Deep Monkton, Monkecia-- Consul Antonius Ffyllos has declared that Monkecia will once again rejoin democratic Europe and will hold full national and local elections on the 20th of February 1954. Ffyllos said that all public offices will be open to election, including the seats of the Consul, Senate, Local Councils and city Tribuneships. Ffyllos said,

"We will rejoin our democratic, human rights-loving friends in Europe. We will banish the dark days of dictatorship, maniac capitalist and division to our history. Free and fair elections will be held and all aspects of international convention on elections will be followed."

A spokesperson for the Election Commission, headed by Consul Ffyllos himself, confirmed that officials that held seats in the former criminal regime would not be entitled to stand for election.

Meanwhile, across the country, large rallies in support of Ffyllos' Socialist Republican Party are planned ahead of the unveiling of the National Strategy for Peace and Prosperity over the weekend. The seven-point manifesto will be enacted into Monkecia's Constitution in time for the senate elections on the 20th.

Consul Ffyllos removed nine of eleven Supreme Court judges pending new appointments tomorrow. Earlier today, the 11 men were arrested for crimes against humanity by the Human Rights Commission.

I thank the kind minister of state, Kristin Ragnhild Haavi, of the democracy-loving Ostveg for his kind words which endorse our processes. I would like to invite him, on behalf of the Republik, to send election observers and monitors to validate our election. Indeed, such an offer it open to all the Republik's peace and freedom-loving friends and neighbours.

Let me be clear: I can not promise an election free of trouble, or even a perfectly free election altogether. In anyone's estimates, a vote in which 95% of the people are able to freely vote unhindered will be some miracle in our war-torn and divided country. Indeed, my personal advisers warned against holding a poll so soon. However, I am determined to make a bold statement and run the elections as soon as possible. Therefore, any assistance, guidance or re-assurance you or your allies may be able to give would be gratefully and eternally welcomed by the Republik and her people.

Slaughter At Flynt

Hemztl, Flynt, Monkecia--Over 250 people were killed this morning as a breakaway army unit assaulted a tribal village. Consul Ffyllos has launched a full investigation and is travelling to the area, which is approximately 20 miles inland from Flynt, and has described the event as a "racist, regressive attack on the peace and stability of Monkecia". Although the area has been closed off, TruthQuest has managed to speak to survivors of the attack who described how a Free Army company entered the village and began their slaughter.

"Every boy over twelve was killed," one witness said. "All the women were rounded up and some of them were attacked. The men were all wearing the red armbands. I thought the free army were here to protect us. Did the government order this? What have we done?"

It is known that there are strong ethnic divisions between Monkecia's three main tribes. Ffyllos has been very close to the dominant tribe, the Moonztans, and much of the recent socialist victories have been attributed to Moonztan bravery. However, many ancient grudges, bitterness and other disputes run between this tribal grouping and the other two which are much less prominent. TruthQuest has learnt that the village, a working-class gold mining village which has been described as "extremely poor", is predominantly ethnically Xoxozan, and the army unit being blamed is known to be ethnically Moonztan.

A statement was earlier issued by the warrior-priestess Itotia Ixchel, known as princess Jessica of Monkecia.

"This looks like a terrible attack and there is little information. I urge people not to jump to assumptions whatsoever. Consul Ffyllos will ensure a full investigation and will work to ensure the safety of survivors and victims of this terrible and evil event. I urge all my fellow Monkecian comrades not to begin any revenge attacks and to seek justice only through the courts."

Elections Underway "Smoothly"

Monkecia-- CONSUL Ffyllos this morning at six o'clock led the Monkecian people in the historic free election in the history of the country. Casting his vote into a clear ballot box, Ffyllos happily showed the reporters and cameras the large X he placed against his name, and smiled as he urged all Monkecians to vote today.

"Today we claim our democratic right, today we rejoin the democratic and peace loving community of Europe."

Ffyllos has dismissed allegations of misconduct of his election officials by what has become the unofficial opposition alliance of parties. Indeed, Ffyllos' election campaign has been dogged by rumours and allegations of fraud. Ffyllos spoke about this last night on the eve of the elections.

"Look, we've been a war zone for almost seven years. If the vote is 70% free it will be a miracle. I believe we're closer to 95% free. What the capitalist and war-mongering parties allege is impossible. There is no large scale fraud by my party or officials to steal the election. It is not in my nature."

TruthQuest has uncovered evidence of small-scall corrupt activities. In one voting ward, over 13,000 people have been registered to vote despite the ward officially having 5,600 residents. In another ward, children as young as 11 have been registered to vote, despite the voting age being set to 14 for boys and 17 for girls. However, TruthQuest's reporters have independently concluded that such actions have been unintentional, non-malicious and affect less than 2% of all votes predicted to be cast.

ANTONIUS FFYLLOS finally sworn in

Deep Monkton, Monkecia-- Antonius Ffyllos has been sworn in to office as the country's first democratically elected Consul-Protector.

In a plain ceremony in the newly re-named Red Square, crowds of thousands of Monkecians from all walks of life saw Ffyllos being sworn in. At 1200 midday, he placed his hand upon a bible and swore to protect the Monkecian people and their human rights. Following his oath, Ffyllos received an ancient crown of gold from the gathered Moonztcoctl priests and priestesses, proclaiming him to be the Red King of their religion.

Ffyllos then gave a speech to the adoring crowds. When he finished, he was joined on stage by his wife, Tlaneztli, and three daughters, twins Bethany and Elizabeth, and younger daughter Roxxanne. The family then descended into the crowds where they shook hands with loyal socialist supporters.

Later, the high priestess of Monkecia and the Archbishop of Deep Monkton hosted a joint banquet in the Consul's honour. Similar parties were organised throughout the country and much joy was had by the country.
