Pelasgia
Established Nation
Nauplia, Caria
Megaron Pefkiotou was the Nauplia residence of the Pefkiotis Family, a long defunct Carian noble house, whose property had escheated to the Carian State. A megaron--a "town house" in Engell parlance, it served as the city residence of a noble family whose primary country residence or "stately home" (epavli in Carian) was far too distant from the capital to serve as a base for participation in the nation's political life. The Pefkiotes had been extinct for some 120 years, having previously served as treasurers of the House of Notaras, Caria's current royal dynasty, who had served as de facto hereditary heads of state for the de jure republican Caria since its independence some four centuries ago. The splendour of their wealth, however, was apparent for all to see: beautiful statues, elegant pillars, detailed frescoes, delicate furniture, and bountiful mirrors and chandeliers filled the interior of the palace that the Carian Foreign Ministry used as its official gesthouse, among other uses, in the Royal Capital.
It was there that King John I Notaras had chosen to host the Empress of @Justosia, Annabella I, finding no other place suited to a visiting royal, and one who had graced Caria with her presence for a purpose beneficial to the Carian Nation: the safeguarding of its constitutional institutions. Alas, apart from the welcoming formalities at the airport upon the Empress's arrival, the King had not had much chance to speak with her; the formalities of running a referendum campaign, overseeing the stabilization of the Western Polities, monitoring a brewing crisis in the neighbouring Vardar Republic, and coordinating the transition of state institutions to the new federal constitutions, had occupied far too much of the time of the current head of the House of Notaras. That, however, was about to change.
One of the Carian Foreign Ministry's officers, who occupied the building's lower floors to serve as liaisons with the guests, rushed to the maître de maison of the Justosian Monarch for the fifth time in less than an hour to verify that everything was in order; the other was annoyed, of course, but the Carian explained himself. "The King, you see, is en route. His Majesty's motorcade shall be here by the end of the hour. Everything must be in order, to the satisfaction of both your Sovereign, and mine!"
