President Malik Gevheri speaks out against the wars in Europe and Himyar
President Gevheri spoke out on many topics at the press conference held yesterday as required by law. He discussed an economic stimulus package to shoulder up the faltering economy, focused around providing funds for national businesses and corporations, loosening restrictions on the private sector's ability to operate and even going as far as offering a tax break to promote growth and halt the growing unemployment rate. However, he did make it clear that the military was to be left untouched in this new bill, which appeared to be geared towards calming the riots that broke out last week at Senator Bahir Kaan's suggestion that the defense budget be reduced.
However, the President shocked when he suddenly addressed the wars raging in Europe and Himyar, giving his most cutting and harsh speech yet on the subject. “The conflicts in Europe and Himyar are travesties in of themselves, spilling the blood of countless innocent men and women, be they civilian or soldier, and for foolish reasons and goals that only reveal the dictatorial aims of the monarchs, dictators, and all other enemies of freedom that have plagued our time. Democracy is at risk with this constant aggression shown by the nations involved and Liberty weeps to see her work destroyed so.
And she is not alone; children are forced to beg in the streets to have enough money to buy stale bread, parents work themselves to death on three jobs to try and make the bills in time, and more and more of our young people find themselves unable to find a job in a constricting market. They all weep because of the power that could have gone into growing economies, more jobs for our people and better futures for the next generation have instead gone into machines of war, implements of destruction, and into desperate policies and initiatives to try and limit the damage the warmongers in the West and South have done to all of us. We only wished to remain neutral and stay away from pointless and thoughtless conflicts, but every day our people suffer by the actions of others. We all suffer and there will come a day when we can no longer ignore it, and even those so driven to spill each others blood will be push to exhaustion by the cost, and it will be then that the bitter seeds they have sown will grow, only to be watered by their tears.”
So far, there has been little comment from the President's fellow Huzurs, while reaction in the Kuvvet Party show themselves to be fully in support. The Kuvvets have been campaigning for a harsher reaction to the conflicts, even suggesting an embargo to key countries to try and suffocate their trade in order to bring about an end to this conflict. The citizenry exploded with support for the President, crying “Long Live the Republic” and “Never Trust the West!”
Police had to be called to calm down some of the demonstrations in North-West Ahiret, but no conflicts were reported.
