The Thaumantic Communal Order is proud to hold the Christmas Classic
with Participation from the Following Communes:

Nieveland
vs.
Engwahl

Pledged Parishes of Gutarike
vs.
Jydsken-Ostveg

Cantignia
vs.
Overseas-Communalists with Orderly Intentions

In Caitekurke, within the Revolutionary Commune of Nieveland
Squad Descriptions:
  • Cantignia: boasts a young team comprised of prospects, amateurs, and pros germane to the Federation of Westernesse's circuit. Players from this squad hope to create a special splash for hockey down-Cannie and highlight reels for high-paying western franchises.
  • Engwahl: carries players from a meager league that feeds north to Nieveland or elsewhere. This Engwahlian squad carries a newfound obligation to rise to the challenge of its greater commune has made as the leaders of the Thaumantic Order.
  • Gutarike: has drawn a hodge-podge crew of beleaguered players. Still, these are veterans on the ice and veterans from this prospective commune's recent war. The Gutnish squad has more to prove than any other joining the Christmas Classic.
  • Jydsken-Ostveg: presents masters of hockey magic that gold star fill franchises the world over. So united this squad has not lost to rivals in this tournament in decades.
  • Nieveland: asked for the following this Christmas: to end an Engwahlian's career, to make the Cantignians cry, and to restore the Revolutionary Commune's lost glory of hockey dominance from the 1980s.
  • Overseas-Communalists: are comprised of amateur players from abroad who have taken a strict oath to Communal Order & Christ despite disorder in their homelands.

Jerseys of the Communal Christmas Classic

National teams participating in this year's hockey event were randomly assigned Christmas themed team names as an alternate to nationalistic names, colors, and uniforms. These alternate uniforms have been put on sale online and proceeds beyond stocking price will go towards alms collected for rebuilding the Gutnish Communes following their war for unity.

*Descending through a dark snowy blizzard eventually a Christmas Town is shown with ice path streets with a man skating up*

Yeovil: "Oh, why hey there Communalists! Those whiz kids at Clover Animation have sent me, your Communal Commissar: Linc Yeovil, into the claymation world of yule tide yore! Heck, Christmas is almost here and I know that keeping those Communal Alms around the holidays is more important than ever! Skate along with me so we can share a well deserved measure of cheer around this blessed Thaumantic Order!"

*Crude animation of Yeovil Skating across a map towards the Northlaw Communes where he meets a young Jydsk Boy*

Ludvig: "Hi there Mister Commissar, welcome to the high evergreens of the Northlaw Communes! My name is Ludvig and I'm a hockey enthusiast like yourself!"

Yeovil: "Heck, I must be lost, I thought I was skating to Nieveland! But hey, here's a gift from Engwahl! And call me Linc, no one is special among the Order of Communes!"

Ludvig: "I simply can't, no I am so very sorry Linc, I know someone who deserves this gift more than I . . . Follow me to Gutarike!"

*Ludwig and Yeovil skate across a lake to the neighboring country*

Astrid: "Oh, friends from other Communes, I am so very sorry but I cannot accept a gift when I bear the greatest gift of all: this bible I hold with which I've learned your language Mister Yeovil. Some call it Engellexic, others the Lish of Eng, but I know that you call it the Engwahlian language."

Yeovil: "Communalists speak a heck of a lot of languages around the world. There are different dialects, and sometimes with these Cloverwebs I can't understand what my kids are typing to me! Look it there, that's a King Padraig Bible - translated from Pelasgian, to Tiburan, to Old Nievish, and finally into Engwahlian . . . but both the Tiburans and Pelasgians called our people Engellexic!"

Ludvig: "If she won't have that gift, maybe I should open it after all?"

Astrid: "My Bible was a gift from Nieveland, please let's agree to send this dear unopened present there!"

*The Trio return to the Thaumantic Islands where Gwen waits with puzzlement*

Gwen: "Peace be upon ye! Do we be needing directions to Caitekurke?

Astrid: "A gift from me, a gift from us, something from all of us Communal kids!"

Gwen: "I canno', no, why do you test me with these temptations? Come in for tea and we will plot where to drop this terrible box, for you will never trick me into opening a box from Engwahl!"

Yeovil: "You kids have it figured out, don't you? I need to get back to the real world now, but I'll be back next year, so long!"

Gwen: "Twill never be long enough, bless ye! . . . Now listen comrades, we have a mission from on high to put this gift in the hands of a communal kid who needs it more than any other this Christmas . . . I have a cousin down-Cannie who might know what to do!"

*The new trio take a boat down-Cannie, steering clear of sea dogs from Anglia and narwahls from Oltremare*

Clyde: "Oh Gwendolyn what trouble have you brought me now cousin? Are these kids even Thaumanticans?"

Gwen: "I vouch for them as Communalists, now honor your mark as my kin in clan dear cousin: I have a riddle for you! An Engwahlian's gift on Christmas, well, it's my gift to share now from Astrid who received it from Ludvig, and now I give it to you."

Clyde: "Say, why don't we all open it together and share the splendor? Y'all gather around now and take a pull.

*The children open the Engwahlian Box and find a pair mittens which Gwen takes, earmuffs which Astrid takes, a beanie which Ludvig takes, and finally a hockey puck which Clyde is left with.*

Clyde: "Y'all can have this too, we don't play hockey down-Cannie!"

Gwen: "Foolish cousin, we can run in shoes, or put wheels on our boots - never limit your feeble mind: hockey is for every Communalist from the Thaumantic Isles!"

Ludvig: "To the Northlaw Communes!"

Clyde: "And all the way down-Cannie today, let's play!"

Game 1, Christmas Eve Night

Outlanders from overseas nations comprised a spirited squad where no player on the Outlander team wore names or numbers and some wore spandex face covers and eye obscuring visors to protect their identity. Meanwhile, the Cantignians embraced their notoriety as the Gingerbread Men: posting on Clover Web before the game that they were "hockey's new G-Men". Young hotshots, named and unnamed, turned the 3rd period into a shooting gallery after a 1-1 stalemate for the entire second period. Ultimately the G-Men of Cantignia mustered a 3 goal medley to send the Outlander Snowflakes back to their overseas homelands.

Results from the tilt:

Outlander Snowflakes 4 - 6 Cantignia Gingerbread Men

Game 2, Christmas Afternoon

The Northlaw Evergreens did not disappoint in what turned into more of a clinic than a fair match. On this Christmas afternoon captain Peter Aarhaus, an all-star in the Federation's hockey league, recorded 2 of the Evergreen's total shutout of their geographic neighbors. Gutarike's Candycanes were hobbled by players missing after the war as well as injuries and political abstention from a purely Communalist competition.

Results from the tilt:

Northlaw Evergreens 3
- 0 Gutarike Candycanes

Game 3, Christmas Night

Alexei Welbrecht (Engwahl) and Trevor Carbourne (Nieveland) used the puck drop to throw down gloves and fight at center ice, setting off a series of skirmishes on and off ice. As if from medieval times the tradition of vegetable throwing occurred during gameplay with Carbourne, the Nievish captain, tripping over a cabbage head thrown by jeering Engwahlian fans. After the first goal was scored, late in the second period by the Nievish Reindeer, the Niomonnach began intentionally disengaging from the line of fights and penalties they had instigated earlier in the game. Nievish powerplays guaranteed one more goal and a near flawless victory undermined by a last minute goal from Engwahlian prospect Christian Banques.

Engwahl Mistletoe 1 - 2 Nieveland Reindeer
