“This is inconceivable,” barked the Chancellor.
“Quiet,” replied the High King.
“To Solis, you’re bringing them to Solis?” the Chancellor continued.
“Not bringing, more like brought. They are here of course,” the High King answered.
“You’ve made so many enemies since approaching this throne, there’s no sense to create even more!” the Chancellor yelled.
“I couldn’t agree more, that’s why they’re here,” the High King remained resolute.
“Have you not memory of our history?” the Chancellor asked.
“I’m sure whatever I lack in history I make up for in perception of the present day. Tell me, Señor Arturo, which is more valuable?” the High King answered.
Democracy, a word coined and created by the Ionians, has spread across the globe. It infected nation after nation, toppling power amongst the rightful for hundreds of years. Today, only a few nations saw their aristocracies remaining in power and few were as absolute as Auraria. Out of necessity, two old enemies were reunited at the table.
The High King signaled for the Chancellor to remain behind as he continued. He was wearing a royal cloak, red with gold trim. This tradition was namely only something that House Calderón did, but it was catching popularity with the arrival of the Calderón Dynasty.
The High King entered a room, opened a door to find a balcony that overlooked the Bay of Solis. He sat down on the ornate furniture. The sky was a rich, cloudless blue and the water especially clear. The sound of the ocean in the background and the warmth of Auraria’s southern summers provided a near mesmerizing scenery. Then, the doors to the balcony were opened and in walked the Arretine Emperor. For the first time in history, the Aurarine High King and Arretine Emperor were within one hundred feet of each other.
The High King rose
“Your Majesty, allow me to welcome you to Solis, the Jewel of the Aurarine Kingdom, would you like a drink?” he asked.
