Starting today, the NSEurope Encyclopedia goes live. You will notice a new entry at the top of the forum - Glossary - that hosts a list of all entries that have been created, this is also where you are able to create new glossary entries. Every user can also edit every article and an edit history is kept to ensure that no abuse of this feature will happen. One of the best features of this new system is that any and all references of a specific entry, say, Touzen, in a post or another glossary entry automatically links to that specific entry, with a small preview popping up as you hover over the link.

I feel that this update will significantly enhance the spread of IC lore and will help both old and new players to quickly find references. Characters, political systems, countries and corporations will no longer stay anonymous entities nobody knows, but will be easily accessible for all players.

Entries in the encyclopedia can be discussed in the cooperative corner like wiki articles, and I hope that many wiki articles will get transplanted to the glossary format so as to build a comprehensive, engaging and embedded index of NSEurope knowledge.

So, enjoy this new feature and please leave feedback and questions here.

This is fucking awesome Xen, just fucking fantastic. Another step towards ensuring NSEurope's dominance as the best national RP site ever. Btw, I edited Western Provinces because you had it say People's Republic of Yujin - there's no People's, it's just the Republic of. I like being able to edit other people's stuff, but I must express concern over potential silliness. I could see some creating definitions for things like yaks, goats, and camels of a certain height... is there a way to delete said ridiculous entries if/when they pop up

(Edit: also, I chose to make short entries, since I noticed a bad-ass window that opens up and shows a preview of it. My entries are designed to be short enough to be shown in entirety in said box)

Well, we are a nation RP site, not a national RP site, else you wouldn't be here. :p And sure, everyone having the ability to edit everything is intended for cases like that or cooperative article building. Definitions for stupid things will quickly be deleted.

Since the glossary is supposed to work like a wiki in last consequence, maybe you should write your preview in the first paragraph and continue from there?

I've started to see Glossary links appearing in my RP posts on certain country names as keywords. The prospect is, suffice to say, terrifying and thrilling for some reason.

This looks absolutely fascinating. I'm definitely going to concentrate on playing around with this today rather than the three-ish posts I originally intended to do uninterrupted (save for work and fencing club)

I request the addition of some new sub-categories. Right now everything goes in General Information, but it might look neater, especially as more entries are made, if we organised the entries into different categories, such as History, Geography, Millitary, etc.

I planned on doing that as soon as more articles are around and we have agreed on a general concept to organize the Encyclopedia.

Also, I changed the link color to a more subtle one, which should make texts with lots of encyclopedia references look a lot nicer. What do you think about the color?

Several categories have now been created. If you can't find a proper category to put your entries in, put them into the main General Information tab for now.

Is it possible to enable images for the glossary section, and just the glossary section, with a possible quick & nasty disclaimer that says image use is not intended to violate copyright? I, for one, would love to be able to have a Yujin National Revolutionary Army glossary section with images that show tanks, guns, planes, boats, etc., or have images of palaces and what not in Royal family glossaries, etc.

Is it possible to move any given "article" from one category to another?

I posted that I am having an error getting imagescript to function properly on Chrome using TamperMonkey, and it's also not working on my Firefox with Greasemonkey. So, if that problem could be addressed.... :D

Step One. Download Greasemonkey.

Step Two. Download the NSEuropeImage script that Xen provided somewhere.

Step Three. Edit the userscript to this (directly copypasta'd from mine, which is working.):
Code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name           NSEurope Image Enabler
// @namespace      http://userscripts.org/users/161086
// @description Displays links to images as actual images on the forums, bypassing the restrictions on images in posts. Shamelessly ripped from the Argomir Bethesa Forums Script.
// @include        http://www.ns-europe.eu/*
// @include        http://www.ns-europe.eu/forum/*
// @include        http://www.ns-europe.eu/wikim/*

function getIMGWidth(imgSrc){
    var newImg = new Image();
    newImg.src = imgSrc;
    var width = newImg.width;
    return width;
}

function importImages(){
    var maxWidth = 768; // RResizes images wider than the specified value. Change to something more to your likings if you find the images too small/large.

    var links = document.getElementsByTagName("a");
    if(links != null){

                if(getIMGWidth(link) > maxWidth){

Eiffelland said that there was a tool for Google Chrome called TamperMonkey, available from the store for free, which could work with the same code. I was hoping that that could be fixed, since I don't care for using Mozilla anymore. If not, I'll just go back to firefox for NSE.

I'm using Chrome with TaperMonkey to get images to work and I'm having absolutely no trouble with it. Xyrael, are you accessing the forum as just http:\\ns-europe.eu or as http:\\ The script (for Chrome, anyway) is written so that it works only for the latter, but editing one of the first few lines can easily fix that problem. Perhaps this is the reason it's not working for you?
