Sebastokrator Samaras calls for Pan-Pelasgian unity and cooperation
His excellency, Chrysanthos Fotios Samaras, Sebastokrator of the Realm of Cyrene has proclaimed that a new era must start, when the Pelasgian nations, are to look past their political differences and historical rivalries and begin cooperating and aligning closer to each other. The call was launched in a press conference at the end of the end of year congress of the Constitutionalist Party, and has taken many members both of the press and of the party by surprise. Historically, while the Carian Confederacy has managed to cement its republican tradition, both Aresura and Cyrene are still states emanating from the Anaxandrian conquests and the great medieval empire, and the latter two still both consider themselves Successors of the old empire, leaving the two as rivals. While during the years, both Caria and Aresura have grown economically, with both being very high developed nations, Cyrene has been still lagging behind, with a GDP/capita of about 20k EM, with the other two being nearly double. This is created quite a lot of resentment in many Cyrenians, many growing fearful that the Realm might end up being eaten by the other two. For this audience, today's speech has been a complete surprise.
His excellency has taken over the role of Sebastokrator two years ago, promising a revolution regarding the foreign policy of the realm, and while many commented that for such a long time, the promises have been lacking, the office of the Sebastokrator did announce this morning that his excellency Chrysanthos Fotios Samaras concentrated on internal policies in the first part of the mandate, and reminded the people that he will keep true of his promises to provide a breath of fresh air in the policies of the Cyrenian realm.
The Sebastokrator promised that in the future, Cyrene will work towards building cordial relations between the Pelasgian nations, and that it is of great importance to turn the historical rivals into the modern day friends, so that the Pelasgian nations can further their development, while also keeping Himyar and southern Gallo-Germania stable, referencing to the chaos of the collapse of Pannonia and of the end of the EF Mandates.
"It is important that Cyrene works together with Aresura and Caria to build the great family of Pelasgian peoples, as the great emperor and conqueror Anaxander always envisioned. It was just in the recent years that Aresura and Cyrene were in an arms race, ready to absurdly shed blood, but today, the world has changed, more than ever, and the push to decolonize Himyar and end the EF mandates can destroy the tranquility of the Pelasgian realms in Himyar, while the chaos in Pannonia has shown all Gallo-Germanian nations that the balance of powers is shifting, as old rivals become allies and ancient allies become tomorrow's enemies. I know that for many, a call for friendship with Aresura will be seen as preposterous if not even absurd, but the realities on the ground show that we must return to the dreams of the romanticists from the 19th century, and dream of Pan-Pelasgian Unity. We must bring the three brothers back together and see Cyrene, Aresura and Caria work together, aid each other, defend each other and further their advances in technology and economy, all while providing for their peoples and for their states," stated his excellency, Chrysanthos Fotios Samaras, Sebastokrator of Cyrene.
Loukas Lambrakis, the Chairman of Ergatiko Komma (EK), Labour Party, the main opposition party in the nation, has condemned the calls of the Sebastokrator, stating that while unity and friendship with the Carian Confederacy can be done with no issue, the calls of unity with the Holy Aresuran Empire are all but high treason and a betrayal of all the martyrs that have given their lives to the altar of freedom in the many Successor Wars that followed the end of the Anaxandrian Empire and in the rivalry that followed. "It is even a betrayal of the Jewish community here in Cyrene, who now will have no hope that we will aid them get their country in Isphilisteia back, so they can form modern Israel," stated Loukas Lambrakis.
