The year was 1762, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau had recently published his book Principles of Political Right, from his home in Colfax, Lafayette. The ideas of the literature were simple, that a person gave up certain things in order to belong to society. That a sort of metaphorical 'social contract' existed, that gave citizens security, while allowing the government to supply that security. Well in Lafayette, people were growing sick of King Phillip II's policies. After the publishing of this book, they began to wonder if they could reject this 'society'. If they could provide for themselves what this corrupt regime promised to give.

It wasn't until 1765 however, that anyone acted on these ideas...

Colfax, Lafayette
December 1, 1765

Lord Marius Jacob puffed on his cigar as he sat in his study. There were two other men in the room. Their names were Albert Libertad, and Jean Grave. The three of them were all sitting around a large table, this table had a very detailed map of Lafayette laid out on it. The lighting in the room was dim, lit only by the fireplace. These three men were not visiting for social purposes, they had in mind very 'traitorous' thoughts.

"What do we have as far as weapons?" Lord Jacob asked, his eyes not leaving the fireplace.

"A little over 200 Charleville's sir. They can be handed out as soon as you give the word my Lord." Grave stated, nervously looking up at Lord Jacob. The weapons were stashed in one of Grave's warehouses, in the middle of town.

"What about men? How many?" Lord Jacob asked, looking at Libertad.

"A good 500 my Lord. They won't all be heavily armed I suppose. More than half of them are simple peasants, but there is a significant amount that are ex-military." Libertad spoke, not losing Lord Jacob's intimidating gaze.

"Well we will only arm the ones with training. No use wasting weapons on the stupid." Lord Jacob said, looking back into the fire, and dragging more of his cigar.
