The Anti-State of Touzen

Dear Dictator Hayabusa,

I am writing to you today in continuation of a partnership between the Anti-State and the Republic that has existed long before my presidency and is my hope that the relationship continues far past my presidency. The culture of the Touzenese has long found fascination amongst the Aurarians and that cultural fondness has evolved into a multitude of trade agreements and exchanges that have further bonded our peoples.

It is with that history in mind that this letter was crafted. While I cannot control the thoughts and feelings of my peoples, I can direct the foreign policy of my government. As the Head of State of the Aurarine Republic and the Commander-in-Chief of the Republic’s Armed Forces, I am stating that Post-Delegationism as an ideology is not an enemy nor a threat to this country. The ideology has a long history in Auraria and the contributions of its thinkers have undoubtedly contributed to the creation of one of Europe’s most liberated, progressive society.

However, I cannot understate the concern that I have to the security of the Republic and the nations of the Long Sea at large with the Commonwealth of Pohjanmaa’s stance that its ideology is threatened. That Commonwealth’s open admittance to engaging in routine military deployments across the globe – but in particular the Long Sea – in order to gather military intelligence on states it deems enemies, concerns me.

The Aurarine Republic will not compromise in defending the right of nations to travel freely and unmolested in the Long Sea. The Aurarine Republic will not compromise in its commitment, nay responsibility, to defend itself from all threats – both foreign and domestic. The current actions of Pohjanmaa stand as a threat to that commitment and responsibility.

As an ally, I am requesting that the Anti-State reach out to convince the Pohjanmaans to reconsider their military activity in the Long Sea and join the international community at large in preserving peace, instead of provoking conflict.

I look forward to your reply.

All the best,

Colleague Sanabria,

I thank you for reaching out to me pertaining to matters that you, representing the Aurarine Republic, consider to be a source of potential dissonance between our polities. I will answer as diligently as I can in respect of the friendship between liberty loving peoples.

The issue of the Long Sea, is, at its heart, a conspiracy against free passage. The bodies of those slaughtered in the Retalian had not even cooled before a concert of voices from all corners of the globe was howling for making the Long Sea save from the 'threat of piracy'.

What threat of piracy?

Up until this day, I have not received, either through the arsenal of intelligence heroes of the Anti-State, nor through diplomatic engagement, any convincing proof that there is indeed an immediate risk of a resurgent age of piracy in the Long Sea. A singular incident, which has been claimed to involve piracy, is being used as a pretense towards militarization of the Long Sea. It is a shameless and deviant spectacle, and I trust that the Aurarine Republic sees through the agitations that threaten the lifeline of the Anti-State to our commercial interests in the West, and the wellbeing of all freedom loving entertainers of commerce that rely on the Long Sea as a conduit for their trade activities.

There often is a fundamental misunderstanding regarding the nature of the relationship Shinkyô enjoys with its Northern colleagues. We are colleagues, partners, allies even, but fundamentally the people of Pohjanmaa forge their own destiny, unlike the enslaved millions forced to prostrate themselves before the caesars of Ivar and Villesen. I can make suggestions to them, as you made to me, and I will be happy to oblige to, as soon as I have finished writing this letter, suggest to our Northern friends a modus of conduct that is reassuring to the agreeable polities in Gallo-Germania as would without any doubt of course include your Republic, but it will be ultimately up to the citizenry of Pohjanmaa to make their decisions. At times it is frustrating for our friends across the globe that we cannot, by design, speak with one voice, but it is this chorus of different voices that is both our strength and weakness.

To return to the issue of piracy, I feel, Colleague Sanabria, that it is intrinsically linked to the military operations by the Free Navy that you have now shown to be concerned about. In fact, the movement of the Free Navy is a direct challenge to put action behind words: To allow the unhindered transit of ships through international waters shared by all. It must come at no secret to you that the Continental Navy is itself operating across the globe in perpetual service to our polity, our ships patrol the high seas in service of our ideals, to destroy the scourge of the seven seas, the slavers, while our submarines are on silent watch against threats to liberty everywhere. Likewise, I know that Aurarine forces treat similarly in service of their state, their Republic, and to open the eyes of Solis far beyond its immediate borders, because vigilance begets freedom secured.

The piracy myth is one side of the coin of an attempted limitation of navigational freedom in the Long and Retalian Seas. The other is framing the post-delegationist military deployments to be unique, and dangerous to the friends of freedom.

Colleague Sanabria, I will render my service to any cause that will lead to an understanding between the Aurarine Republic and the Commonwealth of Pohjanmaa. But I am convinced that Pohjanmaan, certainly Anti-Statist, naval operations across the globe are for the sake of the same causes you hold sacred, not to hinder or impair your own designs for the Long Sea. In an ocean of enemies, we sail together.

Colleague Sanabria,

I am following up with another letter to inform you of my intention to recall our ambassador from Solis by next week in protest of your decision to cooperate with the Engellexic ODEIS initative and your explicit endorsement of hostile action against "non-state actors", which I consider to be a direct threat against the Anti-State. This decision is also deliberately taken in the context of your apparent disinterest in engaging me on the points that I have brought up towards you in my previous writing, handed to you in good faith and convinced that policy differences could be addressed in a way befitting of long-standing friends and partners in a world dominated by autocratic despots. This faith seems to have been misplaced, given that you have decided to side with the slavers without even engaging in further dialogue with our side.

Given the nature of the friendship between our polities and as a sign of my continued good will, my intention is to proceed in this matter in a face-saving manner for your administration. It is unfortunate that Ambassador Kobayashi will fall ill next week, requiring an extended medical visit back home in Shinkyô. Due to his "deep appreciation by the Aurarian side" and his "connections in the local political scene", the Office of Revolutionary Defense and State Relations will opt not to appoint a new ambassador, given that it will have "full confidence that Ambassador Kobayashi will return to his post soon enough". Consular duties will be handed by the staff on the ground in the meantime.

The Anti-State's doors will remain open for dialogue, but we cannot accept the imperialist initiative aimed at destroying our way of life.

The Honorable Hayabusa
Dictator
The Anti-State

Dear Dictator Hayabusa,

It is with great regret to have received this letter notifying my administration of the Anti-State’s intention to recall Ambassador Kobayashi from Solis. In this time of increased danger and tensions, the cessation of dialogue between countries can never be seen as a positive development.

The special relationship between the Republic and the Anti-State, and the allegations listed, compels me to offer justification for the recent decision to cooperate with the Engellexic Republic’s ODEIS initiative. The initiative in question is the first of its kind to not flex the host nation’s military might but instead build consensus and cooperation of regional players concerned with the safety of their citizens and maritime trade.

I need not address history that is known quite well by us both, but I am behooved to bring to your attention the recent attack on Tauritania. The Republic Air Force intercepted a freighter that had entered Aurarian territorial waters. This freighter was abandoned and rigged to explode with a course heading directly toward Tauritania – the second largest city in Auraria, home to millions and the country’s biggest port. Had the ship reached its target, the damage that could have been done not only to the economy of the Republic, but the innocent lives who are at risk, will haunt me.

You tell me that the piracy of the Long Sea is a myth orchestrated as an excuse to heighten militarization of the Long Sea yet my country was attacked and the Anti-State followed by increasing its own military assets in spite of Aurarian protest. The Aurarine Military is working quickly to determine exactly who orchestrated this attack against the Republic and in doing so we cannot excuse the fact that the actors may have no allegiance to a state and thus be non-state actors. The Republic does not equate pirates to the peoples of the Anti-State and I would trust that you know that and further would not allow semantics to get in the way of a positive attempt to build cooperate between countries.

Freedom is not limited to the notion of choosing one’s destiny but to also know that your safety and health are protected. The Republic will not relent to the preservation of peace and security for our peoples. If partners in this mission arise, the Republic will work with them to accomplish these goals.

The doors of the Republic will always remain open, likewise. In any case, should this be the path that the Anti-State embarks on, then: we wish Ambassador Kobayashi a quick and complete recovery.
