NEWS LEVEL: RED (NAUPLIA) The Carian Ministry of Defence has announced that a border post between Caria and the Vardar Republic was assaulted by irregular assailants who crossed over from the Vardar border early this morning. Nine troopers of the Royal Carian Gendarmerie were injured and three were killed by assailants who identified themselves as belonging to the Catholic Defence Army of Western Caria, according to leaflets dropped in the locale. A budget deal has reportedly been reached between the Dos Palacios of the Executive Branch & the Senado leadership. §150,000,000,000 for welfare, social programs, administration costs, infrastructure, education, etc. §100,000,000,000 for military, law enforcement, border security, etc. §50,000,000,000 for paying down of foreign debts, & miscellaneous. This is historic as it's by far the most an administration has ever spent on welfare & the like. Newly elected Social Democrat Canciller Manuel Albares is clearly to credit for some, to blame for others. This is roughly 3 times what Nationalist administrations of recent past have spent on these domestic programs. Prioritizing always the military & security services. The Emperatriz & Canciller appear to have gotten the better of the negotiations. Though it's being said from a close source to him that Canciller Albares wanted the first figure even higher but Senado Orador Castro wasn't having it. The exact logistics of the deal, & concessions or deals reached to make it so are currently being withheld.

Lone Independent votes in the affirmative. Canciller Albares (NSDU) attends vote. Gets into heated 'debate' with Senado Orador Castro (NCRA). Canciller reportedly angry Castro couldn't keep his conference together. Castro appeared to shrug off his complaints. Per the 1823 constitution, the Emperatriz will have to make her way to the senado asap to cast tie breaker vote everyone knows will be for. This might be why, upon seeing the final vote tally, Castro was so non chalant. The senado is currently 55 Nationalists. 49 Social Democrats. 1 Independent.

Canciller Manuel Albares (NSDU) has formally petitioned the Imperial Senado to hold a vote, albeit a symbolic one, to call on the Emperatriz to firstly, expand the Capital Court, highest court in the empire, to 9 seats. Resolution he's written will also call on her to appoint 2 new Social Democrat High Judges. This scenario would see a 5-4 Nationalist majority from the current 5-2 majority. This would virtually spilt the court as one of the current Nationalist High Judges is a swing vote sometimes as a relative moderate. Even the petition itself is symbolic as Senado Orador Tomas Castro (NCRA-Avalon) will see the resolution defeated in the vote to even bring it to the floor. The Emperatriz herself is also widely assumed to refuse to ascend it should it reach her desk.
