The Chamber of Commerce
Kingdom of Belmont| PARIS |Royaume de Belmont

The Chamber of Commerce was established by the Government of Belmont and Belmontien businessmen in 1968, and it has remained a public-private partnership since then, although it is organized within the Ministry of Finance and Commerce. Originally founded to increase exports and manage imports, it today acts as a trade promotion agency. It is run like a state-controlled consultancy firm and outsourcing partner independently of the government structure, working under the pretext to help Belmontien companies to achieve international growth and business development.

The Port of Marseilles

The Port of Marseilles is the largest port in Belmont. It covers an area of 13.5km/square and is one of the busiest ports in terms of cargo tonnage.

Established in 1926, by the Central Government, as a naval base for the Navy of Belmont. In 1939, the naval base was closed and the Central Government transferred ownership to the Provincial Government of Côte de Ciel (PGCdC). Hoping to raise additional funds for the province, the PGCdC started limited commercial operations from the former naval base. Throughout the Great War, Belmontien arms and ammunition were shipped to several countries from the port and the port's commercial value was truly realized. From 1943 to 1948, the Port of Marseilles was enlarged, additional container berths were added and the port, and its surrounding areas, were deepened to allow larger ships to enter the port. By the end of that project, the port was spread over 245 hectares, a threefold increase in size.

In 1967, the Central Government established the Marseilles Port Development Authority (MPDA) and charged it with the task of establishing a Free Trade Zone in the surrounding areas of the port and to expand the port and enlarge its facilities. By 1977, ten years later, the Port of Marseilles spanned over 340 hectares and the ports facilities were modernized to handle the newer cargo ships. Additional expansion was done during the 1990s and today, the port stands at 8.63km².

In 2003, under the government of Premier Plantard, 49.9% of the port was privatized. All of which was bought by Thasisse Holdings. In 2005, the government sold an additional 30.1% to Thasisse and became a minority shareholder. Since then, Thasisse has lobbied the government to expand the Free Trade Zone close to the port and the Government has made larger road and rail links to the port from across Belmont.

Marseilles Airport, a few kilometers away, also saw the construction of two additional terminals and four additional runways. The government has also given special status to Marseilles, making it the first duty free zone in Belmont. All these measures have been aimed at making Marseilles a better and more business friendly environment.

It is our pleasure to announce that, the MPDA has enlarged the Mar-SEZ and it is now open for foreign investment. The MPDA has invested several million Francs into the project and have widened the incentives list. Additionally, it is our duty to inform all that, Thasisse Holdings, the main owner of Marseilles Port has decided to sell 29.9% of their stake in the port and to float it for sale to a foreign company. The Government of Belmont and the MPDA have approved the plans of Thasisse Holdings BE and advise all potential bids to contact the Thasisse Holdings BE* and to CC the letter to MPDA.
