The Knesset has not held a session in 13 years,
following an attempt by MK's to legislate limits on the
King's power, acting against the Constitution of 1872.

King Ishmael II has decreed that he will reinstate the Knesset as the functioning legislative body of the Kingdom, following what he hopes to be 'widespread and fair elections'. The Knesset has not held a session in 13 years since it's attempt to legislate laws that would revise the 1872 Constitution, removing the King's power of royal prerogative. The King, in a hotly debated but not unexpected move, used the power of royal prerogative to eliminate the topic from discussion and, more controversially, dismiss the Knesset itself.

However, the King has since ruled, together with the High Courts of Justice (Bagatz) without democratic aid; a highly unpopular move that has seen much criticism of the Royal family and what is called 'ineffective governing' of the King, who has failed to negotiate acceptable compromises with various labor and populist movements.

The King staged a nation-wide referendum in late 2009 to gauge public interest in a renewed Knesset. Public support for the action was overwhelming, with a massive 92% majority in favor of a Knesset.

King Ishmael II has called upon political party leaders within the Argent Coast to meet with the Royal house in a special audience which will inform them of the dates which campaigns may begin, and when elections will take place. The Royal house will release details to the public shortly afterwards.

Actress and Model Zia Shalit seen by cameras at Royal audience.

Friday's in Zion are typically uneventful days followed by exciting nights spent at the club scene. But the excitement arrived early when actress and model Zia Shalit, age 34 and star of such films as Southern Sun and Enigma, arrived in the Citadel of Kings to meet with King Ishmael II along with other representatives of various parties. Zia Shalit's political experience is limited, however she is widely known for her roles in various movies. Zia Shalit recently finished a doctoral program in history, where she focused on the History and Failure of Communism.

Zia is expected be chosen as a MK for Efsharút, the principle Liberal Party of the Argent Coast. Miss Shalit did not presume to know the outcome of the possible elections, but called her candidacy an "example for all women that do not come from successful backgrounds in law schools." She went on to praise the King for allowing democracy to once again return to the nation, but noted that the people were "never once out of the King's thoughts."

Details of the election were released by the government today, which stated that a brief campaign period would be held by the parties on public channels, which would 'allow the uninformed to catch up on politics'. Additionally, websites have been maintained by non-partisan organizations which will allow voters to take simple quizzes and understand which issues they feel are the most important, and which party they feel best represents them. The voting date is scheduled for July 1; the day will be proclaimed a national holiday and mail-in ballots will be available, specifically for regions of the country in the South afflicted by this years winter, which is expected to be cold despite the nations largely oceanic climate.
