After observing the increasing international turmoil concerning the independence of the Democratic Republic of Augustaborg from the Eastern Cape the Ionian Confederacy would like to state that we do not wish to see a war over such petty issues that could be easily resolved through cooperation. With the mobilization of a Carentanian Naval Force which passed right next to the Ionian Himyari Territory on its way to the Eastern Cape, we have decided to temporarily close off all Ionian Territorial Waters in the Long Sea to Military Ships of all nations headed for the Eastern Cape unless they have direct permission from the Ionian government to pass through our Territorial waters. Though this choice of ours will cause a minor delay in the arrival of all such ships we do not aim to favor or sabotage any one side respectively but rather to ensure that we do not get dragged in a war that has nothing to do with us. We also offer Algolis, or any other Ionian city, as neutral ground for talks between both sides to ensure the deescalation and peaceful resolution of the situation.

While one could say that Carentenia and Asylan are on opposing term, the allegations that a country violated the territorial waters of another is a serious charge. We would ask that Ionia be willing to produce evidence that that Carentania ships violated your sovereign waters.

We apologize as perhaps our announcement was not very clear on the matter. We never accused Carentania of violating our waters, we simply said a Carentanian force passed right next to them. We are closing our ports so as to not get dragged in a conflict not because we want to accuse any one party.

As vessels of the Carentanian navy never possessed the docking rights to any Ionian ports, we find this whole declaration to be nonsensical. Carentania has no intention to send ships into Ionian territorial waters unless the Ionian government initiates hostile actions against either Carentania or its allies.
