Recognition, consciousness, revolution.

After a brief ice age (or something), The Autonomous Communes of New Paristan once again re-emerges onto the world stage.

OOC: Don't count on anything long-term or super-involved - my attention span for this sort of thing anymore is ...SQUIRREL. Anyway.

IC:

Acting Chief Delegate Edgar Pointcaret, elected by consensus at the First National General Assembly for a one-year term as the representative of New Paristan to the world, explained the country's new, decentralized, Autonomist economy.

"While I represent New Paristan to the world, any actions I take have to be first decided on and ratified by a series of General Assemblies made up of citizens and workers who are free to participate or not to participate. Decisions are debated and voted on at municipal, provincial, and regional levels, with an emphasis on consensus decision making. I have authority to act unilaterally only in times of national crisis. I can suggest actions, but my ideas are put into the same "stack" of ideas as anyone else's, and are voted up or down as appropriate. By transitioning to the General Assembly system, we have democratized the entire economy and political system, abolishing the oppressive fiction of "representative democracy" along with the economic tyranny of the "free market." No political parties, no masters, no chains. We are truly free and truly equal. I may not be re-elected - in fact, no candidate actually "runs" for the office. It is a voluntary position achieved only with the consent of the National General Assembly."

This channel will broadcast news from the Autonomous Communes, but should by no means be considered New Paristan's "official" news service. No such thing exists.

Economic News:

The Montmartre Regional Steel and Metalworks Cooperative reports record production of high-tech steel and carbon nanofibers for the nation's planned space elevator project. Foreperson Michelle Garbaud expressed confidence in the project's success. "We're definitely getting there," she said, beaming.

In other news, the West Cannes Autoworks Cooperative reports that production of the new 5-series sedan is coming along nicely. "It's a beautiful car, and I'm sure it'll win some international awards," said Executive Pro-Tem Raoul Thierry. "You know, when we Paristanis work together on something like this, and really take pride in it, we can really do it well."

The Yvelines Regional General Assembly voted to send a proposal to the National General Assembly to increase funding for public transit in the Yvelines region. NGA member Marc Rennes expressed confidence the measure would pass consensus. "Public transit is important, and we should definitely fund it properly." Said ACD Pointcaret, "I absolutely support this, and will express that view at the next NGA meeting on Monday."
