Eletrônicorp challenges Eiffelländer Patent

LIBERDADE - Brazulian electronics giant Eletrônicorp has challenged a patent for transistor radios by the Eiffelländer Rathenau Group. The patent, which was registered with Brazulian authorities as soon as the Rathenau Group announced the use of transistor technology for radios, would deny Brazulian companies the right to produce similiar transistor-based radios within the country, giving the Eiffelländer Rathenau Group a considerable edge over their Brazulian competitors. Eletrônicorp argues that the application of existing technology for a new purpose does not constitue a technological innovation that can be patented and monopolized and said it is willing to pursue their lawsuit to the highest authorities to achieve a landmark judgement on this issue.

Mayor to student union: there is no housing crisis
CAMBUCI - The Mayor of the southern Brazulian university city of Cambuci has adressed complaints by the national student union, rejecting claims that the city was facing a major housing shortage. According to mayor Pedro Covas, Cambuci is well prepared to take in the next semester of students seeking to study in the 100.000 citizen community. Cambuci, the mayor said, had no plans nor need for social housing project He furthermore argued that a rising demand on the housing market would be inevitably met with greater supply, stating that market equilibrium is as natural a law as gravity and evolution.

Brazulian chamber of commerce warns: business climate in Bangala harmful
BASSAKUSU (BANGALA) - The chamber of commerce has warned Brazulian companies against investments in the nation of Bangala, stating that the Bangalan authorities do not currently guarantuee a stable legal environment. Cause of this warning is the rash closure of the Bangalan Cross Bank over allegations of fraud, investigations into which are to start over the course of the weekend according to Bangalan news outlets. Both the speed with which the business of the Cross Bank was ended as well as the fact that investigations into the accusations of fraud are yet to be made has worried Brazulian investors. "Bangala can not currently guarantuee a stable business climate due to populist pressure," the head of the Brazulian chamber of commerce summarized.

Brazul stands to profit from an independent Faroers, President says
LIBERDADE - President João Serra, during a public press conference, stated that his government would seek to establish close economic and political ties with an independent Faroers. The Brazulian president said that both countries could profit from such cooperation and that Brazul was ready to discuss free trade with the minor island nation that only recently gained independence. With numerous Brazulian companies already exploring possible future business opportunities in the Faroers, the official government support for integrating the Faroers into the Occidentian economy comes a no surprise. It is expected that the Foreign Ministry will soon broker an official state visit of the President to the Faroers with the new government.

Opinion: Bangalan-Saareman deal leaves sour aftertaste

The deal struck between the governments of Bangala and Saarema must leave a sour aftertaste for anyone who believes in a free market, as the sudden takeover of a mayor Bangalan bank by foreign investors after being shut down on unproven charges of corruption, reeks of corruption. Brazuls chamber of commerce had already warned investors against involving themselves in Bangala, following the dubious legal procedures surrounding the Cross Bank's shutdown. Shockingly enough, investigations had only just started after the Cross Bank had already been shut down. But now, within mere days, the entire business has been handed to Saareman investors.

"There is no guarantuee that similiar actions will not be taken against Brazulian investments as well," the chamber of commerce has cautioned investors like Pharmabraz and Terra Verde Co., who had considered investments in the Himyari country. The Cross Bank Incident has raised concerns of expropriation in favour of third parties. This possibility is especially unsettling as none of the entrepreneurs of the Cross Bank were allowed a chance to defend themselves and their business against this transfer of private property in front of a court.

Announcements within the Saareman press indicate that the theft of the Cross Bank by the Bangalan government and its sale to the Saareman Keskpank had official backing by Saareman authorities. The Saareman premier has declared his intention to visit Bassakusu to broker a free trade agreement with the Bangalan government - a deal which Saarema claims would benefit both countries, as "the Himyari state will continue its development" while Saarema would profit from better export possibilities.

However, the hunger of a growing Saareman population for food and agricultural produce cited as possible benefit for Bangalan exports must be considered wholly unsatisfactory to make up for the industrial competition Bangalan manufacturers would gain from Saarema. It is obvious that export of food will not balance the import of industrial products and the Bangalan government would be ill-advised to consider this agreement. Nevertheless, it will likely pass, as the Saareman authorities had proven their good relations to the Bangalan oligarchs in the Cross Bank Incident and Saarema stands to gain a considerable advantage over competitors in Bangala.

Erdenshire may become target for Brazulian Himyar investments

LIBERDADE - The Brazulian chamber of commerce has adressed the public, stating that business analysts see opportunity for the Himyar business in the colony of Erdenshire and its territories, recently transferred from Danish rule to Asylan. Bordering Bangala, which had seen a sudden and sharp decline in investor confidence over its inability to guarantuee minimum legal standards in the Cross Bank Incident, Erdenshire is believed to be a viable alternative for Brazulian investments destined for Bangala until recently. The Brazulian farming company Terra Verde Co. has already announced its intention to inquire into the possibilites of land purchases in Erdenshire to produce cash crops for the Brazulian market.

However, the chamber of commerce also cautioned against rash decisions, noting that it was now Asylans duty to provide what Bangala could not: a stable legal framework and a reliable climate for investments. Failures to uphold the due process of the law like the Bangalan Cross Bank Incident could be just as damaging as insurgencies by natives or a lack of proper policing in the countryside. To adress these issues, Brazuls chamber of commerce has indicated its willingness to meet with Asylan colonial authorities.

Atlantis to be found at bottom of the Lago Carijó, claims author

CIUDADE ABOBRA - A Brazulian author has claimed to have found evidence that remains of the mythical city of Atlantis are to be found at the bottom of the Lago Carijó, between northern Brazul and Seneca. According to the thesis put forward in the book An Occidentian Empire, the lake was a fertile valley in antiquity, before the region was flooded in an unspecified cataclysmic event. "The lords of Atlantis ruled most of the Rio Azul valley and from there made voyages to Gallo-Germania and Himyar, where they established colonies and started most of their cultural developements," the author claims. "Brazuls history is longer and grander than anyone could have anticipated." While even more reputable historians have noted the possibility of rich indigenous cultural heritage buried at the bottom of the lake, expeditions to uncover artifacts and sites are unlikely, considering technical difficulties.

Historians and archaeologists of the New University of Pindorama would be most interested to further research the possible Lake Carijó Civilisation with the help of their Brazilian counterparts. It has long been the opinion of Pindoraman academics that Occidental peoples created societies far more complex and advanced than widely assumed.

Eletrônicorp challenges Eiffelländer Patent

Rathenau Gruppe Brazul S.L.

With all due respect, the transistor radio is new technology. Indeed, it is based on existing technologies, but the combination of several existing technologies led to a new technology. However, our lawyers will explain that in further detail before the Court.

Central Bank adjusts Key Interest Rate

LIBERDADE - Raising the key interest rate by half a percentage, the central bank of Brazul has reacted to warnings by leading economists that the Brazulian economy is overheating. A sudden spike in growth rates, particularily on the housing market and in property values has brought on fears of an economic bubble in these sectors. While the chamber of commerce is downplaying the risks, commenting that there is an imbalance of capital concentration and no general economic trend, the central bank clearly considers the risk real enough to take preventive measures. The adjustment will make speculative investments slightly less profitable, hopefully deterring the massive over-concentration of capital in unproductive sectors without chokin the economy as a whole.

Liberdade worried about situation in Implarian

LIBERDADE - The Brazulian government has expressed its worries about the situation in the Implarian region, noting the concentration of revolutionary upheaval beyond the western shores. Noting the unrest in both Touzen and Yujin, as well as the Danish Implarians, President Serra has called the threat posed by radicals "a grave danger for freedom and economic prosperity." Authorities in Liberdade have expressed their interest in cooperation with regional actors to contain the violence and the Navy has ordered the Third Fleet from its homebase on the east coast to be relocated to the Implarian.

Government grants unlimited asylum rights to Danish refugees

LIBERDADE - The Brazulian government has announced its willingness to take in an unlimited amount of refugees from the territories of former Danmark, which was taken over by left-wing revolutionaries over the course of the last months. This announcement comes after several weeks of intense negotiations between leading Danish businessmen and the Brazulian Foreign Ministry. Many former government officials, enterpreneurs and intellectuals are fleeing the country as the new regime consolidates its power and established totalitarian control through local councils, dominated by communist mobsters. Brazuls danophone community has welcomed the decision of the Foreign Ministry and announced a humanitarian campaign to help refugees settle into Brazulian society, acquire language skills and find jobs.

State relocates indigenous tribe at Rio Trinidade

SALVADOR DO NORTE - One week after the verdict had been reached by judges at the state court, an indigenous tribe which had settled at the Rio Trinidade was forced to relocate further west by units of the gendermeria. The natives had seized the land following an earthslide that had rendered the remote wilderness of their reservation inhospitable. However, their new home was property of the Mineração Brazul Co., Brazuls largest mining company who intends to dig for bauxit in the area. The lawsuit of MB, which is part of the Conglomerado Brazul, forced the tribe back to its reservation despite claims that they could no longer sustain themselves there. Judges as well as spokespeople of MB both recommended the natives to find paying employment instead.

Sylvanian plans for Faroers 'worrying', says President

LIBERDADE - President Serra, during a public press conference, has called the Sylvanian plans to not just continue use of military facilities on the Faroers, but to expand them to become the major fleetbase of the Sylvanian navy in the Thaumantic, worrying and dangerous to regional stability. "In Brazuls opinion, there is no strategic need for such a Sylvanian base, unless it plans to interfere with the sovereign matters of fellow Occidentian nations in the future." The President advised the Sylvanian government to reconsider the necessity of its plans, lest it jeopardize its relations with its regional neighbours. Sylvanian authorities have announced a major fleet maneuver to be commenced in two weeks and President Serra has announced his intention to order units of the First Fleet to monitor the Sylvanian operations.

Gruesome double-murder by radicals in former Danmark

REVAL (FORMER DANMARK) - Two business associates of the Brazulian based Eletrônicorp have reportedly been lynched by communist radicals near the city of Reval in former Danmark. The married couple, who had reportedly been tasked with labor-negotiations for Eletrônicorp in Danmark prior to the civil war, was dragged out of its home and hanged from a nearby lamppost, the Brazulian consulate in former Danmark reports. "We are shocked and appalled," the Foreign Ministry commented, stating that the chaotic situation in former Danmark is the direct result of the destructive influence of communist radicals. "If the new government does not distance itself in the strongest possible terms from such violence and takes measure to rebuild a stable climate for business, it will find itself unable to gain international recognition," the Brazulian government warned.

Businessmen from Ommeroth, Seneca, Centralia, Sylvania invited to North-Occidentian Industrial Ball

LIBERDADE - The chamber of commerce has invited numerous distinguished businessmen from northern-Occidentia to participate in a socialite event to be hosted in the building of the chamber of commerce in Liberdade. According to the chamber of commerce, the event is intended as a chance to improve business relations in the region, socialize and find partnerships for future commerce. Scheduled for the pompous ball are not only a gourmet buffet and a dance night with Brazuls finest jazz artists and singers, but also an opera night on friday and a beach reception with champagne and cocktails on Sunday. Visitors will be received free of charge by the Liberdade Republican Hotel, one of Brazuls finest adresses.

Government to develope new security plans for Implarian shipping

LIBERDADE - The Brazulian government has announced its intention to review and redraw security plans for shipping in the Implarian region, stating that the increasing global influence of revolutionary radicals threatens Brazulian interests. President Serra warned that anarchist radicals in Touzen or former Danish territories would hold international law in little regard and that piracy is an increasingly serious threat to civilian shipping in the Implarian Ocean. He stressed his governments intention to work together with regional actors to contain anarchist influences and criminal activity, but that Brazul would also be willing take necessary measures at its own responsibility.

President to visit Bangala

BASSAKUSE (BANGALA) - President João Serra has agreed to visit the Himyari nation of Bangala, his office announced in an official press release. Bangalan-Brazulian relationship had been strained over Brazulian worries about legal security in the independent Himyari country, following the sudden closure and sale to Saareman investors of the Cross Bank by the Bangalan government, which raised charges of corruption and deterred Brazulian investors. "I will strive to adress Brazulian worries and achieve a new understanding with the Himyari government, which will regain trust in the Bangalan market," the President commented when asked for his goals with this visit.

Government condemns tension in Long Sea

LIBERDADE - President Serra has condemned the tensions between the Long Sea states of Arretium and Ionia, stating that the behaviour of neither state is productive to the overall regional athmosphere. As states in the Long Sea, the Brazulian government stated, both nations share a special responsibility to maintain Europes most important trade route safe and open. While the President stressed that both states have been behaving irresponsibly, the main target of his criticism was Ionia, condemning what President Serra perceived as "overreaction" and "blatant warmongering". According to the President, neither Ionias strongly worded reaction to an Arretine newspiece about an alleged wish of inhabitants of an Ionian island wishing to join Arretium, nor her recent announcement of a fleet expansion programme were in the best interest of the European community.

Brazul recognizes new Saareman government

LIBERDADE - The Brazulian government has formally recognized the new, democratic Saareman government, led by social-democrats. In an official press release, the Foreign Ministry stressed its belief that the recent changes in the Saareman administration were necessary and in the best interest of the country and furthermore expressed its satisfaction with the new governments willingness to investigate and reappraise the nations recent attempts at imperialistic expansion. Brazulian diplomats returning to the embassy in Saarema wished the new administration good luck and expressed Liberdades interest in developing a strategic partnership with the young democracy.

Brazul condemns Ionian government, expresses worry about freedom of the Long Sea

LIBERDADE - As tensions flare up between the Arretine Empire and the nation of Ionia, the Brazulian government expresses its concern about freedom of the seas in the affected region. News of Ionian forces engaging an Arretine battlecruiser outside of its national waters and forcing it to withdraw have led to swift condemnation by the Brazulian government and the Ionian ambassador was summoned to explain his governments behaviour and receive a formal note of protest. Brazuls Foreign Ministry stressed that "an exclusive economic zone is not sovereign territory and the intercepting of ships in so considerable a distance to a states' national borders is a very worrying conduct." The Foreign Ministry called upon both nations to back down and resolve the tensions.

Banco Brazul suffers severe losses at stock market

LIBERDADE - Following a leaked internal report estimating a possible loss of 2 billion Dólar over the fall of the Danish government to revolutionary radicals, the Banco Brazul has suffered drastic setbacks at the stockmarket in Liberdade. Opening at almost 200 Dólar, the stocks of Brazuls largest bank closed at a loss of more than 20 Dólar, leaving the CEO of the Banco Brazul looking positively desperate. Prior to the opening of the stock exchange on this day, Banco Brazul tried to alleviate concerns of investors and stressed that it will seek out negotiations with the regime styling itself Wendziema, but to no avail. Investors apparently do not trust the company to bring these negotiations to a profitable end.

No recognition: Brazul remains steadfast against socialist regime

LIBERDADE - President Serra has emphasized his governments position on the new government in the territories of former Danmark, stating that Brazul will not recognize a government that threatens to violate fundamental rights of its own and foreign citizens, including property rights. "The recognition of its duty to pay debts - without negotiation, without requiring any forms of political reciprocity - is a prerequisite to any legitimacy this regime can hope to acquire." Serra stressed that any kind of expropriation, especially of Brazulian property, by the socialist regime that has toppled the Danish empire will only move hopes of normalization of their relationship into distant future. The Brazulian refusal to recognize the self-proclaimed nation of Wendziema also has consequences for the Banco Brazul, which has estimated a possible loss of 2 billion Dólar should Wendziema refuse to take on Danish debts. Though Wendziema has signalled willingness to negotiate with the Banco Brazul as private company, the lack of official Brazulian recognition is limiting the possibilities to arrange any possible payment.

Government to pay for losses of Banco Brazul

LIBERDADE - As a consequence of the revolution in former Danmark and the projected losses the Banco Brazul fears, the Brazulian government has presented a bill to the senate, proposing to cover for the estimated 2 billion Dólar the Banco Brazul has lost. The stock value of the Banco Brazul had been in free fall ever since the internal report about the loss of money to the Danish revolution was leaked to the public and the Minister of Commerce and Industry has commented that this fallout of a political developement should not be allowed to jeopardize the position of Brazulian banking on the global market. "Two billion Dólar in guarantuees are a small price to pay compared to the confidence in the Brazulian economy this buys. This government intends to send a signal that Brazulian companies always have their government behind them."

Sirs,

The stubbornness of the Brazulian Republic to recognize the de facto and de jure situation in the Rzeczpospolita Wendziema is deeply troubling, as it signals to the Wendowie the desire of the Brazulians to ignite a crisis that need not occur, a scenario that Banco Brazul understands and has announced it is willing to pursue. It thus suffers through the greed of its government, a greed that is ironic in the consequences it creates in the very institutions of capitalism. We repeat our willingness to negotiate with the Banco Brazul, an institution that has recognized the authority of the Wendowie over the lands and peoples of the former Dansk Reich, and our willingness to negotiate with the Brazulian Republic provided that it do what the Banco Brazul practices: treat the Wendowie as equal partners on the international stage, hardly an unreasonable request to the Wendowie. It remains to be seen if the Brazulians continue to see it as unreasonable.

Sincerely,
Boleslaw Zalenski

Banco Brazul and Saareman Keskpank announce merger plans

LIBERDADE - In a surprising press announcement following bad performance on the stock markets and massive predicted losses due to the revolution in Danmark, the Banco Brazul presented plans for a merger with the equally troubled Saareman Keskpank. The Saareman Keskpank was strongly involved in the plans of the old autocratic regime to colonize and subvert the independent nation of Bangala and had acquired the Bangalan Cross Bank through dubious means. Political crisis in Saarema left the Keskpank struggling, much like the dispute over Danish debts caused a downward spiral for the stock value of the Banco Brazul. The plans for the merger foresee a mutual purchase of stocks, with the Banco Brazul acquiring a majority of the smaller Keskpank and integrating it as subsidiary company, but maintain it as independent brand. A detailed financing plan has not yet been revealed and the cartel offices of both countries have yet to voice their agreement.

Seneca buys Danish debt

SCARBURH (SENECA) - The Occidentian state of Seneca has announced a purchase of half the debt sum of the former Danish regime in exchange for an agreement that Wendziema acknowledges the outstanding sum as its own. As consequence of the agreement, Wendziema is formally recognized by Seneca. Brazulian President João Serra has commended the Senecan government for its efforts and their initiative, however stating that Brazul will not pursue similiar compromises, perceiving them as 'rotten'. "The issue of debt is one of many that the new regime in the former Danish territories will have to tackle out of its own volition before any trust can be placed into it as legitimate representation of a people," President Serra elaborate. "The government styling itself as 'Wendziema' will have to show it respects the individual rights of its subjects as well as those of foreign nationals, including the right of property. It must create a stable and amicable business environment to foster trade and international cooperation." For the time being, the President stressed, the lack of a recognition by Brazul limits opportunities for private actors to strike deals with the regime in former Danmark.

Judges rule against Eiffelländer patent

LIBERDADE - Brazulian judges have ruled a patent by the Eiffelländer company Rathenau Group as unlawful, stating that their patent on transistor radios does not include an independent innovative feat, but rather only constitutes the application of an existing technology to a new task. The trial against the Eiffelländer patent was sought by the Brazulian Eletrônicorp, a major producer of electronic appliances, fearing for their market share should the Eiffelländer Rathenau Group get exclusive rights over this technology. Following the verdict, Eletrônicorp announced its intention to seek to have Eiffelländer patents on transistor radios overturned in other countries as well, commenting that patents on new appliances for existing technologies were "absurd". "No one would grant us different patents on the use of an axe for cutting down different kinds of trees. The use of transistors for a common appliance like a radio should not be worthy of a patent."

We completely disagree with the view of the judges that overruled our patent. Therefore, we appeal to a higher court against this verdict.

Cartel Offices give green light to Banco Brazul - Keskpank merger

LIBERDADE / KURESSAARE (SAAREMA) - Cartel offices in both Saarema and Brazul have ruled the planned merger between the Banco Brazul and the Saareman Keskpank to be legal, stating that the fusion does not constitue a threat to the market structure of either country. Brazulian monopoly watchdogs were less reserved than their Saareman counterparts, but the removal of de-facto state powers from the privately owned Keskpank and the plans for a new modern central bank in Saaremaa, ending the corporatist system of the former authoritarian regime, have alleviated concerns that the national mint may end up in the hands of a foreign investor. Both the Banco Brazul and the Keskpank have seen the first recovery of their stock value in weeks and the attempts to acquire a majority of the Keskpank by Banco Brazul drives the price for shares of especially the Keskpank.

Student riots in Cambuci

CAMBUCI - Protests over a perceived housing crisis turned violent in the southern Brazulian city of Cambuci, as students hurled bricks at the office of Cambuci mayor Pedro Covas. Covas had drawn the ire of left-wing student associations and radicals beyond the campus with his insistence in may that Cambuci does not suffer from a housing crisis and that calls for social housing projects were premature. Following the attacks, officers of the Guardia Federal dissolved the protest, which devolved in fights between protestors and police, resulting in seven injuries amongst officers. Mayor Covas commented on the protests, deploring the willingness to use violence by students radicalized by anarchist agitators and alleging that they were "merely unwitting pawns" used by forces who sought to disrupt the freedom of enterpreneurship by forcing stronger government involvment.

Eiffelländer appeal to patent decision dismissed

LIBERDADE - The appeal by the Eiffelländer Rathenau Gruppe against a court decision overruling their patent on transistor radios on the ground that application of existing technology to a new purpose is not a genuine engineering feat, was dismissed by the board of appeals in Liberdade. In a press release, the judges of the board of appeals argue that the Rathenau Gruppe failed to provide any new evidence nor cite legal errors by the court which passed the verdict on the patent case, leading the board of appeals to judge that a new trial could not possibly come to a different decision. With its decision, the board of appeals has closed the door for the Eiffelländers to insist on sole production rights for transistor radios in Brazul, save for a petition to the supreme court of Brazul, which is unlikely to accept such. Brazuls Eletrônicorp has welcomed the decision, announcing its intention to contest the patent in all countries of Europe in which the Rathenau Group has registered the patent and stating that it has already done so in Seneca, Saareema and the far eastern realm of the so called Eternal Empire.

Rathenau Gruppe Brazul S.L.

The Rathenau Gruppe has decided to not appeal at the Supreme Court of Brazul. We have all the confidence in our transistor radios to challenge the radios produced by Electrônicorp. People will find out that the well thought-out transistor radios produced by Schwarzpunkt are superior to the cheap and hastily assembled "me-too" copies offered by Electrônicorp.
