About us

The Saxe-Friesken-Polaben State Ministry of the Grand Ducal House and Foreign Affairs (Sächsisch-friesisch-polabisches Staatsministerium des Großherzoglichen Hauses und des Äußern) was founded in 1804 during the reign of Grand Duke Albrecht III, who achieved the status as a Grand Duchy from the Pope in April of that year. The Ministry is unique in that it is maintained by the State Minister of the Grand Ducal House and Foreign Affairs who also serves similarly to a head of government in many other countries. Saxe-Friesken and Polaben does not have a president, chancellor, or prime minister so to speak, as the Grand Duke (or Duchess), is both Head of State and Head of Government. The State Minister of the Grand Ducal House and Foreign Affairs is the highest civilian position and is appointed by the Grand Duke, typically from the largest party, or party coalition in the Diet. The position principally is the foreign affairs minister seen in other nations, but also plays a large role in domestic governance as well within the Diet and as part of the Grand Ducal cabinet that is led by the Grand Duke (or Duchess). With such a large mandate given to this office and ministry, the focus can vary from minister to minister. Traditionally the "S.F.P. Staatsministerium D.G. Hauses U.D. Äußern" will always place the greatest importance on the relations of the Grand Duchy with foreign powers, as well the representation and protection of the Grand Duke's (or Duchess') loyal subjects in their affairs both foreign and domestic.

Historically, the Ministry was in charge of everything from representation of the church in court affairs, tax collection, the constitution, the postal service, princely law, and feudal issues. Today the Ministry only continues a few select additional responsibilities including achieves of the house and state, the granting of nobility and the maintenance of the noble register, and the awarding of medals. Until the mid-20th century only nobles were allowed to helm the Ministry, this changed with Maximilian IV's discussion in 1958 to grant the job to Karl Bühl, formerly the leader of the Conservative Party at the time. It is customary for any Minister to resign from any party obligations and maintain a non-partisan stance while serving in the role.

Politik und ziele
Policy and goals

The current important policies of the Grand Duchy are the safe passage of commerce within the Gothic Sea, the promotion of peace and order within Gallo-Germania, and the security of all foreign possessions of the Grand Duke. The Grand Duchy is a member of the European Forum, although currently a non-participant due to the lack of a discussion center. The Grand Duke places importance on relations with all monarchal crowns in the world, and extends general friendship to royal and noble families.

It is a goal for the Grand Duchy at the moment to explore membership within the Hanseatic Republics. Certain barriers exist to this development and this Ministry looks investigate the nature of these barriers and weigh the balance of the positives and negatives of such membership becoming a reality. Historically, the Grand Duchy has maintained a policy of neutrality, and "pro-Germanism" looking to maintain stronger ties with the Germanic speaking peoples of Gallo-Germania. This policy of neutrality is considered increasingly risky by a November 2023 assessment of the foreign policy of the Grand Duchy, "Reflections Upon Gothic Sea Foreign Politics" carried out by the civil servants of the S.F.P. Staatsministerium D.G. Hauses U.D. Äußern. Currently, the Grand Duchy maintains no foreign alliances, or membership in any foreign or supranational organization beyond the priorly mentioned European Forum.

Membership of other foreign supranational organizations may be considered, but currently are not being actively pursued by the Grand Duchy.

Auslandsverpflichtungen
Foreign commitments

The current commitments held by the Grand Duchy are few. While the Grand Duchy does not pursue a path of isolationism, it has traditionally been believed that extensive or excessive commitments are poor for policies of strategic neutrality and the protection of sensitive industries including porcelain, microchips, beer, and jewelry.

G.J. Busch also looks to solidify relationships with his neighbors, and has continued to promise the safety and sovereignty of neighboring Salen, while looking to normalize and expand relations with the Hanseatic Republics and Ostmark. Maintaining friendly relationships with the Empire of Tarusa, Federation of Westernesse, and Thaumantica are also key points of his policies; however, with the Grand Duke's interest in Hanseatic membership, G.J. In Public & Almshouses we value dialogue and discourse, profound expressions of grievance, as well as affectionate amity. The European Forum, so slain, was such a place until it was targeted and destroyed. We have become aware of the @Saxe-Friesken and Polaben plan to plan a new forumage system and will join it ever so enthusiastically.

No one man, community, or nation destroyed the European Forum alone. Before last year's violent end there were powers and people who sought to command the world and become penultimate as its owner and voice. We have spent long hours with the Aldermen in Frescania, our dear and close friends, and have learned that the weight of bearing the world's grievances broke their noble backs.

One city cannot host all of the world's their war elephants, their lost doves, the serpents nor raging apes and survive. Vesper did bring some countries together this year as Wien in Ostmark succeeded in the previous annum, however, all such places would become corrupted if invested too long soiled betwixt the excrement and copulation of a global zoo.

Instead we profess a desire for well marked and guaranteed sites for public discourse and that hosts mark and guarantee their summits. Vesper can create such a temporary site before rotating to another, and we must identify others such as Wien and Siebethsburg.

Esteemed friend,

The Grand Duchy of Saxe-Friesken and Polaben fully endorses the idea of a rotating and moving summits. There is was the question of in the mind of Grand Duke Heinrich VII von Oberding-Innhausen of bureaucracy, databases, order, and other infrastructure typically done by bureaucrats. Grand Duke Heinrich VII is of the belief that the Grand Duchy is well suited for the status of such a placeholder, while summits travel the world. In the long run, the Grand Duke, should he ascend to the position of leader of the European Forum believes that bureaucracy should also be dispersed throughout the world, with his first vision being the establishment of a European Red Cross in Wien, a European Humanitarian Agency in Vesper, a European Assistance Bank in Vrijpoort, and formalizing existing organizations in their current homes. The Grand Duke also believes in appointing summit meeting sites, one on each continent plus nations of great merit and influence.

The Grand Duke is more than happy to host a summit in Friedrichsruhe in order to begin the process, whether or not the Grand Duke's complete vision comes true, it is important for the process to begin.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

G.J. Busch
Minister of the Grand Ducal House and Foreign Affairs

Our Great Friends in @Saxe-Friesken and Polaben we have heard you,

Th laws of immigration of this Order, being so very particular, and our reticence to spread alms abroad make an investment of some such European Humanitarian Agency inappropriate for Vesper down-Cannie or any communal city. Further, there are significant powers the world over who would distrust on face value any organization centered in a Thaumantic hub.

Vesper is still slotted to invite a Women's World Cup tournament this summer, acting as a temporary host to the world, and indeed we will do so. In summer as well Vesper might act as a temporary, should such need arise, place of meeting for voices in conference - but - those who do not wish to commit to communalism must ultimately disembark and return home.
