now on the summit will take place on a rotating basis, with Porto Sul, the capital of the Andros Isles to host the next year's summit.

In a festive atmosphere, landing at Jacaranda International Airport in Santiago, the Beirese and Andronese delegations led by Oscar Agostinho Passos and Rubinho Mascarenhas respectively have been received by the Natalian hosts, led by Viceroy Pio Gomes and Prime Minister Dário Resendes. The event was seen as a great victory for the Natalians which have done their best to prepare for the summit as the Palacio Azul has been readied for weeks in advance for the gathering of diplomats and politicians from allover the Beirese world. Hundreds of people have come out on the streets to welcome the delegations.

The motto of this year's summit is "The Beirese World in an Everchanging World" and the main subjects which will be tackled will be security, especially in regards to Gallo-Germania and Himyar, considering the destabilisation brought by the collapse of Pannonia and the escalating tensions in Germania on one side and the end of the mandates in Himyar, which have been seen by many to be adisaster for the locals, as it left behind power vacuums, and underdeveloped institutions, with some describing Al-Magrab and Hajr as "collapsing onto themselves". Internally, the main subjects are the tackling of inequality and poverty.

Prime Minister of Beira, Oscar Agostinho Passos has announced a plan to ease the bureaucratic burden for entrepreneurs within the United Kingdom which will aid both native future businessmen wanting to start new companies, but also foreign investors. At the same time, the Natalian and Andronese prime ministers have announced that they plan to create a joint development bank, to aid local entrepreneurs through low interest loans. The infrastructure issues within the community are also to be discussed, with the development of Natalian highway infrastructure being described as slower than expected.

All in all, the three prime ministers have reiterated the promise of the United Kingdom to become a pillar of stability in the region and to promote the development of the national economy as it will aid both the peoples within the community, but also the world at large, through the furthering of trade and commerce.

Trabalhistas and Restauradores form a united front against the Cartistas

For the first time in decades, the socialist Trabalhistas, have signed a common accord with the conservative Restauradores to push the liberal Cartistas to "provide for better, much more competent administration" of the United Kingdom. Senhores Caio Queiros and Rufio Cutinho, the leaders of the Restauradores and Trabalhistas respectively have attacked in the Corteis Gerais the government led by senhor Oscar Agustinho Passos, with the main point of divergence being education.

Officially, the law of education states that the government is obliged to offer at least 6% of the GDP towards funding the education sector. This has been voted upon in 2015, and since then the government failed to provide in respect to the law, offering only a little over 3% of the GDP towards funding the education, with the 2021 budget being the worst, with only 2.35% of the GDP going towards the education. This last year marked the worst percentage of education funding in the last century.

The attacks come in the backdrop of the government meeting to discuss the 2022-2023 budget, which needs to be approved by late March the latest. The the Trabalhistas and Restauradores call for increases in civil expenses, while the Cartistas have called for further funding of the armed forces, especially with the current escalation in Gallo-Germania and the rising tensions between the Scanlaw and the two Empires of Gallia and Slavia.

"Traditionally, Beira and the Crown's overseas communities were always seen as a Thaumantic nation, like Nieveland, Ivernia or Engellex, we never were affected that much by the happenings on the continent. The same idea must remain nowadays. In the case of war between Thuringau-Lethonia and the larger Scanlaw against Tarusa or the Franks, Beira should remain safe and ignore the fact that Germania burns. The government is there to provide for the people, so it shouldn't concern itself with the meddlings of Germanians, who all have a tradition of fighting and destroying each other. Senhor Oscar Agustinho Passos is breaking the law every second the budget provides the education with less than 6% of the GDP and it has been a lot since 2015, when he himself pushed for the bill offering that percentage of funding. I saw this to Passos and the Cartistas and I have the backing of even the Trabalhistas: Leave Gallo-Germania to do its own thing, and return to the homeland and administer it as you were voted to do!" stated senhor Caio Queiros, the chairman of the Partido Restauradoro, in a press conference.

OTHER NEWS:
GALLO-GERMANIAN TROUBLES:
Rising tensions between the German members of Scanlaw and Tarusa, combined with the HFE discussing military enlargement programs, and the Scanlaw going through a crisis of leadership makes many analysts worry that the Pannonian episode might repeat, this time with much more bloodshed. The Ministry of External Affairs have issued a warning for Thuringau-Lethonia, Tarusa and the HFE, to limit travel only for important instances.

Cartistas push Same-Sex Family bill in Cortes Gerais

Senhor Oscar Agustinho Passos, the Prime Minister of the Reino Unido has announced that as a response to the blockages that appeared on the legal path towards the complete legalisation of same-sex marriage and recognition of LGBT people as full citizens in both the Pelasgian Empire and the Constitutional Empire of Justosia, as the supreme courts of both nations blocked any hope of their people to be recognised as a family if they are in a same sex relationship, the Reino Unido should become a model for the respect of its citizens, even if they don't fall into the traditionalist machist narrative of the nation.

The daily meeting in the Cortes Gerais was dominated today by the decisions of the Supreme Courts of Pelasgia and Justosia to block the recognition of foreign same-sex marriages. While both countries had no law where civil partnerships, let alone same-sex marriage being legal, such unions that were organised in foreign countries were sitting in a grey area, giving a hope to citizens who were either married outside or married with a foreign citizen to at least hope for recognition.

The subject was brought on to discussion in the Cortes Gerais by Senhora Albina Melo e Campos, a member of the Cortes from the Chartist Party, known for her activism especially during the early days of the 1980s, when the AIDS epidemic started. She has been officially married in Rheinbund with her current wife, Daria Radnitz, and they both have three sons. In the current Beiran law, their marriage is recognised, although the three sons are seen only as theirs as current legislation doesn't allow for children to have two parents of the same sex.

"Homosexuality and gay people, be them men or women or non-binary people have always been seen in history at their worst as the foreign disgusting import, or at their best, the funny, yet quite absurd sidekick. What the Pelasgian and Justosian authorities did now, isn't as they said, defended their traditions... that is just rhetoric, only for speeches. What they did was to close the door of their own citizens, as much as 5% of their population, being told that they will never enjoy the rights and dignity of being seen as a true Pelasgian or a true Justosian. No, in the name of God and morals, they would rather trample with the minds of those men and women and turn them into the others that are seen as the fall guy for every issue the country will have, especially as they will say it is all about morals. In their view it is the small children that need to be defended by the evil homosexual, who is there only to be an enemy, a menace, a threat. But they don't care, that there is a teenager, who will look around, see all that rhetoric and will feel left out. There will be that teenager who will develop risqué behaviours because its pushed into the undeground, where it will feel ashamed for what it is. I remember, as I was there back in the early 1980s, when AIDS hit Beira. I remember how everyone was ignoring the epidemic saying that its fine, because it afflicts only homosexuals. I remember how we were shamed, yet at the same time, we were told that we should not protest, because we were granted this favour, to be legal, not thrown into jail. That is why, I was openly disgusted with what I saw in Pelasgia and Justosia. I have personal friends that I know since the 80s, who preferred to come to Beira just to see themselves through a civil partnership, coming from Pelasgia or Justosia and they were hoping that sometime, they will feel at home back in their homelands, fully accepted. It is sad to see that they have been disappointed yet again. That is why, I believe that the time is right for our country to step up its game. Beira should join the club of nations that fully respects its citizens and offer full fledged marriage to everyone. Let every family be a family. Let my kids be my wife's kids too," stated senhora Albina Melo e Campos in her speech on the floor of the Cortes.

The Same Sex Family Bill is set to fully replace the civil partnership system currently active in the United Kingdom of Beira, which is being recognised in Natal and the Andros Isles too, with the official marriage. While as of yet no pressure is put on the Church to officiate marriages, all civic clerks will be obliged to officiate. The bill will also recognise the status of partners in a same sex marriage to be parents, current law stating that the children are actually in the responsibility of a single parent. As the Trabalhistas have always supported the legalisation, the law is expected to pass, with over 340 votes out of the 600 members of the House of Commons.

Pelasgian Empire
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
H.I.M. Embassy in Ribamar
- Public Statement -

№ 2/2022 | Circulation: Public | Urgency: Normal
Ribamar, 15/02/2022

To whom it may concern,

The Pelasgian Empire considers the remarks made by Mr. Oscar Agustinho Passos and Ms. Albina Melo e Campos highly offensive and patently untrue. Pelasgia respects and cares for all its citizens, which is precisely why it seeks to protect the very bedrock of its culture and society--the Family and the Faith--from erosion.

Marriage is between a man and a woman for the purposes of procreation, as God intended. Any other arrangement else is sterile and pointless. Much like one cannot turn a horse into a zebra by painting lines on its side, one cannot make a family out of two men or two women.

Pelasgia does not and never has denied full citizenship to any person on behalf of their sexual orientation. To affirm fundamental truths and to refuse to elevate falsehood to the status of truth by legislative decree does not constitute discrimination; it merely constitutes common sense.

We hope that our colleagues in Ribamar will henceforth conform their public remarks to common sense and decency.

Signed and sealed,

Andreas I. Metaxas
H.I.M. Ambassador to H.M. the King of Beira, Natal and Andros
Head of Mission
