Imperial government to roll back liberal reform; vows crackdown...

Imperial government to roll back liberal reform; vows crackdown...

Kaas City - The Imperial Office of the Grand Moff announced this evening that several austerity measures, democratic (notably, municipal and sector elections) and market reforms, would be rolled back. Quoting a "recent surge in democratic, and subversive trends", the Grand Moff vowed that the military and local security forces would crack down on any subversive elements seeking to undermine the "efficiency, and loyalty of the Imperial Government".

In a recent Kaas Poll, the vast majority (67% of those interviewed, +/- 3% moe) of citizens approve of the current government, with only 33% opposed, but only because certain market elements preclude their full integration into Imperial society. Recent downswings in the economy have caused several thousands of citizens to lose their jobs and fortunes, and only now are they beginning to fully recover. While democratic elements have crept ever so slowly into the Imperial Oversector, it is clear that a return to a Republic is out of the question, and not what the people desire.

Reforms reaching completion; constituion ratified...

KAAS CITY
- With the government wrapping up operations in southern Dromund Kaas, the office of the Grand Moff announced today that a complete reorganization of the government will be completed over a process of three years, beginning with the adoption of a new constitution, implementation of provincial, and city popular elections. A new electoral body, the Parliament, will be created using a model of popular election and with one third of the seats being appointed by the office of the Grand Moff. Soon, the office of Grand Moff will be succeeded by the Office of President, which will make most of the nominal daily decisions of the nation.

The armed forces will not be affected by the governmental changes underway.

Balmorran rebel stronghold falls, marking end of 3-year conflict...

BALMORRA - The fall of the rebel stronghold of Balmorra marks the end of a three year old struggle to stamp out the elements of radical marxism within Dromund Kaas. The military had begun a campaign to root out the rebel dissidents earlier in the year and it had culminated in a three month siege of the southern city of Balmorra.

The rebel group,
Parti communiste dromund, or Communist Party of Dromund, had been recruiting active fighters for the better part of a decade before finally taking the city itself as it's headquarters and hanging several prominent nationalists. The event marked the beginning of the civil "war". Since then scores of people have been wounded, with hundreds among the dead.

Estimates point to casualties for the rebels to be at least two hundred, while State forces suffered light to minimal casualties, and the loss of one aircraft.

Delegate blasts Solaren government on hostage crisis...

Council of Nations
- The Imperial delegate to the Council of Nations, one Bouris Ulgo, blasted the Solaren diplomat in a scathing attack on his government's handling of the nearly 4.000 hostages currently being held outside a Solaren coal mining area. The delegate referred to an obvious ulterior motive that was hampering the resolution of the problem, and cited a lack of initiative to "get things done", as he told an STN reporter earlier this evening after the exchange.
